he NDP is the only party that proposes viable solutions for Canada's ever growing problems due to the policies of the liberal and conservative government. Here is a video of me explaining the proposals of the NDP for a better health care system! Please forward it! http://ca.youtube.com/watch?v=EMcH7jbLxz8

Just a lot of promises as you get from other parties. In fact it has so little content to it that when you add that creepy music you wonder if it is not a spoof.

If the men do not die well it will be a black matter for the king that led them to it.

The NDP is a joke. That video sounds like something out of the USSR.

Well the song is from Spain! hahahaha

And why is the NDP a joke? Because it has the support of the unions? Or because it wants Canada o keep he 600 000 manufacturing job that were lost due to the globalization of the economy? Or because it brought public health care that you enjoy ,despite the Liberals degrading it? Or is it maybe that the NDP is the only party that wants Canada to respect the Kyoto agreement? Oh wait I found out why the NDP is a joke! Because it wants more social security programs and less tuition fees to make education accessible to everyone! Look man , social democrac is the best system and you can see the results in Sweden , Norway etc. Support the NDP for a better fture for all of us.

Well it is not a lot of promises... It is the advocation of a different political system that distinguishes the parties. The NDP is different and that is why it is better than the Liberals and the Conservatives.

Every promise in that video I have heard before from one party or another. And given that the NDP is the 4th party in the House it shows what the public thinks of it.

Social democracy sucks. I dont want social programs. I want to keep my own money. I dont want to have to listen to feminists and gays all the time getting on with their "equality" crap. If you like Scandanavian welfare states then go move there.

Well the NDP actually receives 20% of the popular vote so it is not the NDP that has a problem it is the electoral system. The bloq receives 1 000 000 less votes than the NDP but still got more seats!

Well I admit the video is kind of vague but no other party says no to the privatization! Remember that in 2004 the NDP withdrew its support to the Liberal government which had a minority government over that very issue! The interests of the private clinics push politicians to degrade maybe even on purpose the public system! And the NDP is different than the other parties over that issue. Also on the drugs now the NDP is the only party capable to pressure the drug companies to lower the drug prices.

This is the kind of democracy you are advocating? Exile for anyone who disagrees with you ? My God you are very democratic. Also Social Democracy does not mean increased taxation ! And it certainly does not mean a welfare state ! It just means control over our country's natural resources , support for local businesses and local initiative, no money on wars (like in Afganistan!), security and prosperity for all!

Not exactly what Ontario got with its one disastrous experience with the Dippers. Remember Rae Days? Civil Servants being forced to take a day off each week without pay? Rae is now a Lib and I won't be voting for them either.

Meaning 80% of the population want nothing to do with the NDP.

Well I am not aware of that issue since i live in Montreal,Quebec. But still the provincial parties are not the same as the Federal Parties. I do not know if what you are saying is true , but i trust you it is because you have no reason to lie. Well we are people and we make mistakes. That was not an official NDP policy and certainly I am not proud of it. But if the civil servants wanted that (because the unions were NDP controlled) then it must have been something requested by the workers themselves!

What was your name in your past life - Bob Hope? :P

The bill was passed in the Ontario Legislature over the strenuous objections of Bob White and the Ontario Federation of Labour. I know of no other province that has been forced into the dire straits needed to take such action.

You say you live in Montreal. How many seats do you expect the NDP to take in Quebec in the next federal election?

I watched the video. What it advocates is spend, spend, spend - and it's free, free. free. The NDP is emulating the Healthcare systems of North Korea and Cuba - the only countries that completely ban Private Healthcare. I live in Ontario and our Provincial government already spends 40% of all revenues on Healthcare - I'm sure a similar amount is being spent in other provinces. The current system is already unsustainable. What we need to do is look at some of the success stories of other countries who have managed to blend Private and Public systems to create effective Healthcare delivery.

Here's an interesting article about how Germany, Netherlands (Dutch) and Switzerland have managed to blend Private Insurance into their publicly funded systems. It's a real shame that our Left wing parties and media have polarized Healthcare in Canada. This is very good reading material - it analyses each of these three countries. Following is just the summary:

Switzerland, the Netherlands and Germany have each found different answers to the often heard criticism that a private health insurance system does not allow citizens with a high individual health risk to insure themselves. They have created healthcare systems that are less two-tiered than those in their neighbouring countries, because they allow people to buy private health insurance without having to pay twice. Because their systems rely to a larger extent on capitalisation, they have also created an investment pool of domestic capital. Though the systems have their flaws, in general the few privately insured healthcare systems of Europe seem better equipped for the future than Europe's many government regulated systems. They are interesting laboratories for healthcare reform. They are consumer driven and they are trying out a variety of interesting ideas, such as medical savings accounts, healthcare vouchers, and bonuses. Private systems allow for experimentation, which is a necessary prerequisite for finding solutions.

