When is it considered acceptable to throw your glass of beer in an Italian woman's face? When her mustache is on fire.
-
30 days, eh? Why those lazy, greedy bastards! Shouldn't the Republicans be insisting on a claw-back of that to bring them in line with industry norms?
-
I am quite certain that at her age and with her current political views she would either have not considered that a possibility, or would simply say she wouldn't want to work for any company which was like that. I again think we're seeing a young woman who has never known want, and has no fears about money or jobs.
-
Are you under the illusion I respect and admire politicians? I am Canadian enough, however, to strongly demand proper behaviour during public events.
-
Well, apparently PSAC has already offered her a position. Dunno, but I expect, like most of them, she'll wind up working for some NGO, or university. And I doubt trying to embarrass the tories will be a detriment to her prospects there.
-
The politicized Left doesn't believe in stuff like that. Whatever furthers the cause against 'the man' is fine by them.
-
It's fairly obvious from her recent history that her ambition is to be a political and environmental activist from the left. I don't think this will hurt her much there...
-
Actually, if you want to get technical, she did break the law. Her actions constitute contempt of parliament, and she could be arrested for it. But it's unlikely the government wants to be seen prosecuting some hapless, flighty, brainless little girl child.
-
I'm guessing she'll be running for the NDP next election.
-
What she did was to betray the trust put in her when she was hired, and explicitly understood by all.
-
Then you really have no right to complain.
-
Perhaps, but many people, in fact most people, are almost entirely ignorant about such subjects. Corporate tax cuts? Corporations don't pay taxes and never have. They simply pass those taxes on to whomever pays them as a cost of doing business. Taxing corporations is thus quite inefficient, and it hinders their using the money for expansion. If you're worried about the rich not paying then tax the rich - ie, tax the people who own the corporations when they take profits.
-
And we're to take seriously the opinion of a child who clearly doesn't understand the first thing about any of those?
-
The young are always passionate about their beliefs. Unfortunately, most of them don't have the judgement or knowledge to actually understand those beliefs. Churchill pronounced on this many years ago, as I'm sure you all are aware, and I've seen little to show him wrong.

This coming from a man who champions a nation which regularly executes anyone who disagrees with the party, and which operates slave labour camps and commits forced abortions on unwilling women.
-
Not really. It takes being someone who likes the limelight. She previously put on a 'one woman show' and had artistic ambitions prior to becoming a lefty activist. So clearly, having everyone stare at her was something she liked not feared.
-
She was a SENATE page. It's unlikely she ever heard Harper, or encountered anything more shocking then snoozing senators as she waited on them. Being a Senate Page is basically again to being a gopher for a senior who doesn't like to move much.
-
I think you should go and find your English teacher and slap him in the face, then demand the party find you a better one.
-
We absolutely are not. We have laxer labour laws, a lot less vacation, fewer holidays, and lower benefits, both in terms of what employers pay and in terms of social safety nets.
-
I think the US is the only country in the western world which does not mandate at least some paid vacation time. Canada is barely above them at 2 weeks mandated.
-
Does it make sense that the financial industry is giving out tens of billions of dollars in bonuses after it barely survived, and in the midst of a deep recession? Does it make sense that the big shots who drove companies into the ground, or nearly did, got fat bonuses? Does it make sense you never complain about that?
-
Yes, I just made it up. Google
-
And yet, all 'our peers' have mandated long vacation periods, while we have just about the shortest in the world. All our peers have a more congenial working environment for workers, too, and mandated benefits which you and others seem to feel we can't afford in Canada. Why is that?
-
Brave? She faced no danger. She sacrificed a job which she probably wasn't all that fond of and evidently didn't need. You know, my gardener brought his college age daughter to work with him today. She hasn't been able to find a summer job. I bet she'd love to have a well-paid job as a Senate Page, and I bet she wouldn't throw it out the window for a pointless gesture either. But them I'm guessing this young page had no need of money and a family well-able to support her in any way she desires. Saw her on the CBC saying Canada needed an 'arab spring' to make changes. It was gently pointed out to her that what we have in Canada are elections, and that we'd just held one. Apparently this fact eluded her.
-
In point of fact, from what I've read, those who 'choose' not to take their vacations do so mostly because of fear of losing their jobs or promotions or drawing an angry eye from above if they do.
