However Argus is 100% correct. It's the unions job to push for forever higher benefit packages and the establishments job to shoot low. Imho the establishments give in way too easily and these two wage groups are way too high.

I would agree on both counts. But when a private sector worker goes in for a raise and is turned down , what happens? He goes back to work. On the other hand, the union guy shuts the company down.

City workers and the auto makers are two hard jobs that has a lot of public safety involved so they should be paid for it.

A journeyman electrician or plumber who works construction will make $32-35/ per hour and these two groups should be in line with that imo. As it is now they both make upwards of $10 in excess of that figure that I stated.

I cannot agree.

The auto worker assembles a car, and it is tested by a certified (non unionized) mechanic before it hits the road.

A garbage man throws trash in a truck, well not in TO, he has a machine that picks i up and dumps it for him.

So, where is the danger? Tripping over garbage is number 4,739 on the list of dangerous things in society, just one ahead of uncollected Easter Eggs.

A plumber and electrician can be there very nature screw you up with their mistakes. Of course the job is signed off, but not for the most part.

Think of ...skill...schooling. Which ones of the four have any?

Ok, I'll break it down further. If you belong to any union and go to the first union meeting called an orientation. The union explains it like this...if you take 1 pencil, you can break it easily, if you take 10 pencils in one hand you can break it but it's harder to break. Now, if you take 100 pencils in your hands and try to break them all you cannot do it. That, in essence is what a union is all about in a nutshell. That's the classic explanation of how a union works. We use also use this when organizing in a new workplace looking for pay and benefit equity.

In order to become a plumber and/or electrician requires a great deal of schooling in fact. Apprentices require about 32 weeks of schooling depending on the structure however these are trades and in being trades need to be balanced by on the job training which is the nature of trade work. Any journeyman being payed their worth works jobs with proper gigs with all permits and safety inspections.

I cannot speak on the nature of waste management other than to say that it's a job that many do not want to do. In saying that there are many other jobs than just garbage collection. People need to repair the trucks, people need to keep the lights on and pipes from bursting which equals licensed trades which costs money.
