Wilber Posted September 6, 2008 Report Posted September 6, 2008 (edited) Link In the words of Reena Virk's father. "Don't confuse justice with the legal system, that stinks like a rotten fish". In the words of Wally Opel, the BC Attorney General, former judge and often appologist for the legal system, "any system that can't get it right after three tries should be having a serious look at itself". Anyone honestly think that will happen? Edited September 6, 2008 by Wilber Quote "Never trust a man who has not a single redeeming vice". WSC

The worst effect of these cases are the way they fuel urges for reactionary reforms of the justice system into a revenge system. Wilber Posted September 14, 2008 Author Report Posted September 14, 2008 The worst effect of these cases are the way they fuel urges for reactionary reforms of the justice system into a revenge system. The worst effect is how low expectations have become for so many Canadians regarding the legal system. They also point to the lack of respect appeal courts have for juries and their opinions. After all, who sat the court room listening to the evidence all those weeks? Quote "Never trust a man who has not a single redeeming vice". WSC
Mr.Canada Posted November 25, 2008 Report Posted November 25, 2008 (edited) Yep you have the Liberals to thank for the hug a thug system we have now. Offenders dont want to be rehabilitated they want to get out to start robbing and dealing drugs again. jbg Posted November 25, 2008 Report Posted November 25, 2008 The worst effect of these cases are the way they fuel urges for reactionary reforms of the justice system into a revenge system. Far from revenge, these people ought to stroll in unsupervised liberty among the general prison population. True democracy. I tend to agree with him on this one but most of his posts are white supremacist farts. Quote Free speech: "You can say what you want, but I don't have to lend you my megaphone." tango Posted July 19, 2009 Report Posted July 19, 2009 (edited) I tend to agree with him on this one but most of his posts are white supremacist farts. "most" agreed! It must really stink under Mr Canada's cape! To borrow a thought ... that must be why his ideas are so shi**y! I don't agree with him on this one either, because that isn't my personal experience. The people I met when briefly working in a jail, medium and maximum security, were very interested in improving their situation. They were very grateful, excited, emotional, child-like (the men friggen cried!) when given an 800 number for the GED program (high school equivalency). They wanted to know 'my secret to success' ("Get a job you like.") And they were very respectful. I recognized them all ... they are, by and large, the products of 'special education' in our schools. Not to knock special ed ... they are the people with learning disabilities or environmental damage who are virtually unemployable in our world. It's time the 'far right' appreciated the gifts genetics and environment have bestowed upon them simply by luck, and stopped stomping on those who don't have their advantages. It's just sick. It's not like some people can be condemned for 'making bad choices' of their genetic or environmental circumstances, nor can the Mr Canadas be applauded for 'making good choices' of theirs. Fact is, for people born into disadvantages, just surviving however they can takes at least twice as much discipline, effort and social smarts as it does for those who have advantages they never had. It's funny how we have all these statistics on the incidence of birth defects, learning disabilities, environmental deprivation, poverty/malnutrition, child abuse, incest, sexual abuse, etc ... the hidden disabilities ... and no one ever wonders what happens to those 'children'. What often happens is they end up in jail because they simply can't compete for jobs, and society, especially on the 'right', pities them as children but shuns and excludes them as adults. The only difference between an alcoholic on the street and one behind a Bay St desk is that the latter can afford his addiction. "Hug a thug" and you will be amazed at the beautiful person who emerges, only to be shot down by the 'Mr Canadas' of society again and again and again. However, this is a tangent about prisons, not on the topic of Reena Virk and her young female killer. Another trial? My god. Society can't believe a teen girl could do that? Does society know what may have been done to her? Not excusing ... just pointing out that people often live out what they've learned in childhood to the point where society needs protection from them. Molly Posted July 20, 2009 Report Posted July 20, 2009 Good post, Tango. However... it does have to be noted.... psychopathy/sociopathy are also on that list of disabilities. It's learned behaviour, but very possibly self-taught. Quote "Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain!" — L.
