maplesyrup Posted March 10, 2004 Report Posted March 10, 2004 My goodness, what in the world is going on here? Canadians must be getting tired of politics, or at least the people involved in politics in Canada. No wonder we have such low voter turnout in elections. Postpone Tory vote, Stronach camp urgesParty's membership lists in chaos, campaign director warns The Conservative party should postpone its leadership vote, scheduled for a week from Saturday, because of widespread chaos in the voters' list, the Belinda Stronach campaign said today. The leadership camps of front-runner Stephen Harper, Stronach and Tony Clement have all complained about the membership list, which was formally closed to new voting members at midnight Feb. 29. http://www.torontostar.com/NASApp/cs/Conte...ol=968705899037 Quote An education isn't how much you have committed to memory, or even how much you know. Pellaken Posted March 10, 2004 Report Posted March 10, 2004 the Liberals are skrewy too... vote NDP Quote
August1991 Posted March 11, 2004 Report Posted March 11, 2004 Read that article very carefully. Toronto Star? Laschinger? Gee whiz. The Toronto Star is a Liberal rag - with tendancies of NDP/simple, block-letter English for New Canadians. (The intelligent ones, once they learn English, move elsewhere. Been there, done that.) Laschinger is a PR gun for hire. His solution to any problem is to harangue. Well, that's my opinion. I think Harper is right. This campaign will be uglier than Martin's efforts to undo Chretien. willy Posted March 11, 2004 Report Posted March 11, 2004 The lists are not being tampered with. This is not some Liberal junk. The CPC has merged two parties, changed electoral boundaries, and added over 100 000 members in a couple of months. This is no easy task and they are having problems keeping up. By the day of the leadership vote the lists will be in place. Let us hope the staffers in Ottawa work it out because we all need a credible challenge to the liberals. Quote
Pellaken Posted March 11, 2004 Report Posted March 11, 2004 24 hours ago (5am my time) www.conservative.ca had been taken by a cyber-squatter. the site has nothing on it right now. www.conservatuer.ca is taking its place (there's a great shot at anti-french alliancers) but the point is that this party is having some major growing pains, and with the liberals who seem to be giving an example of suiside right now, the tories really need to get their act togethor. maplesyrup Posted March 11, 2004 Author Report Posted March 11, 2004 In some ways I'm surprised that PM Martin hasn't already called the election. We must be on the eve of it. Pellaken Posted March 11, 2004 Report Posted March 11, 2004 if I were Martin, I'd call it right now *stops... looks around...* guess not... regardless of the tory leadership election, I think calling the election at this instant will be his best option. he will lose a large chunk of votes for calling it during the tory leadership convention, yes, but since they are in a convention, they wont pick up too many votes. Especially if Harper wins, as stronach supporters may stay home. The NDP would benifit, but, honestly, we are in no position to take government. This is his only option if he wants to hold on to power. Quote
maplesyrup Posted March 11, 2004 Author Report Posted March 11, 2004 There are a few issues that Martin has to address first. 1 - a whitewashed interim report from the Public Accounts Committeee is required, which he will be able to do, as Liberals are the majority on the committee, I beleive. 2 - a budget needs to be tabled 3 - the new ridings need to go into effect. After these few tasks are accomplished, Martin will be racing to Adrienne's hangout to drop the writ. So 36 days is the minimum period for an election campaign, which is why those rummors of Apri 4 dropping of the writ and May 10 for the actual election got going. Apparently elections have to be held on a Monday as well, with one or two exceptions. Quote An education isn't how much you have committed to memory, or even how much you know.
