Moonbox Posted September 28, 2008 Report Posted September 28, 2008 (edited) Yes, he's autocratic. You've made more topics over the last few days on this or almost identical issues than I have in my entire history on this website. Tell us something new. Make a relevant point. I beg of you. I really don't want to have to keep scrolling down through the list of threads just because you posting a new "I hate Harper" thread every time I log back in. For the record, North American leadership is typically very autocratic as a whole and it's the Europeans who have the bigger distaste for it. August1991 Posted September 28, 2008 Report Posted September 28, 2008 IS harper Autocratic. If he is the conservatives could be in trouble there is a lot of job dissatifaction involved in that kind of leadership.Autocratic?I would say that Harper's starting to look more like Mackenzie King and John A. Macdonald and less like Wilfrid Laurier or Pierre Trudeau. Harper may even be a St-Laurent. We don't know yet. Mulroney paved the way for Harper and so we'll have to wait and see. Independent, assuming you're Canadian, I suggest that you do some research into your own country's political history. For example, do you know who Edward Blake is? (And why Dion may be his copy?) ---- What type of leader is Harper? So far, I'd say he's a King who can speak French. The Liberals - for the first time since Macdonald - are up against a formidable, institutional candidate. I'd say that Canada is now, officially, a two party democracy. Quote

August1991 Posted September 28, 2008 Report Posted September 28, 2008 You may want to read up on the leadership of mackenzie king before you make such a comment.Your link is only a brief glimpse into the complexity of King. King approved the hiring of Pierre Trudeau to the PCO in 1948.Independent, do you know of the King-Byng affair? Stephen Harper is a PM on a Canadian scale: he's a WASP who speaks (tolerable) French and has support in (Roman Catholic) Quebec. Canada, in all its history, has never had such a PM - a WASP PM who could speak French. Pearson's French was incomprehensible; far worse than Dion's English. Harper has a strong accent but his accent works in his favour. Harper is the first protestant PM who can manage French. Josee Verner during her debate in Quebec noted Harper's ability to understand. Who's Doing What? Posted September 28, 2008 Report Posted September 28, 2008 Harper loves power and control. Witness the lack of freedoms one has as an MP for the CPC. HE has a few trusted attack dogs who he turns loose with a few pre-scripted responses that cover most questions faced in the HoC. All Press conferences are scripted and only "friendly" media are allowed to ask easy questions. HE makes rules that apparently apply to all but him and his party. What he condemed in the past is OK for his party to do in the present. HE is very adept at hoodwinking the general public into believing he is giving them something, while he takes it back down the road. He has done a good job of making a mockery out of our parliamentary system while managing to avoid being held accountable for it. This is the control and behaviour he exercises within a minority Govt.. I shudder at the thought of him with absolute power in a majority. Quote Harper differed with his party on some key policy issues; in 1995, for example, he was one of only two Reform MPs to vote in favour of federal legislation requiring owners to register their guns. http://www.mapleleafweb.com/election/bio/harper.html "You've got to remember that west of Winnipeg the ridings the Liberals hold are dominated by people who are either recent Asian immigrants or recent migrants from eastern Canada: people who live in ghettoes and who are not integrated into western Canadian society." independent Posted September 28, 2008 Author Report Posted September 28, 2008 Sounds like Chretien and Trudeau, and those guys were in power for nearly or over a decade. I don't think Chretien or Trudeau ever scripted anything in there lives. They just said what ever came to mind. Harper on the other hand does not know what to say if he does not have a scripted answer. He was asked if he was a vegetable what kind of vegetable would he be and he was a loss for words. Certainly the conservatives could have found a better leadership candidate than HARPER.` Quote

Not an important question at all. Its just most good leaders have no trouble coming up with responses no matter how stupid the question. If you want a PM that needs scripted answers vote for him. As for me I am not impressed. Quote

Harper should learn to lighten up at bit and just be himself instead of some programed robot. You would have no problem learning what Harper the man is like would you. Quote
Canadian Blue Posted September 29, 2008 Report Posted September 29, 2008 Its is an often asked question. I've never been asked that question, maybe when I was 6 I was asked it. It is supposed to tell something about you as a person but I do no how it works. Yes, I'm sure psychologists base all of their studies of the mind based on what a person's favorite vegetable is. You would have no problem learning what Harper the man is like would you. The only thing that this proves to me is that the left is bankrupt of any ideas. If you're biggest concern this election is wondering what kind of vegetable a leader would like to be, you have a problem. By the way can you give me a link for this shoddy piece of pseudo-journalism. Quote "Keep your government hands off my medicare!" - GOP activist
capricorn Posted September 29, 2008 Report Posted September 29, 2008 By the way can you give me a link for this shoddy piece of pseudo-journalism. CB, see link below. Harper handled "the vegetable" question quite well. He was very witty in his reply. In past public appearances, the prime minister has sometimes appeared stiff and robotic, but senior officials say that, privately, Harper has a sharp, dry sense of humour. http://www.canada.com/topics/news/national...96-2a857ab5a126 To appreciate the humour in this short exchange with the media you must see it on youtube. Canadian Blue Posted September 29, 2008 Report Posted September 29, 2008 (edited) Watch it capricorn, from what I hear fruits are known to be homophobic, sexist, bigoted, and are strong believers in neo-conservatism. It's obvious that they also support a fascist ideology and hate all women. They also strongly support a laissez faire approach to the economy. The worst trait of fruit is that they also believe Canada should become a part of the United States. Do you really want more of this? Obviously we'd be better off with Dion whose favorite vegetable is the potato. Edited September 29, 2008 by Canadian Blue Quote "Keep your government hands off my medicare!" - GOP activist
