  1. Geldof's efforts would have been better spent focusing on western complicity in African poverty via propping up regimes for their own interests. Until that problem is solved, there really is no way to move forward on the issue of international poverty. That said, there have been far worse winners of the Peace Prize than Geldof, so its not absolutely horrible.
  2. You can't seriously believe that Global, or FoxNorth, is "owned by the Liberal Party of Canada."
  3. Yeah, that is pretty intense. That said, I hope the poster that continously accuses posters of supporting the holocaust gets a good boot to the teeth, too.
  4. Could someone direct me to the offending post please? Thanks.
  5. I disagree. The Walrus is a quality Canadian magazine in the style of Harper's.
  6. 187.36? Please, oh wise one, enlighten us as to the magic number.
  7. How are you going to convince these nations to become the explicit colonial masters of these third world nations? By force? Why on earth would they do anysuch thing? Why would they choose to forego arms reach control in favor of getting their hands dirty? The current arrangement is cheaper and neater than what you propose.
  8. Not to nitpick, but if everything were pefrect, wouldn't everything have to be perfect? Thats kind of like saying "If Alberta was the best province in Canada, then there couldn't be a best province in Canda."
  9. You were actually able to read an entire Ezra Levant article? You must be on painkillers.
  10. The question is whether or not they are sufficiently different. With regards to deference to authority, I would answer in the negative. But you never did answer the question I posted to you earlier: How do you reasonably expect the province to enforce the rules they have set for child labour?
  11. Boy oh boy you struggle with self critical thought, Mr. Seinfeld.
  12. Would you offer the same argument if it were 4 year olds working at sickdonalds?
  13. Did you read my post before trying to reply to it? Evidently not.
  14. Do you ever even try to address the points raised in posts that you reply to? Or do you simply settle for inane and sarcastic remarks? If you disagree with my comment, say why.
  15. "Urban hipster" conveys far more cultural information than "french canadian," "native american," or "christian."
  16. By your criteria, I suspect that there are more homosexuals in Canada than there are Catholics in the world.
  17. Refusing to comply is far more work than Klein and his merry band of conservatives are willing to do. No, Klein will voice his disagreement publicly for a week or two, then get back to the business of fishing.
  18. You mean like pursuing a "live and let live", "no harm, no foul," "love thy neighbour" type lifestlye? Given the apparent inability of the christian right to do any of this, I suspect that it is in fact rather difficult. It forces people to be accepting, compassionate and, ultimatly, to strive to be Jesus like. Your disdain for these dominations is telling. What isn't difficult is pursuing a "my way or the hellway", "hate thy neighbour" lifestyle rampant with most of the groups that you deem sufficiently christian. Yeah. A community coming together in a postive and life affirming way is just a horrible thing to behold. You know, I would be totally, utterly and completely shocked if those in the top echelons of the Roman Catholic church had anywhere near the same level of faith (or much at all) as the average church going catholic. It is impossible to believe that after seeing the level of politics that goes into those divine edicts from the Pope, not to mention the election of the Pope, that one could be left with anything other than cynicism. I imagine the United Church isn't much different.
  19. Do you see a good reason to limit the term "cultural groups" to religious and racial groupings?
  20. In so far as a church group is operating like a business, they ought to be under the same laws and restrictions as any other business. As such, restaurants can not be "White only" and banquet halls can not be "Straight only." What usually happens to a person that refuses to do their job? They're entitled to rage against whatever they want. They're not entitled to get their way, however. Parliament, and society in general, listened to the same heavily flawed arguments over and over and over again for a long time. Any suggestion that opponents of SSM weren't involved in the debate is laughably absurd. Given the complete lack of an argument on the side of SSM opponents, and the ferocity of their shrieking, they were brought into the process to a far larger degree than they deserved. Who cares? Those who oppose same sex marriage proved that they don't give a damn about anyone elses freedom of religion. They can reap what they sowed, for all I care. The attack on religious freedom will inevitably continue on any aspect of religion that interferes with public life. Ie, your religious freedom does not enable you to tell me, or anyone else, what I can or can't do.
  21. Please, then, explain why study after study shows the exact opposite of what you claim. That is, caucasions get away with far more, and recieve far lesser sentences, than those minorities that you claim have it so good.
  22. Oh please. Until someone forces you to enter into a homosexual marriage, please spare us the overblown rhetoric about being "dominated by the minority."
  23. My post has nothing to do with the quality of your post nor anyone elses. What it does have to do with is the seething hostility toward, and outright rejection of, education and formal study that many, if not most, right wingers on this forum endorse.
  24. Whoa. Back up a minute. How did we get here: from here? Cybercoma, if you're going to respond to a post, at least try to read it first.
  25. But churches should? Even for the non-religious?
