Israel, Canada sign security accord

In a further step toward security cooperation between Canada and Israel, Public Security Minister Avi Dichter met Monday in Toronto with his Canadian counterpart, Minister of Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness Stockwell Day. Following the meeting, Dichter and Day announced that they would accelerate negotiations toward the signing of a mutual cooperation agreement on homeland security.

Really?

to futher ostracize and isolate the ME muslim/arabs.

why else?

Insults are the ammunition of the unintelligent - do not use them. It is okay to criticize a policy, decision, action or comment. Such criticism is part of healthy debate. It is not okay to criticize a person's character or directly insult them, regardless of their position or actions. Derogatory terms such as "loser", "idiot", etc are not permitted unless the context clearly implies that it is not serious. Rule of thumb: Play the ball, not the person (i.e. tackle the argument, not the person making it).

For the same reason we would co-operate with any civilized country on issues of mutual security.

Good news indeed, Israel is an ally of Canada why wouldn't we support her.

The peaceniks can expounge their displeasure next year when they attend YET another conference in Egypt, yep the peaceniks and the commies supped with terrorist organizations. They have no shame apparently.

Wilber yours is the only response worth replying to. Thank you.

I see your point and realise that co-operation between lands is beneficial at times - providing of course it is in the best interests of all parties involved.

I am not sure that is the case with Israel wrt security (read military) issues. I do not see any benefit to Canadian interests in formalising any kind of security accord with the current Israeli Administration. If someone can enlighten me as to why we would need to have an official accord for simply co-operating (which we do now, and have for many decades) then I will consider changing my mind. I highly doubt there are any really good reasons to do such a thing. Co-operation and sharing amongst security and military already occurs when the need requires it - on a case by case basis- as it should.

Also, what sorts of promises is our government giving to Israel under such an accord? Will it be binding in a case of war? What if the majority of Canadians do not agree with the reason for such a war? A good example of this might be Lebanon 1 and 2. What are we really signing off on? Why has this sort of national security issue not been public knowledge?

Just things to think about. Keep in mind. Canadian Interests...
