bush_cheney2004 Posted January 20, 2008 Report Posted January 20, 2008 Just maybe the answer to this debated question is for NATO to stay inside Afghanistan's border and keep out Taliban there and let the US send in their "special forces" as Bush has said. What is Pakistan going to do, attack the US forces? Nah...let Mr. Dion and his big mouth lead Canada's JTF2 into Pakistan. Show those 'merkins how it's done! Quote Economics trumps Virtue.
jdobbin Posted January 21, 2008 Report Posted January 21, 2008 (edited) That Stephen Harper...he's so devious, he MADE Dion act like a rank amateur and even gave him the shoe horn for his foot in mouth.... The Tories themselves proposed NATO help Pakistan with security in 2006. The Liberals didn't climb all over O'Connor for saying this. The media certainly did though. They raised the same provocative statement that it was about invading Pakistan. O'Connor certainly had his share of problems in regards to a lot of other issues but I happened to agree with him on this one. http://www.ctv.ca/servlet/ArticleNews/stor...me=&no_ads= Defence Minister Gordon O'Connor has denied suggesting Canadian troops should be stationed in Pakistan, claiming his comments were misunderstood."Media reports today have misreported comments I made while visiting with the government of Pakistan," said O'Connor in a press release issued Saturday. "At no time did I advocate, suggest or imply I favoured stand-alone Canadian troop deployment in Pakistan." O'Connor spoke with military officials in Pakistan during a trip to the region, and later summed up the meetings with a reporter from The Associated Press of Pakistan. During the interview, he allegedly said he wanted Canadian soldiers in the country. "Among other things, I suggested that some Pakistan officers be stationed with our troops in Kandahar and Canadian troops be stationed on the Pakistan side," the Globe and Mail quoted him as saying. "This will assist in information gathering and intelligence sharing on both sides of the border." But O'Connor said the quote was taken out of context and he did not condone the deployment of troops in Pakistan. "What I said was that Canada needs to engage with Pakistan as part of our security and reconstruction mission in Afghanistan," said O'Connor. Where were all the Tory supporters here when O'Connor made that remark? They were backing the man 100%. Edited January 21, 2008 by jdobbin Quote

Liberals hounded O'Connor day and night over a series of his "mis-communications". I felt sorry for the old fellow but he just wasn't cut out to be a politician. Dion should fare a bit better - he's younger and fairly bright - but he will have to pay the price for his inexperience - as he's doing now. Learning Foreign Affairs and diplomacy on the fly is not easy and his shallow, Johnny-come-lately comments on Afghanistan are telling - as shown by his one-on-one with Peter Mansbridge. Take a peek at it, if you haven't seen it already: I've always said that Dion is not a great speaker in any language in terms of being clear, concise and not sounding defensive. He is much like Harper in that regard back in 2004 and early 2005. Some would say that in 2003 on the issue of Iraq that Harper wasn't fit to be a leader. On that issue, it is hard to say that Harper was being misinterpreted when he said under a Tory government, Canada would be in Iraq. I never made an issue in regards to what O'Connor said in regards to Pakistan and neither did the Liberals on that particular issue. O'Connor went down because he mislead the House on the issue of detainees not on what he said about Pakistan. I have seen the interview. It confirms that he can't speak without being defensive. He certainly didn't talk about invading Pakistan like hysterical media and Tory reports claimed. Edited January 21, 2008 by jdobbin Quote

bush_cheney2004 Posted January 22, 2008 Report Posted January 22, 2008 Let`s not forget what Bush said, that he would go into countries that haboured terrorists, so what is he waiting for? Nothing...US forces have already been into Pakistan..beyond just "hot pursuit". What is Mr. Dion waiting for (besides ruling party)? His mouth is writing checks he sure as hell can't cash.
