Mr.Canada Posted December 15, 2008 Report Posted December 15, 2008 Saw this elsewhere and thought it might be fun as we just keep rehashing the same subjects lately. So I pose the question in the title. Who should Harper appoint as the next GG? Quote "You are scum for insinuating that isn't the case you snake." -William Ashley Canadian Immigration Reform Blog
Smallc Posted December 15, 2008 Report Posted December 15, 2008 Well, he's stuck with this one until the middle of 2010, so we don't even know if he'll be the Prime Minister by the time a new one is to be picked. Quote
jdobbin Posted December 15, 2008 Report Posted December 15, 2008 Saw this elsewhere and thought it might be fun as we just keep rehashing the same subjects lately. Once he fires Jean in January, he can appoint someone reliable like Brian Mulroney. Quote
Mr.Canada Posted December 15, 2008 Author Report Posted December 15, 2008 Ugghh, c'mon guys. Can't you guys just answer this reasonably....I want to know who you guys think would make a good one. I don't know if the Queen would follow his advice so readily when it came to firing the Governor General simply because she didn't agree with his advice. Quote
jdobbin Posted December 15, 2008 Report Posted December 15, 2008 I don't know if the Queen would follow his advice so readily when it came to firing the Governor General simply because she didn't agree with his advice. I guess he could fire the Queen. Quote

If you want a serious answer, I would look to appoint Ray Henault if you get him to come out of retirement. Quote
punked Posted December 15, 2008 Report Posted December 15, 2008 MIKE DUFFY!!!!! Wait Harper is making him a Senator I forgot. Quote

Smallc Posted December 15, 2008 Report Posted December 15, 2008 (edited) I don't acre who they appoint, but I think they should bring back the court dress...only kidding. Edited December 15, 2008 by Smallc Quote
jdobbin Posted December 15, 2008 Report Posted December 15, 2008 Gen. Rick Hillier If you want a partisan Conservative, yes. If you want a person of skill and far wider respect around the world, it is Ray Henault. That would get the attention of many of our allies. Quote

Argus Posted December 15, 2008 Report Posted December 15, 2008 Former general Lewis Mackenzie has invariably struck me as extremely intelligent and honest. M.Dancer Posted December 15, 2008 Report Posted December 15, 2008 I would like to nominate either August1991 or Kimmy. In the case of a tie, probably Kimmy because I suspect she's better looking. Quote RIGHT of SOME, LEFT of OTHERS If it is a choice between them and us, I choose us
jdobbin Posted December 15, 2008 Report Posted December 15, 2008 (edited) Oh there's an idea. A guy who, when faced with terrible danger and impending catastrophe - made a stern protest, and then did nothing. You obviously don't like the guy but he appears to command a lot more respect from both inside and outside the military that you credit to him. Edited December 15, 2008 by jdobbin Quote
jdobbin Posted December 15, 2008 Report Posted December 15, 2008 (edited) Former general Lewis Mackenzie has invariably struck me as extremely intelligent and honest. Once again, if you want to appoint a card carrying Conservative this would be the way to go. If you are looking for someone non-military and with a sound understanding of the the laws and Constitution of the country and respected by the two major parties, you could look to point Marshall Rothstein to the job. Smallc Posted December 15, 2008 Report Posted December 15, 2008 Does anyone have the telephone directory of the CBC? On that note, Don Newman....but I think he gets paid more at his current job. Quote
Mr.Canada Posted December 15, 2008 Author Report Posted December 15, 2008 (edited) The person need not be a conservative just a good representative who is sharp and can carry themselves properly while representing Canada and her Majesty. I'd rather not see another CBC person but someone who loves Canada and perhaps flies under the radar but who is smart and quick. Imo, the GG appointment has become a pageant and it shouldn't be. It's a dignified post and te person chosen should have decency, integrity and be well respected by all sides.
