  1. blahblahblah

I noticed you've switched from blue script to red script. Does that mean you're "going negative"?

Nothing to say about the argument.... cat's got your tongue... or are you too awestruck by all the pretty colours.... If so, here's another one that I don't think he added enough colour to....
    Stephen Harper Quotes:

Human rights commissions, as they are evolving, are an attack on our fundamental freedoms and the basic existence of a democratic society... It is in fact totalitarianism. I find this is very scary stuff.

    Now that's scary....
It's not really news. Our friend "onlythetruth" posted all of this months ago, shortly before he was abducted by the Star Angels for rectal probing.
I find the CPC type's fascination with genetalia, rectums, child-porn, homosexuals, and other such topics .... well... very interesting....
  2. Well - clearly Harper's Day care plan is not sitting well with many moms... another reason not to pick him as leader.

First, what a wonderful post (the starter), but on this account you are totally wrong.....

You give Harper way too much credit. He does not have a "day care" plan... he's offering a child tax credit. Further, he's planning to dismember what the Liberals have started with respect to implementation of a real day-care plan, so realistically, Harper's plan is and anti-daycare plan.

  3. Jack Layton was somehow trying to say that his policy is different, but different in what exactly?

He tried to take credit for the NDP in pushing for the National Childcare....so that means with NDP, National Childcare it is. We know what Conservatives will do.

His healthcare plans promises to cut the waiting list, so does the Liberals....but how exactly? He was busy pointing out how Harper is trying to put a two-tiered plan, instead of explaining how NDP will actually improve the situation.

I, as a viewer, understood perfectly what Harper laid out was nothing like the two-tiered interpretation of Layton. I wanted to hear a laid out plan...not just a sweeping statement. If he did actually spelled out how he'll imrpove Healthcare, I must've missed it somehow.

This is actually one of the primary reasons that we're having the election earlier than Martin's promised date. There is a fundamental difference between the NDP and Liberals, but let's deal with the difference between the Harper and these two first... In the first debate (en Francais), Harper actually said "I don't care if the healthcare is privately or publicly delivered".... These words came out of his mouth. He said that Canadians should pay for it (through their taxes) whether it's delivered publicly or privately. I don't think that I need to go into the cost difference between "for profit" and "non-profit" delivery.... especially when it would require the same bureaucracy for the implementation of insurance....

The fundamental difference between the Paul Martin's position and Jack Laytons is this.... Paul Martin doesn't mind paying for private delivery, but won't say it out loud. The removal of support for the Liberal government by the NDP was specifically about this. The NDP asked for a guarantee that all of the new money to "fix the system" to improve speed of delivery be spent on fixing the public system. Paul Martin said OK, but we won't include the $40 Billion that we agreed to provide for the speedup of delivery in this promise...

Effectively, Paul Martin would allow much of the money slotted for "fixing the bus" to be used for "limosine rentals".... leaving less money to "fix the bus".... Effectively, Harper is more honest than Martin about allowing our heath-care system to deteriorate, and give public money to corporate interests... rather than ensuring it goes to providing healthcare.....

BTW, one of them mentioned about getting the doctors (immigrants) to be able to do their practice in Canada without going through all the bureacracy and red tape. Anyone remember who said this? It's either Harper (which I think it is) or Layton. Please correct me if I'm wrong.
    Layton.
Harper laid out a plan that medicare will still pay for those essential treatments that are taken to private facilities. I like the practicality of that! A person in pain have a way to get treatment right away. A person who gets treated faster can go back to the workforce asap!
That's how the system currently works... Much of the degradation of our health-care system is due to Paul Martin's removal of funding for it so that the deficit could be paid off faster..... The new $40 Billion was to speed up delivery... The NDP wants that money to fix the system by investing in it... rather than giving it to private corporate interests.... Harper's plan appears to be the acceleration of degradation of the system....
Then there is the GST. Harper's plan is attainable and believable. I don't recall NDP's plan for GST.
Paul Martin promised drops in personal taxes, dropping it a percentage point for the poorer Canadians .... and an increase in the basic personal exemption.... Which Harper says he will undo.....

The NDP actually has the best plans for those with children. In fact, a large percentage of the NDP's new spending is on --- a real Childcare program (rather than just a minor tax cut), and a huge increase in the Child Tax Credit....

So when it comes to actual change, the choice is actually Conservatives or NDP/Liberal.

But of course, this is not taking into consideration the track of records of the Liberals when it comes to corruptions and all the billions wasted on non-effective "Band-aid" approach on fixing problems.

