Read The End of Food by Thomas Pawlick Even without methyl iodide soil is not as fertile as it once was thanks to various chemical fertilizers, pesticides, over planting, etc. The nutritional value of almost any food we eat now is not what it used to be and not what we need it to be. Organic produce is gaining popularity very quickly because we don't want to eat chemicals and pesticides but how much more nutritional is it? Problem is, tests have shown that people who eat organic foods have just as many toxins in them as people who don't. Probably has more to do with where you live than what you eat. We're hooped. bush_cheney2004
So what you get is beautiful strawberries with no nutritional value. Actually, the strawberries are fine. Consumers who don't want strawberries from fumigated soil can seek true love elsewhere. I don't like chicken crap on my eggs either, so I encourage their cleaning before market.
