guyser Posted July 17, 2008 Report Posted July 17, 2008 ...for me HP sauce is an all purpose sauce; as good on eggs as it is on fires or chicken. Not bad to add to a spagetti sauce too Maybe............but steak ? Blasphemy I say. A dash of Montreal spice is all thats needed. Quote
M.Dancer Posted July 17, 2008 Report Posted July 17, 2008 Maybe............but steak ?Blasphemy I say. A dash of Montreal spice is all thats needed. It's a working class british thing...sauce in a bottle. The french make sauce in a saucepan, the British make gravey. In the states they call sauce in a bottle, steak sauce (and now the label of HP reflects that) but in Britain amongst the hoi polloi it goes on everything. Personally I think it can't be beat on a sardine sandwich. Quote RIGHT of SOME, LEFT of OTHERS If it is a choice between them and us, I choose us

Wilber Posted July 19, 2008 Report Posted July 19, 2008 The Barbarian Steak House in Toronto has a very good steak spice. They used to sell it for five bucks a jar and I would often pick up a few for self and friends when in TO. Quote "Never trust a man who has not a single redeeming vice". WSC
M.Dancer Posted July 19, 2008 Report Posted July 19, 2008 Does HP sell in the US? Since the acquisition by Heinz, yes. But generally only at higher end specialty shops but that may change. Good on eggs, good on kippers. On a related note, why do supermarkets insist on stocking vegemite and marmite in the baking section Quote RIGHT of SOME, LEFT of OTHERS If it is a choice between them and us, I choose us
guyser Posted July 21, 2008 Report Posted July 21, 2008 On a related note, why do supermarkets insist on stocking vegemite and marmite in the baking section Because those are the sections no one goes in. Vegemite? Take one soiled pair of underwear , seal in a bag for a week , make toast , open week old bag and enjoy! And ahem...everyone knows marmite is an outdoors supply company. Good tents and all.