PS: The video music does sound like it's Russian - quite appropriate indeed.

A comment on the music. It's so bizarre you really have to wonder if it's a legitimate party commercial at all. Not only Russian - but an opera to boot.

Because the NDP approaches health care from a purely ideological point of view the blended systems found in Europe cannot even be examined as options for Canada. So the only thing they can do is promise more spending.

A reply to all of you. First of all the song to the video is called a las baricadas and it is Spanish not Russian. You see a lot of communist phantoms. Relax, the Soviet Union collapsed. You are SAFE!

Second of all, the Liberals and Conservatives are purposely underfunding public health care in order to promote private health care. And I ask. How did public health care work all this year and suddenly now it is rendered something impossible to work? So according to you our system has to turn like the american ,where you have to pay 3000$ for a broken leg? Where they let you die if you have no money for the hospital?

The public health care system was won by years of stuggling and it is a social achievement. Your parents fought for it for god's sake! And now suddenly it is something evil that costs tax payers money... We ll see how you ll like it when we have private health care and you have to pay tens of thousands of dollars for insurance. I have american friends and they are all jealous of our healthcare system which we won with our own blood!

Such social achievements will not be lost because of some propagandizing neo-liberal news paper editors who invented these theories of how bad public health care is and how it doesn't work in order to achieve their own selfish interests , throwing to the garbage the interests of the population!

It doesn't matter if the music originates from the Klingon home world. The ad is just a pile of empty promises.

I heard an ad on the radio recently. It was for supplemental health care insurance - not for drugs like many people have but to provide coverage in the US when there are delays in getting treatment in Canada - like the nine months I had to wait for eye surgery. And more and more in Canada we are forced to send patients to the US since our own system has broken down.

We clearly need to debate health care delivery but the NDP with its simplistic approach that more government intervention can cure anything (no pun intended) is not helpful. We need to carve out the public/private balance that works best for us as they have done in Europe. Many socialists talk about France as the nirvana for health care or get misty eyed when speaking of the British National Health Service. In both these countries private health care operates alongside the public system.

I used to work in the US for a Canadian company. The biggest problem in getting Americans to come to Canada to work in the head office was the fear of getting sick and getting inferior health care.

You clearly need to pay attention to how Healthcare works. First of all, the Provinces are responsible for the delivery of Healthcare and each province can deliver services as they see fit, within the confines of the Canada Health Act - which basically prevents mass privatization. Provinces currently fund about 85% of all Healthcare and in doing so, spend about 40% of all their revenues. So if the NDP got into power (God help us), they would not be able to do anthing more than the current Federal government. Secondly, Healthcare used to work better for a number of reasons - mainly the population has aged because of the Baby Boomers - and older people need more services. But there is another issue that seldom gets talked about and that is respect for the system. When it was originally introduced, it was a basic system - because medicine back then was not as advanced as today. People went from having no Medicare at all to a Government assisted Plan - and they were grateful for it. They knew it came from taxes and they could see the improvement. But as years went by, people forgot that we all pay for it and they took it for granted - have the sniffles? - go to the ER. Who cares who pays - its my right to have as much Healthcare and as many doctor visits as I want. Also, there are many more treatments and medicines around today - most of them much more expensive. Look at Aids, Dialysis, Autism, organ transplants, Cancer treatments, etc.

So back to my previous post on the successes of some European countries in blending Private and Public services. Canada is blessed with 10 provinces who can try different things. The ones that work - and that might include some Private Delivery - can be copied by other provinces.

I hope you are starting to see the light.

Do YOU remember Rae days. Ontario was in a recession and Rae has admitted he as learned alot since then. Rae did keep people working and I know people who worked on Rae days and they said they were glad that they had a job! Which was worse, a Rae day or being beatup by the OPP under Harris? Harris did much more damage to Ontario than Rae ever did!

Yes, I do. I fought Bill 40 tooth and nail and was happy when the Harris government rescinded it.
