Religious Schools - A Form of Child Abuse?
I Miss Trudeau replied to bigdude's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
You know, from the perspective of the child, the parents could be analogous to the state in this regard. -
More Lies By Dishonest Harper?
I Miss Trudeau replied to bigdude's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Or who you can marry... Really, which party in Canadian politics wants the most governmental control? Listen to the rhetoric coming from the Cons on SSM, and you begin to get the impression that the marketis the only thing they want to be free. It ought to be illegal to verbally abuse anyone. But I suppose in the Conservative mind, those sinners aren't entitled to personhood to begin with. -
Religious Schools - A Form of Child Abuse?
I Miss Trudeau replied to bigdude's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
A fully self critical examination of the this would suggest that its impossible to prevent that mind control. All we can really do is decide (in a basically "religious" way) which program to load our children with. I would personally like to see children programmed in "self critical rationalism," but my position on that really sort of prevents me from constructing an argument to support it. -

Harper's Political Career In Tatters!
I Miss Trudeau replied to bigdude's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Harper is far short of being a good leader, let alone one of Canada's greatest. He suffers from a horrible lack of charisma and maturity, not to mention credibility. I realize he'd like to wipe away his years of service to the NCC as soon as it became politically expedient to do so. Fortunatly, he can't. -
If the Liberals win the next Election...
I Miss Trudeau replied to Dan's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Naw, its probably easier to just wait outside the Legislature and roll the red necks leaving the chamber. Well, the ones that have bothered to show up, anyway. Besides, physical violence is apparently accepted as precedent there anyway. -

The fabled "engine" of separtism is nothing more than a big mouth blowing hot air. -
Conservatives Tried To Bribe Cadman
I Miss Trudeau replied to bigdude's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Thats exactly the point. It stands in stark contrast to the almost christ-like image that a siazble portion of MLW's rightwing appear to have of Harper. -
That doesn't seem likely, but you can count on Harper promising to not run a candidate against you if you get the nod from the Liberal party.

Conservatives Tried To Bribe Cadman

I wonder if this will get as much play in the "liberal media" as the accusations against the Liberals did? -
One of the greatest moments in Canadian History

And apparently rejected a bribe from that bastion of virtue and democracy, Mr. Harper himself. -
Kinda funny considering that they are always blathering about personal responsibility.

Peter MacKay's broken heart
I Miss Trudeau replied to The Terrible Sweal's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Fair enough. But he could have told them to piss off. And he could have asked his dad to not go discuss his public humiliation in front of a camera. He didn't do either. What are we to conclude? -
second reaction, now whats next ? Should harper resign, should the conservative attemp to gain back its progressive base ? Harper's inability to run a big tent party gave the victory to the Liberals. I hope Harper continues to run the party into the ground. Ultimatly, though, the party should turn on him like a pack of wolves for painting them into a corner to die in, against the wishes of the elctorate, no less. No, he should be lynched. Probably a good idea.

Did you hold a press conference the next day to cash in on your pain? Didn't think so... Edited to add: the guy is probably legitimatly upset, probably even devestated. but to call a news crew to the potato patch to cash in on it is, frankly, pathetic. -
The same sort of attack can be leveled at conservative and liberal governments, as well.

Wow, having a bad day wittle Argie?

You know, this line of thinking is going to prove to be very unhelpful to you, given that her ex-leader changed his story two or three times in a single speech just the other day.

You're kidding, right? -
It won't work, Bro. The knuckle marks left on the ground when you walk will be a giveaway.

Harper's Political Career In Tatters!
I Miss Trudeau replied to bigdude's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Harper is part of that system, but I'm sure you feel that he doesn't share any blame for the present situation. The hoopla and nonsense he has helped create on parliament hill are also irrelavent to the apathy of voters, I'm sure. The reality is that many Canadians equate our parliament with sandbox antics, an attitutde which is, sadly, accurate. Harper hasn't really raised the level of discourse up there, has he? -
If the Liberals win the next Election...
I Miss Trudeau replied to Dan's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
I lived in medium sized town Alberta for 25 years, and the results of Conservative propaganda have taken their toll on people's hearts and minds. This is now compounded by blatant Conservative oppurtunism. Liberals are mocked and derided by a small, but incredibly shrill, set of Conservative Albertans at every turn. Never before have I been so disgusted and dissatisfied with my fellow Albertans. Alas, herpes is also alive and well. Given the things that I have heard at the coffee shop, the water cooler and such, I thank that a Conservative majority would just force these people to find something new to hate, which would just piss them off even more. And before I get flamed for this observation, consider that almost half of Albertans largely agree with me. -
You know, virtually everyone I know that has gone to work the rigs has come back a little slower and a little madder. I couldn't really comment on whether that is a result of the emissions or the (very real) problem of alchol and drug abuse up there, though.
