There are those who are attracted to Islam for its claims to strong morality. It's ironic that many who do are from the left side of the spectrum, opposed in every way to the same message when it comes from Christian lips, but be that as it may, Islam does find fertile ground in some quarters.

I would argue, along with many others, that it's because our society has forgotten 'liberty' and adopted a twisted concept we misname "freedom." We've drifted toward hedonism, the scourge of late empires, and forgotten that liberty involves responsibility and a certain spirit of charity and stoic self-denial. As late as 40 years ago western society was firmly entrenched in that concept of responsible liberty, but decades of ridicule and id worship, not to mention the atomization of society to accomodate multiculturalism, have taken their toll.

Our current concept of "freedom" verges toward nihilism and moral anarchy, each moral absolute relegated to a comparison towards some other moral absolute and each found equally valid, not by virtue of any merit, but by virtue of pragmatic "compromise." That I suppose is why we pretend, tongue in cheek, that stoneage "native healers" are in some way equal to modern doctors, even though no sane person would pick the former over the latter when the moment of truth comes. It's why we worship peace for peace's sake regardless of the terms, and why we look so hard to find equal validity between a dark 7th century Asiatic barbarism and the shining beacon of the European Reformation and subsequent Enlightenment.

I can just feel the gnashing of teeth from the left, right now, demanding how I DARE call one better than the other. And that's my point. To those of you who are outraged by now and hammering on the 'report' button to complain about my "racism", you might as well stop reading, because you won't even understand what follows, much less agree with it.

But yet most of us want to defend freedom against barbarism, no matter how twisted a concept it has become. But how well can we do that when we embrace specticals like this in San Francisco, allegedly attended by 400,000 people and hardly mentioned in the media? Are we supposed to hold this aloft as the "freedom" we want to preserve? It makes me sick...not that people have the "right" to do it, because that right is I believe an essential component of liberty as well, but because we celebrate this kind of thing as a sort of icon of what we consider to be "freedom" these days. Caution, pictures not for the weak bowelled. Contains nudity, and not the pretty kind Perhaps because of that media celebration...the "they're just like us" crowd...no major media outlet spent any amount of time reporting this disgusting display, and it's no wonder. Is this what our fathers died in WW II to preserve? Is what what our kids are fighting for in Afghanistan? Is this what we're fighting to preserve?

you shouldn't attend events like that one if you do not wish to. If there are people who do want to attend them... oh well.

I have seen some photo pages of pre katrina mardi gras nights taht make the average gay pride day look positively prudish.

They are indicative of mostly nothing other than our voyeuristic tendancies.

So are you saying that major media outlets should cover what is in fact a local event aimed at a minor sub culture or underground culture? With everthing that happens every day, how much ink should a local event get internationally?

But if they did cover it, what would that imply?

Payton and others bedecked in leather - or in many cases, nothing at all - were the stars of Sunday's 24th annual Folsom Street Fair. The San Francisco rite is a celebration of leather culture and sexual fetishism, and draws not only those who enjoy the lifestyle, but also those who enjoy gawking at them

Right-wing groups called for San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom to shut down the Folsom Street Fair, called for a boycott Miller Brewing Company, and were behind an airplane that circled last Sunday's leather festival towing an anti-gay banner.
MILWAUKEE - Miller Brewing Co. is being boycotted by the Catholic League, a religious civil rights organization, for sponsoring a San Francisco street fair to be held this weekend that goes by the nickname "the grand daddy of all leather events."

You're just not getting this, are you?

I'm not sure. What is there to get? There was a party that featured unabashed displays of homosexual masculinity and sexuality? Oh good gracious!

Hmmm...looked like everyone there had fun . I doubt anyone was forced to go.

Imagine the hand jerking by the closet catholic gays when they published the pictures.....a collective "thank God" probably went up.

Throw all the Catholics out, they dont want any one to have fun . OK ok ...let 'em stay , but remind them a glass house .....

Aren't you one of the ones on the "racism" wagon when Islam gets the same treatment?

Didn't the Greeks and Romans also engage in some pretty "disgusting" activities. Are we to believe that this is the sole reason for why they are no longer great.

They are just like us, and when I say that I mean they are human beings.

Is this what our fathers died in WW II to preserve?

Didn't homosexuals also fight in World War 2, and some believe that was the start of homosexuals beginning to organize due to the fact they met people just like them. I don't have a source at the moment, however I'll attempt to find one later on.

BTW: Hitler also hated the homosexuals ScottSA.

Is what what our kids are fighting for in Afghanistan?

They're fighting for your right to constantly spew BS. Unfortunately for you their are also homosexuals in the Canadian military, I've known a few since I joined up and have absolutely no problem with what they do on their own time. If anything the activities that some heterosexuals have engaged in are more offensive.

Is this what we're fighting to preserve?

Stop invoking the deaths of troops over in Afghanistan to validate your homophobia. Nobody is forcing you to take part in the San Francisco gay pride parade.

I'm going to take one snippet from your post to reply to because, CB, you are simply over your head in every conversation you stumble into and I have no interest in talking to you.

Hitler wore black shoes. Do you have black shoes? What's your point? No, wait, don't answer that. I don't care.

You're right. No one has yet been so explicit and disgusting when talking about Islam.

Muslims choke the chicken too.

Are you kept up at night also worrying about harmless gays from a gay rally?

Explicit and disgusting?, wow....stretching huh?

Tylenol PM offer still stands.

No, I simply find it ironic that you bring up the memory or World War 2 veterans to showcase your homophobia despite the fact Hitler also largely targeted homosexuals.

You have no interest in talking to me because you can't come up with a semi-adequate response, as has been the case with any post which disagrees with your point of view.
