Wilber Posted May 8, 2008 Report Posted May 8, 2008 Only because the polls show he would likely repeat where he is right now. Maybe so but also the same reason Dion doesn't get off the pot. Don't really see what any of this has to do with renovating 24 Sussex though, Quote "Never trust a man who has not a single redeeming vice". WSC
jdobbin Posted May 8, 2008 Report Posted May 8, 2008 Maybe so but also the same reason Dion doesn't get off the pot. Don't really see what any of this has to do with renovating 24 Sussex though, Perhaps since you brought it up about how an election initiated by Dion would hasten the renovation schedule. I've already stated that I think Harper would win again if an election were held today. What I don't know is if Harper is committed to renovating the official residence even then. Quote

jdobbin Posted May 8, 2008 Report Posted May 8, 2008 No one was doing anything of the sort untill you injected partisan politics into this thread. Well, blow me down that partisan politics entered into a political thread. I think Harper's decision not to move is a political one because in the absence of any other explanation it looks political. Fortunata Posted May 8, 2008 Report Posted May 8, 2008 I think Harper's decision not to move is a political one because in the absence of any other explanation it looks political. Yep, sure does. It is not proper for our Prime Minister to live in a dumpy run down residence with Mila Mulroney's old worn out leopard spotted carpet and drafty windows that Rick Mercer had to plastic. I guess Steve just doesn't have any class - from old fishing vests at an international meetings to willingly let dignitaries view a shambles of a mansion .... what were we thinking? Quote
Michael Bluth Posted May 8, 2008 Report Posted May 8, 2008 Well, blow me down that partisan politics entered into a political thread. Were you trying to be partisan or were you joking? As this letter to the editor in Ottawa reveals, there is the guest house at Rideau Gate that can be used. It would be similar to when Truman had to stay at Blair House for three years in 1948 while the Whitehouse was repaired. http://www.canada.com/ottawacitizen/news/l...04-1dea3572da20 By way of example, in late 1948, the White House in Washington was in such disrepair President Harry Truman and family moved to Blair House. The Trumans did not return for more than three years due to the extensive work required. The Canadian government's official guest house at 7 Rideau Gate comes to mind for the Harper family. Quote
Fortunata Posted May 8, 2008 Report Posted May 8, 2008 Ten million over 1.5 years if it is done now versus who knows how many million over how many years due to further deterioration down the road? It should be done immediately. After all ... it would come out to be less than 20k per day, maybe not much more than Ministers' limo costs if it's all added up. Quote
jbg Posted May 8, 2008 Report Posted May 8, 2008 Harper has the same right. He can simply declare that he has lost the confidence of Parliament and go the Governor-General. It doesn't even require a vote. It never did.The reason neither has is because they are in the same position they were when the 2006 election results came in: A Tory minority government. It would also violate the spirit if not the letter of a law he suggested and supported. Quote Free speech: "You can say what you want, but I don't have to lend you my megaphone." Michael Bluth Posted May 8, 2008 Report Posted May 8, 2008 He also never misses an opportunity to slime Harper. Those slimings ring more and more hollow as he continually allows Harper to proceed with his agenda. A course of action the Bloc, NDP and CPC won't let the voters forget. jdobbin Posted May 9, 2008 Report Posted May 9, 2008 I see the pot is calling the kettle black. I suspect the personalizing is happening again. Anyone asking why Harper had decided to remain at 24 Sussex? Quote
