Ontario Loyalist Posted December 21, 2008 Report Posted December 21, 2008 Do it. At this point, who cares anymore.Heck, with a name like Gerstein, you may think you'll get more urban Jewish votes than you'll lose to some guy named Ignatieff. Interestingly, this guy's the "top Tory [sic] fundraiser" and your suggesting that this guy get the nod to gain support from the "urban Jewish" (as opposed to all those "rural" Jews?!?!?!)... The Jewish community in Canada is relatively small, smaller than the Muslim community, the Chinese community, Francophones, Indians, and, for that matter, German-Canadians. Why should Harper be so concerned about the Jewish community? I wonder... Quote Some of us on here appreciate a view OTHER than the standard conservative crap. Keep up the good work and heck, they have not banned me yet so you are safe Cheers! Drea

The Jewish community in Canada is relatively small, smaller than the Muslim community, the Chinese community, Francophones, Indians, and, for that matter, German-Canadians. Why should Harper be so concerned about the Jewish community? I wonder...My OP was an imaginary note to Harper. Given his tin ear in Quebec in the past federal election, I reckoned that he might be just as off-key when it comes to the "Jewish vote". Who cares. In this modern political world, having a mainstream "Internet bagman" in the Senate is wiser than having some hack political "strategist" such as Keith Davey or Warren Kinsella. Harper has guaranteed the viability of the Conservatives (or rather, the Tories) into the future. I suspect that the Liberals now regret that they didn't name someone like Gerstein to the Senate when they had the chance. Instead, they named old party hacks. ---- Harper was smart to do this in omnibus fashion. I think a few days after New Year's might have been better timing. Unless something dramatic happens soon to occupy the news cycle, this Senate story might be the political topic of conversation around the Christmas turkey. I need more background...Liar. Morris, you don't need background to do it. Edited December 23, 2008 by August1991 Quote

Harper has guaranteed the viability of the Conservatives (or rather, the Tories) into the future. I suspect that the Liberals now regret that they didn't name someone like Gerstein to the Senate when they had the chance. Instead, they named old party hacks. Davey was a recruiter and organizer. He's the guy who found the money people, the policy people, the future candidates. The Liberals have named lots of bagmen the Senate. Many of these people were quite successful raising money for Rae or Ignatieff but sat on their wallets for Dion and the party run by him. I expect that Ignatieff will rely on Ian Davey to find the next generation of rainmen and women. Harper was smart to do this in omnibus fashion. I think a few days after New Year's might have been better timing. Unless something dramatic happens soon to occupy the news cycle, this Senate story might be the political topic of conversation around the Christmas turkey. Any time you name a guy like Duffy to the Senate, people will think turkey. Quote

At this point, who cares anymore.Heck, with a name like Gerstein, you may think you'll get more urban Jewish votes than you'll lose to some guy named Ignatieff. Tu as un véritable problème. What has a Jewish vote to do with anything?! Irving Gerstein is a perfect man to lead his party in Canada. As a US/Swiss citizen totally against Mr. Bush and his policy, I still stand for what Conservatism used to be: Fiscal reponsability, dude. US Republicans did no more have this mantra over the past 8 years, too bad. Senator Irving Gerstein is ertainly a man who respects true conservative values with a social aspect. Cheers form across the border and great admirer of Canada. Paul R. Sutter Quote
