Tories look to scheduling tactics to avoid election

Such a move would leave opposition parties with two options: trigger a rare midsummer election with a national vote on

July 27 at the earliest, or keep the government alive until later this year.

The tactic is reminiscent of one used by the Liberal government in 2005, when it feared being defeated at the height of the sponsorship scandal and pushed opposition days to the end of the calendar.

Think this is what the Tories used to criticize the Liberals for.

So now the Liberals admit they DO intend to trigger another election right away no matter what? They really need to get their stories straight.

Think what was said in this article is that the Liberals are keeping their options open. I suspect that Harper himself is doing the same thing and rather be defeated in the House on a vote, he might call an election.

The Liberals get so brave after a few good polls. The reality is that they have little to gain other than in Quebec and a handful of seats in Ontario (if Dhalla hasn't pushed away the immigrant vote there yet...).

If Iggy things he has support in the West, he can think again. He is very delusional to waste Canadian's time with an election at this point. Same result... AGAIN.

The Liberals will grow support in every part of the country (except possibly N + L, but they may keep what they have). I can almost guarantee that their share of the vote will increase in every province in the next election.

However, if Harper calls an election now, it is brilliant, simply brilliant!

Harper is playing games and the last time that happened it spawned a coalition of the willing. At this point in time Conservative fortunes are beginning to wane and the Liberal star has begun to rise. The NDP and the Bloc are hurting for support, but the Bloc still has no real fear of holding their own in Quebec. Its the PM's government to lose, and the oppositions to win. The timing sucks, but that is life The reality is that if Harper calls an election, he will be violating his own election date scam and by forcing the opposition into a corner with a minority government the same thing would be achieved. Either way it is lose-lose for Steve.

Only a fool would try to govern like a majority under the current partisan composition of the House of Commons.
