jdobbin Posted May 23, 2008 Report Posted May 23, 2008 Today was the last day for CBC Newsworld's broadcast out of Calgary. http://insidethecbc.com/abnews The CBC will dramatically increase resources devoted to covering local and national news in Alberta generally and Calgary and Edmonton in particular.Saying it’s moving to fulfill a commitment to local newsgathering announced nationally last year, CBC News will be doubling the number of newsgathering resources in Alberta by adding approximately 25 new assignments for television journalists based in Calgary and Edmonton to focus on local and national stories originating in Alberta. At the same time, however, the CBC said it would move to Toronto the two hours of programming for CBC Newsworld, which are currently being produced in Calgary. It is a shame that the broadcast is leaving. The news is already very Toronto centered. Quote

Wilber Posted May 23, 2008 Report Posted May 23, 2008 Gotta wonder why they had a Calgary Does CNN have any cntres outside of Atlanta? Perhaps because it is supposed to be a Canadian network supported by the tax dollars of all Canadians. CNN does have broadcast centers in London and Hong Kong. jdobbin Posted May 28, 2008 Author Report Posted May 28, 2008 CBC's fall line-up. http://jam.canoe.ca/Television/2008/05/26/5675731-sun.html "It's a very satisfying feeling," said executive director or programming Kirstine Layfield, referring to the fact the CBC schedule is full of returnees that were launched in the past couple of years. The list includes The Border, Sophie, Little Mosque on the Prairie, Heartland, The Tudors, Dragons' Den, Test the Nation and even the daytime show, Steven and Chris."It's such a great compliment to the people who put these shows together, that they get to -- well, not get to come back -- but they've earned the right to come back," Layfield said. So in other words, no charity comebacks. Not that the CBC ever had to resort to that in past years. I think Max Bernier stayed home yesterday to watch the Steven and Chris show. Harper asked his wife to tape them for him while he is in Europe. Quote

The news is already very Toronto centered. Hah, funny that I live in Alberta and learn about this here, which is indicative of the interest people have in watching CBC. Extra CBC resources in Alberta are strictly so the CBC executives and the Friends of the CBC can pretend anybody here watches or listens to the network. A colossal and galling waste of our money on entertainment, and painfully self-aware, bad entertainment at that. The CBC has always billed itself as a unifying force for the country and is now the opposite of that. Quote The government should do something.
jdobbin Posted July 30, 2008 Author Report Posted July 30, 2008 CBC show first Canadian comedy to simulcast in the U.S. http://www.zap2it.com/tv/news/zap-abc18tol...0,1376119.story ABC has joined CBS and NBC in importing programming from north of the border. The Alphabet network has bought the U.S. rights to "18 to Life," a comedy pilot about two 18-year-olds who get married on a dare, causing much consternation among their families and friends. The show is the first comedy developed simultaneously for U.S. and Canadian networks, the showbiz trade papers say. The CTV show Flashpoint has moved from Fridays to Thursdays because of high ratings. The show is remarkably stripped of most evidence to show that is filmed in Canada though. Quote
