jdobbin Posted May 7, 2008 Report Posted May 7, 2008 (edited) http://ca.news.yahoo.com/s/capress/080507/national/oda_limos Government documents show that Conservative cabinet minister Bev Oda racked up thousands of dollars in hidden expenses for limousine rides. An access-to-information request by the NDP, covering the Conservative government's first 15 months in office, reveals invoices for Oda that were not "proactively" disclosed online under Treasury Board rules. Oda, who was minister of Canadian heritage at the time, spent almost $17,000 on limos during the period - more than half of which never found its way on to her publicly disclosed expenses. The limo receipts also point to a series of undisclosed flights and hotel stays of unknown cost to taxpayers, New Democrat MP Charlie Angus charged in the Commons. This isn't the first time we have seen Tory ministers artificially lowering their expense accounts by playing a shell game with their departmental expense accounts. I especially love the zero expense accounts when ministers are seeing regularly dining at working dinners and lunches. Who picks up the tab? Edited May 7, 2008 by jdobbin Quote

Who's Doing What? Posted May 8, 2008 Report Posted May 8, 2008 Just another example of CPC "Integrity". A few thousand here, a few thousand there, a million or two on occassion. Given enough rope and it won't matter who the LPC have in charge, the CPC will hang themselves and be turfed. Quote Harper differed with his party on some key policy issues; in 1995, for example, he was one of only two Reform MPs to vote in favour of federal legislation requiring owners to register their guns. http://www.mapleleafweb.com/election/bio/harper.html "You've got to remember that west of Winnipeg the ridings the Liberals hold are dominated by people who are either recent Asian immigrants or recent migrants from eastern Canada: people who live in ghettoes and who are not integrated into western Canadian society." jdobbin Posted May 8, 2008 Author Report Posted May 8, 2008 Just another example of CPC "Integrity". A few thousand here, a few thousand there, a million or two on occassion. Given enough rope and it won't matter who the LPC have in charge, the CPC will hang themselves and be turfed. The thing is the make this huge deal of not having any expenses (for some of the ministers). Then, it is revealed that those costs are shuffled around to department spending. It lacks transparency. They should just list expenses openly and stop playing this game. The Tories have been so tied up to show they are not spending money to do their jobs that they end up looking dishonest when reporters plainly seeing them eating working lunches and dinners with department colleagues. Who the heck is picking up the tab? Are they making a personal tax claim even for work related expenses? Are lobbyists picking up the tab? Quote
Fortunata Posted May 8, 2008 Report Posted May 8, 2008 Wow. Thousands of dollars. This really must be a slow news day. Are you serious? Is there anything this party could do to make the partisan criticize them? Our "new" government being open, transparent and accountable. Quote
madmax Posted May 21, 2008 Report Posted May 21, 2008 Wow. Thousands of dollars. This really must be a slow news day. I am entitled to my entitlements. Remember that was only a pack of gum. Seem like we just have another pig at the trough, and that there will not be real change in government. Reform is dead. Quote

It sure would, if Bev Oda were being criticized for doing something really, really positive. Since that's not what's happened, though, your comment is absurd. Quote
