Mr.Canada Posted December 16, 2008 Report Posted December 16, 2008 (edited) Has anyone here gone to see amateur plays at community theaters or semi pro theaters? My wife has an interest in it and was wondering if it's good. I'm not expecting glossy productions but is the production decent? I'm not a play guy but I'll go and support it and hope to enjoy it. This has nothing to do with politics or partisanship. All advice or experiences of other posters is welcome, please. August1991 Posted December 23, 2008 Report Posted December 23, 2008 (edited) Has anyone here gone to see amateur plays at community theaters or semi pro theaters?I have often, in Montreal and in small town English Canada, Quebec and abroad. In general, I suggest going to see a modern standard (Coward, Feydeau, Christie). I once saw absolute amateurs do Wilde - "The Importance of Being Ernest" - and the basic plot survived it all. Moreover, nothing beats live theatre for raw drama. ---- I still prefer cinema to theatre and both to still pictures/paintings. If Shakespeare were alive today, he would be writing in Hollywood and Rembrandt would be a director of photography. Edited December 23, 2008 by August1991 Quote