For a lot of voters out there, the choice now is between Conservatives and NDP.

If you really want to go on records, Paul Martin slayed the deficit... the "biggest problem for Canada" according to the Progressive Conservative party (Brian Mulroney's party, not the new Reform Party with the borrowed name)
  4. I have suspected that the Liberals had a "mole" in the 2004 Conservative campaign and this made Harper's work then much more difficult. (I have no evidence but I think Harper's major staff changes were related to this.)

They quit and left him because of a mole ???? I thought it was because Harper was a <series of derrogatory words omitted, but rest assured, the last word was a piece of human anatomy>

The Liberals are evil...err you are an NDP voter...sure you cannot put this past them???

I'm not a big fan of Paul Martin's because he is a Conservative. He is a fiscal conservative who showed that he could kill the deficit that Mulroney couldn't touch... He achieved the ultimat Conservative goals (Mulroney et al's) He cuts taxes for Corp Canada, and cuts services to Canadian citizens to pay for it. He is one of the biggest killers of medicare ever in Canadian history....

That being said, I'd take him over Harper any day. As severe as Martin's cuts to medicare were, Harper said they weren't deep enough cuts. The CPC party, along with their moral agendas scare the shit out of me.... Just because they've kept some of the more ignorant redneck candidates to keep their mouths shut during this campaign.... We've seen what they stand for...... And just because there's no noise coming from with the Trojan horse, it's still a Trojan horse to me....

It is improbable that the NDP will form the next government.... highly improbable... However, I would like to see strong support for them, because Liberal governments where the NDP has the balance of power has brought in many of the best things that we can say about our Canadian society ... health care... old age pensions, unemployment insurance... the humanity of our society....

And thus, I have to hope that people will not strategically vote... but vote for what they know to be best for themselves and the people they care about.... In the last federal election, strategic voting put Liberal candidates in several ridings (up to 10) that narrowly beat NDP candidates.... In the last Ontario provincial election, the NDP was nearly wiped out by strategic voting.... people desperate to get rid of Mike Harris, the PC incumbant who destroyed much of the social fabric of Ontario....

Vote NDP if you care about health care, daycare, helping the poor, the unemployed.... because who knows.... any of us could end up needing these services in the future...

and if you really want to use "moral" Christian values to guide you, you'll remember Jesus's prime commandment: Do unto others.... ... so let's fix the health care system (rather than thinking me, me, me, and my tax dollar).... let's help provide subsidized housing for the poor, let's help in the poorer sections of the cities to help provide promise and hope, rather than having the youth turn to crime.... Jesus said "Give up all your worldly goods and follow me..." which is the exact opposite of the ultra right.... Jesus was a lefty.....

Most people don't really know much about Tommy Douglas, but knowing about him might just help understand true "Christian values". Douglas was a Baptist minister during the depression... He got interested in politics because he spent too much time burying people who would have survived had they afforded a few dollars worth of health care. The Baptist Church made Tommy Douglas choose.... The Church or politics... Tommy Douglas saw that politicians weren't interested in helping the poor and suffering during the depression. He chose politics because he could save more lives and help more people if he brough health care and other forms of relief to them that the Liberals and Conservatives refused to... It was his moral values that drove him to form/run for the CCF (NDP).... However, the kinds of religious morals of Tommy Douglas are obviously different from Harper's supposed "moral values"...

Douglas's moral values drove him to help people.. he fought tooth and nail against both the Liberals and Conservatives to implement policies like health care.... Harper's moral values are about stopping gay people from calling themselves "married", and from stopping unwed girls from having abortions. Who is that helping..... Harper's "Pecksniffian" morals are not about helping people....

So let's keep the Trojan horse outside the gate....

  5. The missile defense plan is terrible. Yet, if we don't participate in it we only surrender our sovereignty.

That's an illusion tml12. How is having a bunch of useless American missiles on Canadian soil protecting our sovereignty???? At best they would ensure that Canada becomes a prime target in any nuclear war.

A “Defense Shield” sounds appealing, but many experts doubt that it will work. Recent studies by The US General Accounting Office, The American Physical Society, The Union of Concerned Scientists and former Pentagon weapons experts, all suggest that the system is similar to trying to hit a bullet with a bullet. In its current state of development, the defense shield is incapable of stopping missile that are sophisticated enough to hit the United States. The project will also start a new arms race, thwarting future developments.

