And he has brought peace and love to Chechnya.........clamped down hard on political disent, stymied democracy and reform, working to re-start the cold war.......re-start the arms race

Hmm perhaps the US via the NED and other aid agencies , should stop backing Chechnyan "rebels" in order to destabalize Russia?

Putin has worked hard to restart the cold-war?

That's rich!

yeah it was Putin that said he was putting star wars in Canada right?

Insults are the ammunition of the unintelligent - do not use them. It is okay to criticize a policy, decision, action or comment. Such criticism is part of healthy debate. It is not okay to criticize a person's character or directly insult them, regardless of their position or actions. Derogatory terms such as "loser", "idiot", etc are not permitted unless the context clearly implies that it is not serious. Rule of thumb: Play the ball, not the person (i.e. tackle the argument, not the person making it).

I see no reason to read 5 pages of what in all probability doesn't support your claim. Perhaps you would be so kind as to indictae where it says the US is backing the Chechnyans?

Then, shortly after the negotiations broke down, Washington got word that Akhmadov's life was in danger. "A message was passed on to him by outside channels that he could no longer stay in Baku," says the Jamestown Foundation's Howard. "That he would probably be handed over to the Russians." Akhmadov, his U.S. supporters urged, should seek sanctuary in America. He had enough friends in high places in Washington to all but guarantee him a fair hearing with U.S. immigration judges.

How is it washington got word?

""A message was passed on to him by outside channels that he could no longer stay in Baku,"

who passed the message to the Chechynan "freedom fighter" that he couldn't stay in Baku?

had he been compromised in some way?

and "That he would probably be handed over to the Russians."

How was he informed of this, and by whom?

"Akhmadov, his U.S. supporters urged, should seek sanctuary in America."

His US supporter? A chechnyn rebel/freedom fighter

How did he come to have US supporters??

He had enough friends in high places in Washington

"Fortunately for Akhmadov, another benefactor, Max Kampelman, a former chief arms negotiator for Ronald Reagan and a counselor to the State Department"

friends in the State Dept, well why not!

I wonder how many chechnyans have friends in high places in washington?

But he did!

So did that other terrorist, the one that terrorized Cuba/Cubans.

So in other words you have nothing to show that the US is backing Chechyan rebels.....? You do know what backing means? Do you?

I see, so the US aiding a chechyan rebel, getting him out of Russia, and fast-tracking him for citizenship, putting him up in an apt, paid for by taxpayers, is not an indicator of the US backing for at least one chechyan rebel???

I guess the US did that all out of the "goodness of their hearts"?

He been in exile since the russian invaded Chechnya. But do your best to explain how granting asylum to one parliamentarian equal support for the Chechan rebels with the goal to destabilize Russia

After that explain why the UN, The European Parliament and others gave him a platform for calling for human rights in Chechnya....are they too backing the rebels?

NOOOOO!!! Not the Sandanistas. They good. Not bad. They victim of American pig-dog imperialism and counter-revolutionary kulaks from coasts. Their harbour mined long time.
