jaco55 Posted September 29, 2008 Report Posted September 29, 2008 It is widely assumed that Canada doesn't need to. After all, we have the second greatest supply of oil in the world. Prime Minister Stephen Harper boasts to every foreign leader that Canada is an energy superpower. But this superpower has an Achilles heel. We produce more oil than we consume but export two-thirds of it to the United States. Meantime, we import oil to meet 90 per cent of Atlantic Canadians' and Quebeckers' needs. Politically volatile OPEC countries, including Algeria, Iraq and Saudi Arabia, supply almost half of Canada's imported oil. Quote
eyeball Posted September 29, 2008 Report Posted September 29, 2008 Will DION carbon tax middle east? By right's every single thing we import and export should be subject to tax shifting. I'd take it one step farther and tax imports and exports that come and go from countries with lower human rights standards too. White Doors Posted September 29, 2008 Report Posted September 29, 2008 I know the oil we get here in Saint John is from Venezuela, not the Middle East. so.... Quote Those Dern Rednecks done outfoxed the left wing again.~blueblood~

You know - those people who are THE MOST enthusiastic in canada to fight global warming. Maybe we would be an energy super power if our leaders had some commen sense about the use of our oil. Quote

Maybe we would be an energy super power if our leaders had some commen sense about the use of our oil. Oil costs the same no matter where it's from. It is apparently cheaper to bring in oil for the east from the coast then build a pipeline to take it from the west. It really doesn't make a lot of difference as long as energy supplies are secure. However, I would personally feel better if we consumed our own oil and didn't have to worry about the security of our supplies.
