Thank you. I apppreciate that. There are a lot of good Americans and I too believe that they are what makes my country great.

I wouldn't take anti-U.S. comments too personally though. As bush-cheney2004 has spent countless hours dedicated to reminding anyone who will listen, Canada is just as complicit in American foreign policy and any Canadian has it coming as much as any American. Terrorists would be just as happy to kill my Canadian family as your American one, and they would be pleased to kill USHaditcoming's family too.

I admit when I saw the thread title I thought it was refering to the general behaviour on these boards and not singling out one particular poster.

Posters are regularly insulted and belittled on these boards. It has been going on since before I signed up and although a few ofthe worst have been dismissed it still continues within the limitted boundaries set out by admin. I just figure it is common practice around here.

This is a corollary to an issue I raised in another opening post, quoted below. The level of discussion has degenerated to the point that this thread has two pages, and serious threads often get no response. Read below:

In my two plus years' experience on this Board, and a similar length of time on another Canadian board, frequently I will start threads with essay-style posts. On some occasions, such as my "This is America" thread the subjects draw multiple pages of responsive posts. This is the exception and most rarely draw any responses, or else die after one or two posts like "well-said".

The problem presented is far mor than any (minor) hurt feelings. As a result of "spamming" rules on this forum I am not at liberty to repost the same material in response to other posts made elsewhere. I may be in violation if I use the material on other boards which I frequent, one or two of them Canadian or Canadian-American.

I wonder what people's thoughts are. I am not challenging the House Rules, which overall maintain civility and a relatively high level of debate.

A friend who sits on the board of a big American company remarked that They call Canadians Mexicans in Sweat Shirts. He remarked that they tend to forget he is Canadian.

How would you know that for a fact?

I think the fact that they kill people indiscriminately is irrefutable proof that they kill people indiscriminately.

Dragging in members screen names is not irrefutable proof that they kill people indiscrimately.

You have only proven your 'death wish' for certain posters namely 'USHaditcoming'.

Your reading comprehension is getting worse and worse. I brought up that former member as an example that even a westerner who is opposed to U.S. foreign policy is still a target in the eyes of a terrorist. I have a death wish for no one, except perhaps for the terrorists themselves.

This is what you wrote:

The implication is clear, relating to wishing harm, to USHaditcoming.

Your descriptive writing skills need upgrading as we are not all mind readers.

BTW- Canada is not complicit in American foreign policy, as we are an aly and not an instigator or in partnership in wrongdoing. According to you this would also make the U.N. an accomplice.

I wouldn't so readily digest everthing BC has to say.

Sure is...you can't comprehend.

You are making yourself look like a fool without explaining what I fail to comprehend.

Anyways, there is nothing to comprehend.

There is no further need to include USHaditcoming's name like Bubber did, unless he purposely wished physical harm to USHaditcoming by the actions of terrorist.

The need to put down Americans isn't just confined to political discussions-- I've run into it when I'm on vacation simply because I'm an American. For whatever reason, being PC doesn't seem to apply to us. Frankly, I'm getting tired of it; especially since I believe in the philosophy 'let he who is witout sin cast the first stone.' In other words, there really should be no stone throwing at all.

Hey Am I am serious when I say try laugh at it. When I was young I needed to get stoned to be able to laugh them off, now I can just laugh. The good think about aging is you develop existential dementia and it helps.

The absurdity of precisely what you say is what makes it funny. I think its hilarious when some pervert tells me I am evil and going to hell, etc. So I say, " uh yah it would sound better if you stopped pointing at me with your edible dildot Padre..."

Oy. Humans. To think what we do with peanutbutter let alone rightreousness.

Lol JBG almost gets it. Yoh JBG a lot of people grip themselves and take it seriously cuz they are lonely.

Me I prefer the real thing. Either way I guess we should all give ourselves a big hand now and then.

I would say anyone who submits approx. 15 posts a day like you, would probably seriously consider their opinion extraordinarily important.

Wouldn't you say!

I understand what you're saying, Rue. And I appreciate it. Mostly I do laugh off the absurdity of it all, but what got to me is the admin allowing a name like "USHaditComing." I find that so disrespectful to Americans, and completely against the rules.

This board is the product of a Canadian University. It draws interviews from politicans/national figures. As such, I feel it speaks for/represents Canada, and allowing Americans to be disrespected this way is a big disappointment. Maybe when "existential dementia" sets in it will cease to bother me. :P

I just have a problem with silencing any talk of "chickens coming home to roost," which is essentially what his name implied. Whether or not you agree with him, there's often a lot of useful self-examination that can come from such criticism.

So in your opinion, expecting a handle to be respectful when the rules call for respect is "silencing criticism?" The name simply says that Americans who died on 911 had it coming. That's not "criticism;" it's a horrible thing to say about innocent people who lost their lives. Toddlers lost their lives. Children lost their lives. Teens lost their lives. You think they had anything to do with America's foreign policy? But if that's someone's views, so be it. That could be said in a thread-- and in fact, it has been. Do you see me asking for anyone to be silenced in that thread? No. However, choosing to say it in every post via a handle is a whole different matter. One can't even refer to Harper as "Stevie" in a post, yet this disrespect for Americans-- many who do NOT support our foreign policy or have no say in it-- was allowed.

So I want to make this very clear yet again. I have never, ever so much as insinuated that I believe anyone's "criticism" should be "silenced." However, criticism and disrespect are two very different things. One can be critical and respectful at the same time, and I find allowing such a handle to be very disrespectful to Americans; and in this instance I think it reflects on Canada for the reasons I stated.

I find hard to understand how the word 'respect' relates to the citizens of a country, in this case namely the U.S.

To imply being 'disrespectful' towards Americans in general, has no meaning, as it is not directed to an identifiable person.

The Concise Oxford Dictionary primary definition of the word 'respect': 1.-differential esteem felt or shown towards a PERSON or QUALITY.

So in effect American Woman, you are in fact trying to silence criticism and by one of the worst ways of doing it via character assassination.

If you feel so strongly about any posters behavior...report them.

Now, what if "USHadItComing" was the person's real name the way Grace Slick's children were named "G-d" and "Chyna" and Frank Zappa's son was named "Moon Unit".

And what if I were the princess of the universe?

I fail to see how anyone would be offended or feel disrespected by the name "Moon Unit," but for the record, Grace Slick didn't name her child god, she named her China. Chynna is Michelle Philips' daughter's name.

His or her name, I forget what gender.

AW turns out to be right. It was an urban legend (see www.snopes.com).
