Pinch yourself, when you wake up, the numbers will change. My view. The numbers will be about what they are now (all except the debt, which will be about half a billion higher because of the election). Quote

The numbers will be about what they are now (all except the debt, which will be about half a billion higher because of the election). Since there is a minimum debt principle payment of $3B a year, its highly unlikely that the debt will be any higher. Quote

blueblood Posted September 9, 2008 Report Posted September 9, 2008 The Green party? The green party is a one trick pony all about the environment. If Canadians cared about the environment like they do, we'd have a green party majority. We're talking real alternatives here, as much as I don't like the Libs, I will give them that their platform is geared towards a large group of Canadians, like the tories. The greens are targeted at environmentalists and are attempting a go at social engineering. jdobbin Posted September 9, 2008 Author Report Posted September 9, 2008 Nay, in predicting a Harper dictatorship... I wish I wasn't that pessimistic but I see a collapse of the Liberal vote in the trends right now and don't see things improving in five weeks. Quote
Old Ghost Posted September 9, 2008 Report Posted September 9, 2008 (edited) Conservative: 145 Liberal: 80 Bloc: 45 NDP: 31 Green: 2 Independents: 5 But who knows. I'm just pushing the realistic limits Maybe the NDP might take 3rd Party status? Though if Dion continues this horrible stuff, the party might end up with 50-60 seats, and the nation might end up with a Layton-Duceppe war. Edited September 9, 2008 by Old Ghost Quote

jdobbin Posted September 9, 2008 Author Report Posted September 9, 2008 Well, unless you consult a crystal ball, I don't know how you can tell the future with such certainty... I'm basing my prediction on past electoral campaigns of the Liberals, polling results, leadership, timing, issues and rise of the additional parties. It doesn't lead one to make a very promising outcome for the Liberals. Add to that the $2 million the Liberals have borrowed to fund operations in the past years and the $19 million they have borrowed for the election, I don't see a very happy post election outcome either. New rules on election financing mean the Liberals would never be able to pay the debt even with a large small donor base. Quote
Old Ghost Posted September 9, 2008 Report Posted September 9, 2008 Greens 2? -- what ridings? Well I'm being optimistic for the Green Party, considering I'm not an environmentalists and a Conservative. But with May out of the debates, they probably will end up with 0. That's a lot of Independents. Well, there are 5 independents in Parliament when Parliament dissolved, but only 1 were elected, so, if the media focuses on Harper-Dion attacks, I can expect a drop of 2 or 3, but I expect the number to stay the same. Even if the same incumbents aren't re-elected. Quote
fellowtraveller Posted September 9, 2008 Report Posted September 9, 2008 I still think Dion is the best thing to happen to the Cons... One of the best, for sure. I hope Mr Dion is in excellent health and spirits and leads the Liberals for a long long time. Quote The government should do something.

Duceppe is already packed and waiting for the moving van, he can't get out of that job fast enough, and it won't matter whatever happens in the election- he is gone. Quote The government should do something.
normanchateau Posted September 10, 2008 Report Posted September 10, 2008 According to trendlines (September 9, 2008), a straight conversion of all September polls to date (including EKOS and Segma) yields: CPC 171 seats Liberals 74 seats BQ 32 seats NDP 30 seats Independent 1 seat Then again, this might be meaningless since as recently as September 1. 2008, trendlines predicted a Liberal minority.