It's funny that they suspended testing after Raytheon's last anti-missile test .... missed the target by more than a mile.... So rather than having embarrassing situations like this reported, which could eventually lead to a cancellation of the work, the testing stopped.... so the funding wouldn't... funny eh ?

  6. Politicians change policies over time as circumstances require.

Like last election... standing for moral values....

We're going to stop abortions.... which got a negative reception, so days later it became:

We're not going to introduce a bill to ban abortions, but if one of our members introduces a private member's bill, we'll vote on it.... which also got a very negative reception, so days later, it changed to:

We're not going to ban abortions...

The "as circumstances require" bit you refer to is probably with respect to "getting elected", not the public's interest of values..... because if you get elected, you can force your values on the public.... but don't talk about them before the election.....

  7. The CBC has one agenda: Liberal dictatorial government and that is it...

I'd give them more credit than that, though the real reason is totally crass.

They have one agenda, and that is to survive. They know that sooner or later any fiscally responsible government is going to look at the riduclous $1 billion they get annually in subsidies and say: no more.

Much more likely to happen with the Tories than the Libs.

And much more likely to cut a whole lot of other things that they aren't talking about (before the election)...... It's good to see that at least one of you CPC supporters acknowledges their "secret agenda"....
  8. Don't worry...I am sure the Liberals will BUY this election with YOUR money. If it wasn't mine too I wouldn't much care about you having to live under the one-party Liberal Fascist state you obviously adore.

In the past day you've called the Liberals both Facists and Communists. These parties have diametrically opposing viewpoints. This clearly demonstrates your knowledge of politics.... <_<

  9. Chretien had interests in Iraqi oil as Montgomery Burns has factually reported in the past.
Montgomery Burns factual reports about WMDs in Iraq .... as likely as Yogi Bear's factual scientific discovery of new planets !!!!!
His prime ministerial life was ending soon too. Thus, Chretien officially did not support the war.
Does that explain his position in the first war too ????
  10. And the fact the Liberal Party consistently gets most of its donations from big corporate entities while the Conservatives get most of their donations in small amounts from middle class people is beside the point.
Nice invention Argus... Have you ever really read anything about party donations ??? The Cons are the ones with the budget.... in fact, about 10 x the donations that the Liberals received last year. However, the election poll did not reflect a similar statistic, leaving one to wonder about the sources of funding..... <_<
  12. [.... When you can adjust your convictions you become a liar....

Sorry, I don't agree. As an example 10 years ago I fully supported capital punishment. Now I don't. It's a topic I debated with different people and pondered every side of the argument. I concluded that in our civilized society, capital punishment is not an acceptable alternative. I see that as a personal evolution and do not view myself as a hypocrite or a liar. To state categorically that because an individual or group has changed their position after reasoned debate is to say the least unfair.

Well stated, and I should not have generalized so broadly... However in the case of the CPC, I will contend that the CPC's social agenda appears to have more weight than their fiscal agenda. I qualify this with the fact that Harper came our sounding like a fiscal Liberal (to sound different from Paul Martin who is a fiscal Conservative, except when he is desperate to get elected).... And they've all but buried their social agenda.... a wolf in granny's dress is still a wolf....
To suggest that in any party there are not extreme members is false and if you support the NDP you know that's true. What emerges is generally a more moderate stance that embraces common beliefs. The Conservatives have finally accomplished that as well.
It appears that they have learned to hide their true agenda to get elected. From Harper's history of extreme right-wing stances, his slurs of Canadians in speeches to the Republican party, his two-faced stance on SSM, his thrice changing his position on abortion (last campaign), I would think that my sense of reality would have to wharp considerably before I could accept that Harper's current positions are not a facade.... this is not a granny, but a wolf in granny's dress.....
A common complaint I hear from Liberals is the leadership has distanced themselves from the grassroots starting under Chretien and continuing under Martin. That's why they're in the predicament they're in now.
(Chretian had a Conservative Finance Minister... Paul Martin)
  13. I really hate to resort to any mudslinging, though when someone's defense of the current situation (a government under investigation by the RCMP), is calling the opposition leader a social retard, it just becomes so tempting.
Oh, come on... you CPC types have a hard time holding it back, so let's hear it.....
Remember, Martin is the one that had the Americans fusing after lecturing them on the environment, when his party has been a complete and utter failure on the issue. As far as I know, being a hypocrit is about the least socially acceptable thing you could do.
Let them fume.... they like fumes... Bush said he didn't want to do anything about the impending crisis because it would "wreck our economy" to try to do something...
Carrolyn Parrish stepped on a doll of Geroge Bush.
As a joke on TV... perhaps she should have restrained herself to uttering comments like "What an idiot..." that pretty much the whole world would agree with...
How many Liberals have been caught utter anti-American remarks.
Many well placed.... and I'm sure some of the were over the line....
So please, because Harper didn't shake Duceppes hand, we shouldn't vote for him? Yet we should vote for the Party with a huge record of public disrespect?
I guess the CPC's disrespect for homosexuals, blacks, single mothers, and the poor isn't a negative thing ???

