Keepitsimple Posted September 22, 2008 Report Posted September 22, 2008 (edited) Talk about sneaky. The media played up this announcement by the Liberals but nowhere did I see the details. As you can see, Dion - the man of great integrity - will be using already budgeted funds to pay for the first 4 years of this "program". In other words, he is re-announcing a Conservative measure......go figure. Since this is Dion's grand commitment to Cities - I guess he feels that the Conservatives are doing a pretty good job. These Liberals are just so desperate. The largest single sum Dion has announced on the campaign trail was $70-billion over a decade for fixing infrastructure. But the first four years of costs will be covered by the $33-billion the Conservatives have already set aside for infrastructure, so it is not counted as new spending. scribblet Posted September 22, 2008 Report Posted September 22, 2008 (edited) I'm going to put this in the same thread, it's worth a read, http://stevejanke.com/archives/273961.php so now who has a secret hidden agenda I haven't listened yet to the tapes.. Liberal Platform Meeting Call: Childcare low priority, gut the military, silence on the Green Shift There are several interesting points. Going back to standard Liberal-style practise, the military is going to be bled dry. Childcare spaces will be made if the Liberals find money after paying for everything else. And the Green Shift? Not mentioned during the main presentation. Seems the Liberals have a leaky ship LOL Edited September 22, 2008 by scriblett Quote Hey Ho - Ontario Liberals Have to Go - Fight Wynne - save our province
Keepitsimple Posted September 23, 2008 Author Report Posted September 23, 2008 In addition to not providing any extra funding for Infrastructure - over and above what is in the Conservative budget.....here's some other smoke and mirror announcements....say absolutely anything to get back into power and then do nothing again. They had back to back to back majorities and did nothing for cities, nothing for Native issues, nothing for poverty (eliminate by 2000), nothing for the environment, nothing for the fiscal imbalance and national unity, nothing for the Military, nothing for Daycare. Who could possibly vote for these guys? Likewise, the $5-billion Kelowna Accord on aboriginal development, which the Conservatives have ignored and the Liberals have committed to resurrecting. Just not in the first four years of being in government, it appears. Aboriginal Canadians can expect only $2-billion over four years, according to the plan. The commitment to introduce a universal daycare plan is another platform plank that is substantially underfunded -- there is only $1.5-billion allocated in the first four years, far short of the $5-billion or so a national program would cost. August1991 Posted September 24, 2008 Report Posted September 24, 2008 $70 billion over 4 years or 10 years, does it matter? For infrastructure or culture? Revenue neutral or not? Does anybody reading this believe that the Liberals, if elected, will do anything remotely connected to what they are now promising? I am only surprised that Dion has gone to the trouble of announcing such an elaborate platform. Why waste everyone's time? Even the Soviet Five Year Plans had a greater connection to reality. I initially thought that Dion was a fin politician. Clearly he's not. Sad. Quote

According to the CBC, the numbers work (based on 7 month old figures). The economy will be slow for the next couple of years, so they will probably have to implement things more slowly. Quote
