Smallc Posted May 3, 2009 Report Posted May 3, 2009 One of the CBC's most eminent journalists, Don Newman, who currently hosts the daily Newsworld program Politics, has "opted for the voluntary retirement incentive."In a message to CBC News, Newman said Sunday that "I will be doing Politics until the end of the season in June." He did not divulge any more details and said that he could not make any more comment on the matter. CBC spokesperson Jeff Keay confirmed the voluntary retirement but could not say how Newman's decision might affect the program. Newman, whose career spans 40 years, opened CTV's Washington bureau in 1972, covering the Watergate scandal. In 1976, he joined the CBC's team in the U.S. capital before becoming the CBC's senior western correspondent based in Edmonton. In 1981, he arrived at the CBC's parliamentary bureau and has stayed there since. CBC's Don Newman to retire I'll miss you Don. Quote
jdobbin Posted May 3, 2009 Report Posted May 3, 2009 I'll miss you Don. Maybe the Liberals will make him a senator. Quote
Smallc Posted May 3, 2009 Author Report Posted May 3, 2009 (edited) Maybe the Liberals will make him a senator. Lol, well he would make a good senator. I don't think he'd sit as a partisan though. Edited May 3, 2009 by Smallc Quote
Smallc Posted May 3, 2009 Author Report Posted May 3, 2009 Seriously though, if Politics stays on the air, no one will watch it unless they find someone (I can't think of anyone on the current team that would do as good of a job). I guess I'll have to watch Power Play....at least Tom Clark is better than Mike Duffy was. Quote

Tom Clark is also trying too and I think the Tories thought they would have a friend in Clark like they did Duffy but they are finding out different. I like it when he got into an argument with ? Kent , Art Kent older brother. Tom was asking question about the Canadian that is in prison in Mexico and Kent ran down the journalism show that told the story and Tom then asked him what wasn't true about the show and the story of this Canadian? I thought Kent would either walk off or hit Tom!! Quote
Muddy Posted May 6, 2009 Report Posted May 6, 2009 Welcome to the broaaaad cast! Is to be no longer. I like Tom Clark better anyway. He is more neutral than Newman and he can move his upper lip when he talks unlike Newman. Quote
Smallc Posted May 6, 2009 Author Report Posted May 6, 2009 He is more neutral than Newman and he can move his upper lip when he talks unlike Newman. pffft, Newman is probably the most respected journalist on Parliament Hill. He remains as neutral as he possibly can....he did though have a lot of trouble during the coalition crisis when the Conservatives wouldn't stop lying about the Constitution and the workings of parliament. Smallc Posted June 20, 2009 Author Report Posted June 20, 2009 Goodbye Don....or perhaps, see you soon. Quote
Topaz Posted June 21, 2009 Report Posted June 21, 2009 Did anyone see his last show? He's not a bad singer! Seems Don like to sing at any time, even between commericals. This part was so funny and it was a side we at home don't get to see about him. Quote
Smallc Posted June 21, 2009 Author Report Posted June 21, 2009 Yeah, I saw it. It was quite good. Canadians have lost a daily presence with a great deal of knowledge and balance. I'm glad he's not leaving the stage completely, but it's sad that he won't be there anymore. Quote