Let's not forget Harper's speech on the world stage about how stupid Canadian are... I guess they'd prove him correct if they elected him....

  14. It is given that the Conservatives are winning the campaign at this point. Give credit to their disciplined, policy-driven campaign. Blame the Liberals unfocused, lackluster effort. Here and now they are winning.
It's a good thing they've got some of the real rednecks to keep quiet about the "freaken pervert homos", and the "free abortions for welfare bums", and "child porn is promoted by Liberals" type statements....

They've successfully backed off of what they once described as "convictions" relating to abortion and same-sex-marriage.... When you can adjust your convictions you become a liar....

  15. Lets consider health care:

Harper: (French language debate)  We don't care if it is publicly or privately delivered, as long as it is delivered.

Martin: (Pre debates) Refused to agree to NDP demands that new monies (over $40 Billion) to speed up delivery of health care be spent in the PUBLIC system.  ... (hence the withdrawl of NDP support)

Layton: (from the beginning) Financially support PUBLIC health care.  Public monies should only go to private delivery when it is the only possible method of delivery.

Canada already has private healthcare and a full two-tier system. There is no realistic chance for an NDP government. Our best doctors are going to the States.

What are you proposing should be done err?

Canada may have some private health care. However, the direction that the NDP party, (the party that had to fight the Conservatives (when that's what they were) and the Liberals to get health care for Canadians) would have health care go is the way that the Canada Health Act specifies it has to go.... PUBLIC FUNDS only for PUBLIC DELIVERY.

The NDP would not try to stop private health care.... just having taxpayers money pay for private health care. If rich people want to pay the full shot for private services that are publicly available... then let them.... The only way that public funds should go to 'for profit' companies is when the public system cannot deliver the service in a timely fashion.

The big idea is to fix the problems, not allow 'for profit' companies to pick our pockets.

Canada does not yet have the two-tier system that Harper wants (from French language debate).

The reason we are having this election now is because the NDP withdrew support for the government.... specifically because Paul Martin would not guarantee that the $40 Billion injection into our health care system to make it more responsive would be spent in the PUBLIC system.... fixing the problems.... rather that pissing it away on 'for profit' entities....

A solution for truly fixing our health care is to vote NDP.

  16. In answer to the original question it could best be summed up like this:

    NDP, ideological left: ....

    Liberal, practical center:.....

    Conservatives, ideological right: ......

    Yaro,

Grow up your post makes no sense other than to highlight your huge pro-Liberal bias.

Enough is enough. If you want to debate the issues fine. If not, then just grow up...

Really, your descriptions are just partisan pandering...

One has to wonder if you even read Yaro's response.... or understood the words with more than two sylables..... It was a very good response, even though I thought it was unfair to the NDP with the deficit comments, and was much more generous to the CPC than I would have recommended....

  17. Ahhh, there is the rub. The Liberals are so desperate to paint Harper as a *bad guy* they have to resort to out and out lying.

Harper did shake Duceppe's hand after the debate. The Liberals, when originally trying to make an issue of this, even admitted as much. As their campaign grows more and more desperate the lies become bigger and more bald-faced.

Tick tock Mr. Dithers. 18 more days and counting...

Well, when they're all supposed to get together and shake hands before the debate, and Harper pulls his hand away every time Duceppe tries to offer his..... It shows that Harper is too immature to act as a statesman on front of a crowd...

Did you not see the video of Harper pulling his hands away... Whether or not Harper did shake Duceppe's hand AFTER the debate, he wouldn't do it on camera... We certainly shouldn't put a social retard like Harper as Canada's top man.....

  18. Statesmanship:

Harper's famous speeches denouncing Canada, Canadian values, and Canadian people to the Republicans.....

Harper refusing to shake Duceppe's hand before the English language debate....

Harper accusing his adversaries of promoting child porn.... when he's out of other things to accuse them of....

Is this the kind of guy you want running your country  ?????

And Martin refusing to fly Canadian flags in his ships? Define Canadian values...

