Yah sounds almost like Bush's LABOUR Secretary eh? Only difference is she was nominated for LABOUR Secretary! Man the more you talk about how bad Obama is the more you remind us BUSH always has a worse story. LOL!

It is legal to defer and becuase he didn't know he had to pay those taxes form 9 years ago until last year I think one can forgive him. He not only paid them but the interest too giving the government more money. All legal and on the up and up.

Uhhh...the interest is required by law..as is the penalty. He didn't do the "government" any favor, just his ass.

Nope he paid the Taxes on self employment which even his accounted missed after the Obama Team found the error. Nothing wrong with that I don't see why Republicans are making a big deal about it. It happens to a lot of Americans.

Have you seen the tax returns? Non payment of taxes owed involves an interest charge and penalty. If a Republican nominee had been so poorly vetted, we can bet there would be much more of a fuss.

No there wouldn't be because the Obama team are the ones who found the Tax problem which is a common problem in the states. It's not like he didn't pay his regular taxes; where he tripped up is with the added-in self-employment tax, which, is triggered because of a quirk in the way the IMF reports income for its overseas employees. I'm sure the guy has a tax accountant who handles his tax returns, and apparently this got by the the tax accountant as well. Who cares about this? No one Republicans are making much to do about nothing and as we saw in Tennessee today need to take their heads out of their asses or they are going to keep getting it handed to them.

He paid his taxes the day he was chosen as Treasury Secretary, coincidence? Who knows how long he would have gone otherwise. I bet you his undocumented house keeper couldn't defer taxes for 6 years.

His house worker was documented and her visa ran out yet she worked for him for three months after that. She did go on to get a green card and no one has pursued it. Keep putting spin on it. The guy made some mistakes a lot of people do. I have seen documentation run out on people in the states and after they are employed it is hard to find out. It wasn't 6 years it was a year after he found out most tax lawyers are saying this is a common mistake. Again the right needs to focus on real stuff or the Tennessee election of speaker of the house is going to keep happening to them.

Common problem in the "states"? Yea, and that's why the IRS chases down tax evasion. It is also common in the "states" to pay a penalty or go to prison.

So what? Your just an apologist for a poorly vetted Obama nominee.

Who cares about this? No one Republicans are making much to do about nothing and as we saw in Tennessee today need to take their heads out of their asses or they are going to keep getting it handed to them.

Americans care about this...you know...in the "states".

Ummm wait he went to prison? No wait he didn't becuase he made a mistake many people do and the IRS let him amend his tax return. The IRS doesn't let you amend your tax return if you are willfully trying to avoid paying taxes you are right they chase you down and go to prison thanks for showing me the error what I wrote. No wait you didn't. Obama's team was the ones who found so your spin that he was no vetted is just wrong. No Americans care about this you know why becuase it isn't a big deal even some Republicans like the Utah Sen. Orrin Hatch say it isn't a big deal. No one cares accept extreme partisans. He paid half of it when it brought to his attention and he paid the other half last week. Even the rich are hard pressed to find 34 000 dollars right out of the pocket right away. You may live in the states but you are clearly out of touch with it.

America doesn't need a Treasury Secretary who makes "common mistakes."

I think what you mean is America doesn't need a Treasury Secretary who has been the head of the largest Federal Reserve Bank for 6 years. Wasn't it the right wing that keep yelling about on the Job training during the campaign? So Obama picks someone who is not a cause of the problem (let me be clear Paulsons call for de regulation was the cause of the problem) but someone with experience and now you don't like? Why becuase he paid his taxes after the IRS told him too? Awesome just awesome keep it up.

I don't think you understand Shady's observation.....were it not for the nomination vetting process, he may never had paid the back taxes. Most Americans...in the "states"....do not have this luxury.

No wait you didn't. Obama's team was the ones who found so your spin that he was no vetted is just wrong.

Then let him take his lumps, just like any other bozo who is nominated by an incoming administration. This is nothing new, and is part of the transition entertainment....in the "states".

I have much more than $34,000 in cash readily available right now. It's no big deal....in the "states".

Yah ok he would never have paid them back? I might believe that if he didn't pay 19 000 of it back as soon as the IRS contacted him. He paid the other 15 000 or so back last week big deal he showed he was willing to pay it back by doing so. You are trying to spin the story with out the facts which is fine but no one cares not even the moderate or semi moderate Senate Republicans. He is going to get the Nod and no one is going to remember this unless he fails at his job.

He failed his test miserably. He wants to be the head of the American treasury, but is either ignorant or incompetent when it comes to basic tax laws, and one's responsibility to them. The upcoming irony is delicious. A man who will succeed Paulson, who will be spending hundreds of billions of tax payer dollars on so-called stimulus, didn't pay his taxes for a period of 6 years. Hope n change!

(let me be clear Paulsons call for de regulation was the cause of the problem)

Which so-called de-regulation are you referring to? Which former regulations were de-regulated?

Willing? Who are you kidding? Self employment income is one of the most abused tax frauds in the "states".

He got caught....so he has to pay whether he wants to or not.

LOL, you're so right. I love his assessment of "willing." Yes, he willingly paid back his taxes in which by law he's required to do, or face jail time. He chose not to go to jail, so apparently that's tantamount to willing.

Exactly....it's insanely funny and delicious as you say....Treasury Secretary???? Too frickin' much!

Nice to see Mr. Obama get his baptism just like every other president.....he ain't so smart after all.

"If it wasn't for the nomination processes he may have never paid them back"-B/C2004 says ignoring the fact he paid most of them back as soon as the problem was brought to his attention. You clearly don't know anything about this and have not seen or even read up on his tax case. With out the facts are willing to condemn the man more so then even Senate Republicans who are going to vote for his nomination are. Don't worry it will be your boys putting him there and rightfully so.

"Utah Republican Sen. Orrin G. Hatch calls his tax problems "a mistake that a human being can make," and Kansas Republican Pat Roberts says he'll probably vote to confirm Geithner." The only thing holding this is the partisan Republicans that everyone in America is tired of. Keep this in the News Please Please Please I can not wait for 2010. We will have 2 years of Progressive policies then.

But in 2009, this tax cheating bozo is going to jump through some hoops.....I can't wait for the C-SPAN tapes.

Don't you remember Zoe Baird? .....in the "states"? LOL!

I am not whining I am however not trying to nail someone to the cross for making a mistake many people who work for international organizations and foreign embassies often make. This is going to get spun in the Republicans face you wait and see.
