Say what you want but the fact is Bush is equated with a chimp (by most) because of his lack of smarts. Obama and ape , as you inferred, is due to colour. Therein lies the difference. Krikey, you are digging an even deeper hole...so let's review: 1) "Layton Apes Obama"....not "Obama Apes Layton". Ape in this context means "mimic", not your opinion about "colour", whatever the hell that means (and a completely different Canuck anxiety that gave birth to such odd notions as "visible minority...but I digress). 2) President Bush has been equated to "Chimp"....as in "chimpanzee" because of physical appearance foremost, not just smarts. The word "apes" was purposely chosen to reverse such political love. Note: Jack Layton is the subject, not object in the thread's title. Either way, I knew that somebody would bite and run with it.....thanks! Okay, so you did do it deliberately... doesn't matter who the subject/object is, it's the fact that you would choose the word "apes" in the context it is in. Could easily have used a dozen other words. While we're on the subject: that Manning/Williams commercial when one of the Manning brothers says "gone like Donkey Kong". Hmmmm...
