I do have a company but they Ain't going to hire me when the polish welder comes in and works for $8/hour and I charge $85/hour or like Exon since they bought out Syncrude .....

Exxon didn't buy out Syncrude...I don't think they even own any sycrude directly....Imperial owns 25% and Exxon own 69% of Imperial. Further, they have had this position for years. On top of that, I doubt they are payng a polish welder $8 and hour when the same welder can command a price 6 times that. So it must be someting else....mabe your welding sucks?

A group of 30 Polish welders who say they were brought to work in Canada under false pretenses are suing an energy services company, Lakeland College and three individuals for more than $5.5 million.

The lawsuit, filed in Edmonton's Court of Queen's Bench on Monday, makes two main claims:

• That the men believed they were being hired by Kihew Energy Services Ltd. to work in Alberta as full-time welders, not full-time students as their visas said.

• And that once here, they received inadequate pay for their work, earning $10 to $12 an hour from Kihew while four companies contracted with Kihew paid up to $28 an hour for their services.

You obviously know nothing! take it from a man who works the oilsands and sees this every day, I was also at CNRL and seen the union job steward get fired when he brought up the unsafe work conditions, a week later 2 chinese workers were killed we tried to warn them but they don't care about human life when it comes to cheap labor. For the rrecord I head up to Syncrude monday again I think I know a bit more than you do their is more to the investments and facilility's beyond the refinery's or upgraders where do you think Imperial or Shell or any of them get the bitumen from they have vested interest in the mines.

I know enough that Exxon hasn't bought out Syncrude, that the new boss is former exxon management and that you are either talking through your hat or you don't know what you are talking about.

And I suspect you are a lousy welder.

He is talking out of his hat, every person from my town that has went to work on the oil patch has money to burn and drives lifted up trucks. How a person can't find work out there is defying logic.

They're bringing foreign workers because they can't find enough workers.

Never said I am not going with out work what I said at least under the Liberals I had a job. What is happening locals get laid off and temp immigrant stay on jobs because of the work visa. My opinion ship em home, the fact I can get another job in less than 2 hours is besides the point, point is why am I being laid off?

As for the bad welder comment I challenge anyone to a skills test I have not had a repair in 10 years I weld pressure exotic metals not many can do, only a handfull of us and that is why I get paid the big bucks if I don't make over a million a year its a bad year. with my riggs I bet my company grossed more last year than any of you will in your lifetime. I challenge anyone, even get your friends or a immigrant lets do a Hastelloy competition, I am one of the best and I know it, do you know anyone else they will call and pay $40,000 for one joint in emergency besides me I think not!

I and Hydraboss will call bullshit. For someone complaining so bad about passing a piss test, worrying about job security, praising at the alter of unions, sounds like a worker bee. Now you own a company and gross a million bucks a year. Something stinks... If I'm grossing over a million bucks a year, which I am, the last thing I'm worried about is a damn piss test. Your profile is full of inconsistencies and it's come to bite you in the ass. If your job is in such high demand and they are willing to pay you so much, they won't subject the owner of a company to a piss test. It's not just welders that are getting undercut, geologists are getting undercut as well. We live in a global market and labour is a commodity, by idiot unions and firms gouging companies for wages, they are forced to look oversees, you guys screwed yourselves. That being said, I know 25 year old kids that are consulting out there with only a grade 12 education, lots of work still out there and room for advancement if you play the game.

Swear to god and know what I am strong union, untill the piss test thing 3 years ago I did not contract for myself, but as my own contractor I don't piss and if the client requires it I pay my own 3rd party to pass me and all my employees I am willing to bet 90% of the best welders smoke pot and i really don't care.

Don;'t get me wrong piss testing made me allot of coin I stole the best of what 488 had and they work for me now.
