jdobbin Posted October 15, 2007 Report Posted October 15, 2007 http://www.ctv.ca/servlet/ArticleNews/stor...?hub=TopStories A Conservative riding association in northern Nova Scotia is defying Stephen Harper and standing behind renegade MP Bill Casey, leaving the prime minister with the choice to either reverse course or brush aside the wishes of local Tories.Harper has said Casey, who was booted from the Conservative caucus in June for voting against the federal budget because of changes to the equalization formula, would not be allowed to run for the party in the next federal election. But the Cumberland-Colchester-Musquodoboit Valley riding association's board voted Sunday to reinforce Casey's nomination, putting the longtime MP's future as a Conservative candidate back in Harper's hands. "There is a democratic process in place, they nominated me once, they reinforced that tonight," Casey said in an interview following riding association's two-hour meeting in Truro, N.S. "If (Harper) believes in the democratic process, then that decision will hold." Casey and riding association president Scott Armstrong acknowledged that Harper has the final say on candidate nominations, but they remained hopeful the prime minister would change his mind. I wonder what Harper will do with the local association. Quote

Well the average voter doesn't care too much about the east coast. They view them as a group of people who refuse to work always have thier hand out begging for money. I doubt any damage will be done. Quote ---- Charles Anthony banned me for 30 days on April 28 for 'obnoxious libel' when I suggested Jack Layton took part in illegal activities in a message parlor. Claiming a politician took part in illegal activity is not rightful cause for banning and is what is discussed here almost daily in one capacity or another. Michael Bluth Posted October 15, 2007 Report Posted October 15, 2007 Imagine that. An MP stacks his board with friends and cronies. When it comes down to it only very, very, very dumb MPs don't do that. All this article tells us is that Casey isn't very, very, very dumb. He is just a wild card. Not welcome as a Conservative MP. The National Council will step in. Harper won't have to bother dealing with the issue. His nomination papers won't be signed. Topaz Posted October 15, 2007 Report Posted October 15, 2007 Well the average voter doesn't care too much about the east coast. They view them as a group of people who refuse to work always have thier hand out begging for money.I doubt any damage will be done. Gee, that sounds like what Harper said a few years back!! Which by the way, isn't true and if you believe that why not go their and see how the condition there are! Quote
fellowtraveller Posted October 15, 2007 Report Posted October 15, 2007 Harper is just following the lead of the Liberals and NDP. He doesn't give a stuff what the riding association does or says. Remeber Bev Desjarlais! Quote The government should do something.
Moxie Posted October 16, 2007 Report Posted October 16, 2007 Gee, that sounds like what Harper said a few years back!! Which by the way, isn't true and if you believe that why not go their and see how the condition there are! Topaz geographical bigotry is alive and well in Canada from those that have never left the GTO area. I take their insults with a grain of salt. Casey was asked by those that ELECTED him to vote against the budget and he did, Harper is a dictator and a bully. His only saving grace is the liberals are so screwed up they can't get elected if they offer free booze to the red necks out west or the weak lame and stupid in Torona. Casey did what he was elected to do, and Harper the Hun of Canadastan is punishing those that don't blindly follow him like M. David. It's sad to see someone so entrenched into political ethos that decency, honour and commitment to those that elect you is cause for geographical slurs like Mike David. Another personal attack by someone who has never left his safe zone of ten square miles. Steven Harper is not good for this country, the PC party is. His Borg mentality will be his undoing. I will enjoy watching Mr. No personality wilt on the vine. Oh and he signed a legal document that he had no intention of honouring. Cons, cough cough how is he different from the liberals. He lied, he signed a binding legal agreement and then he reneged and said sue me if you don't like it. Arrogance abounds with Steven Harper. I don't trust him, and I shant vote for his party Prov. or Federally. Once a liar always a liar, I learned that from the Liberals. When a rat or a cow can run in this country I shall vote again, until then the left and right are not an option. old_bold&cold Posted October 16, 2007 Report Posted October 16, 2007 Harper can not stop Casey from running, but he can stop him running under the CPC banner if he wishes. I do not see him having to do any of this as there are many lower levels that can just toss Casey from running for the CPC, before it gets to Harper. I think if it were to go that high up Casey may well be allowed to run for CPC. but he would never even be consideed for anything more then a place holder inthe party. He would have to really go beyond the expected to once again be given a chance to be back where all was forgiven, but I would think that is how it should be. Quote
