To even suggest that people should not have the right to vote speaks volumes. Just another example of how Conservatives lean dangerously towards being fascists...

Sorry but facism did not blossom out of libertarians and conservatives, it evolved from socialists, and progressives.

Progressivism is a term that refers to a broad school of international social and political philosophies. Politically speaking, progressivisms can be described as being socially liberal. The term progressive entered the lexicon of liberal thinking in late 19th century America, in reference to a more general response to the vast changes wrought by industrialization, an alternative to both the traditional conservative response to social and economic issues and to the various more or less radical streams of socialism and anarchism which opposed them. Political parties, such as the Progressive Party, organized at the start of the 20th century, and progressivism made great strides under American presidents Theodore Roosevelt, William H. Taft, Woodrow Wilson, and Franklin Delano Roosevelt.[1]

Yeah, I guess that's why the Nazis derived much of their support from conservative, ultraconservative political parties and paramilitary organizations...

Sure brought out the attack dogs with this one.

I understand. Civil liberties arbitrarily taken away. Not allowed to vote. Not allowed to addres the HoC, or Media as an elected offical. oops! Got confused there for a second.

So according to people who have responded to his quote, for the most part, it appears they feel it is OK to limit a citizen's, who happens to be an immigrant, right to vote.

My question to them is:

Which group of citzens would be the next one to not be given the right to vote?

If this group is not allowed to vote becaue you feel they have undue loyalty to a certain party, what are you going to do to the next group that supports the opposition?

FYI: It is sh!t like this, that stops me from voting Conservative.

Harper differed with his party on some key policy issues; in 1995, for example, he was one of only two Reform MPs to vote in favour of federal legislation requiring owners to register their guns.

The socialists had paramilitaries....so did the National Socialists...given that the National Socialist German Worker Party formed the most aggressive militia, I would think the militia derived their support form the party and not the other way round.

RIGHT of SOME, LEFT of OTHERS

If it is a choice between them and us, I choose us

If you can suggest one without pop-up illustations....

Meanwhile, If you read something about logical paradoxes and posting jibberish I'll stop helping you look foolish.

*yawn* whatever...

Post-war Germany saw several paramilitary groups like Stahlhelm organize to counter left-wing gangs and political organizations. They eventually were integrated into the NSDAP and became part of the SA.

Are you still confused by the fact that a right-wing political movement had "Socialist" in its name?

It used to be considered a measure of intelligence to be able to detect sarcasm.

Not really, no. Harper is pretty controlling in the manner in which he muzzles his MPs, tries to control the media. When supporters of the Cons suggest that people should not vote, that smacks of fascism.

The Liberal party controls its MPs and what information the media gets as well, because a party needs to control its message. Since we're living in an era where the 7 second negative sound bite gets more airtime than full explanations and positive events, what else are they going to do? You can't have potential MPs, who must fall in line once elected anyway, running around during elections saying things that misrepresent the party.

It probably costs the NDP a lot of votes.

I actually like Jack Layton's style. He is by far the most interesting of the current cast to listen to. I don't agree with all of his politics but he has an "approachable" quality about him that the others seem to lack. I am starting to like the idea of Pharmacare. They have it in the UK and it works great, why not in Canada.

I do too. No matter Jack's performance, I wouldn't vote NDP because I can't accept their socialistic policies.

I'd have to agree. I've never agreed with the socialist position they take up. I know it appeals to people who are employees because they have no real decision in how much they get paid and the NDP feeds into that with their platform.

With me being self-employed I take a more Libertarianism point of view of things. I can make more money by working harder and advertising more so I want to keep the majority of the money I make.

Economic Left/Right: 3.25

Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -2.26

I want to earn money and keep the majority of it.