Nothing to do with statesmanship..... my point was that this guy would be an embarrassment as a leader....
Harper didn't shake Duceppe's hand.  The point is what???
Well, when they're all supposed to get together and shake hands before the debate, and Harper pulls his hand away every time Duceppe tries to offer his..... It shows that Harper is too immature to act as a statesman on front of a crowd... How about if he had to do international presentations.... and refused to shake hands with only some of the other foriegn statesmen....
The child porn thing was stupid but is long in the past...
Not that far back.... weren't the Child Porn Crusaders trying to say that the liberals supported 14 year olds having sex... just last month....

  20. The Liberals have abused their power.  They have abused taxpayer money.  I don't hate Paul Martin.  I think he is genuinely a decent person.  But I hate Chretien and his supporters and cronies.
We have to give Cretien credit for keeping us out of Iraq... Because Stephen Harper, if in power would have supported bringing lots of Canadian boys home in body bags.
The Liberal Party bought several seats in Quebec in 1997 with dirty money.  They have refused to say where they put the money.  But there is no doubt they won a majority because of it.  This scandal is unprecendented in a democratic country.  It is unscrupulous and sick.
Whereas Mulroney was smarter than that when they caught onto the Airbus scandal.... Sue the Canadian government for $50 Million to stop the investigation....
The Liberal Party does not deserve to be elected not because of Martin, but because of the culture of superiority that is prevalent in the party.  These people really believe they rule by devine right.  The Liberals don't care about Canada.
And Stephen Harper does... When his "strong convictions" about abortion can be completely dropped because it will prevent them from getting elected.... Say anything it takes to get elected seems to be the CPC way... and all you CPC candidates, "keep your mouths shut about the plans for those freakin homos..... and the welfare bums looking for free abortions"
But neither he nor successive Liberal prime ministers have done anything to really strengthen this country.  Instead, they have relied on anti-Americanism and Canada's supposed "peacekeeping and multicultural" status espoused by the old Molson Canadian commercials to keep Canada together.
And Brian Mulroney pretty much sold Canada to the USA..... If you read up on NAFTA, taxes are only a tiny bit of what it's about.... It's primarily about stripping our right to defend ourselves from being raped by Uncle Sam and the Corporate world that the neocons promote....
Too long have we had to deal with Liberal lies and corruption.  I believe there are a lot of very good and decent people in the Liberal Party of Canada.  But there is a great hatred and evil involved in the party and taxpayer's money is used without regard.
Lets start accepting CPC lies.... and they have plenty of their share of hatred too.... homosexuals, unwed mothers, unemployed, the poor, etc...

  22. What a nice word. Most political parties claim they are very sincere about one or more of their party platforms.Let's see. Okay, boys and girls.

The green party;sincere about the environment,no arguement there. The problem, wil put thousands of Canadians out of work.

Many environmental groups rated the NDP as "greener than the Greens" last time...
The Conservatives;sincere about lower taxes, getting tough on crime, free votes within the commons, choice for parents to choose the way they raise their children, tougher gun laws.Just a small list of their many positive options they are proposing to Canadian voters, many of which I could support.
Liberals tax cut offer was bigger than the Cons...

Free votes means they don't want to put foreward their real party position, and voters should know the position of a party on all major issues...

Choice for parents of what to do with $25 since it won't even pay for one day of daycare... (not a daycare program)... Won't even create one daycare space... So one of the choices he doesn't offer is affordable daycare.....

Tougher gun laws ??? They want to get rid of the gun registry (that Harper voted in favour of in the first place), and think people should be able to carry handguns ??? that's tougher gun laws ????

Would have had Canadian boys dying in Iraq to secure Oil for Exxon and Haliburton....

Harper supports private, parallel medical delivery... he said so in the French language debate....

The Liberals;from what I can garner from their present campaign, more sincere actions  of the last decade, broken promises, lies, deception and corruption.
Eliminated our huge deficit. Kept us from counting bodybags full of Canadian boys being shipped back from Iraq.
The ndp;sincere about more social programs, but looking back at what their party platform did for Ontario during the Rae Days, their cause is one we simply can not afford.
If you consider the general economic climate in North America when Rae came into power, and performed an honest consideration of all of the facts, you'd probably arrive at a different assessment of his government. He could have been a Tory and fired thousands of civil servants... but NONE lost their jobs due to Bob Rae, even though the economic climate (all over North America) was dismal... Many sacrificed a bit... but nobody was sacrificed.... I take my hat off to Bob Rae...
