Precious little has caught my attention so far, but Layton's promise of a half billion to help seniors stay in their homes sounds, on the surface, like an awfully good idea. I don't know how much it would wind up growing as the senior population ages, though. And since it's an NDP plan it almost has to be fiscally irresponsible. So does anyone know where it fails? Aside from the fact he'll never be PM, that is? Ottawa Citizen

The Most Violent City In The Developed World

Doesn't appear to be! I have a kilt. Call it a skirt and die. That's how you enforce discipline! -
Maybe, but that sort of thing isn't an indication of a socially or culturally advanced people, now is it?

If they're howling savages, why can't we say we're better than them?

Why are blacks committing the most murders?

His frauds were mostly small time stuff. He failed to pay his credit card, he failed to pay a rental company on a leased car. He bounced a cheque, all while receiving psychiatric treatment for stress. And all in the past. The only allegation against him at present is that he lobbied on behalf of his girlfriend's company. And most of the people I've read seem to believe there will be no charges because nothing he did was illegal. -
Students Asked to Leave CPC rally in London

When the facebook friend IS the other leader, I think you'd be right to be suspicious of that. She is appearing in Liberal campaign commercials. I think we're safe in thinking she's a Liberal. Then all the news shows that day will show little girls being dragged kicking and screaming out the door shouting whatever they think will be the most damaging. These people aren't going to shout out insults. They're going to scream them, and blow whistles and horns and refuse to listen to anything said. That is the normal M.O. for these sorts of people. -

Maybe you should actually read the thread before posting? Just a thought. -

How do you tell when someone is going to be aggressive and belligerent before they're aggressive and belligerent? How do you tell when a Liberal or NDp supporter is going to start screaming and yelling to get attention from the press before they do it? -
Texas death row inmate gets reprieve

Really? Even for those two scumbag teenagers in BC? According to reports they are psychopaths who have little chance of rehabilitation. That means we'll be paying to lock these two vermin up for the next forty to sixty years. And as there isn't the slightest doubt of their guilt, I'm willing to allow them both to be hanged - slowly. -

This is all total bullshit. The only thing Carson is accused of is possibly using his former position to get him an in so he could lobby on behalf of a company. There are no allegations of theft involved, and from what I've seen of the allegations, it's unlikely any charges will be forthcoming on the lobbying score either. -
No, it means we'll go, well, not 'we', but our soldiers will go, with crappy equipment, just like they did under Chretien.
-
And that would be no more justified than what happened.

Actually, I think they killed people last year too, just on the rumor he was going to burn it.

Are you saying Muslims are the equivalent of mad dogs?
-
The UN's chief representative to Afghanistan said it. He said the Afghans were not responsible at all.
-
You mean the average Muslim, don't you?

Spitting on people is called 'assault', and is illegal, as is 'punching people in the face'. However, you can say things about people's religion or politics or ugly wife if you want to.

Guilty: Harper Government Found in Contempt of Parliament
Scotty replied to Topaz's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
As one guy I met the other day said "He cut my taxes by 30%. I liked him!" Harris balanced the budget, which is more than the previous governments could do. And yes, Eves let things go slack in his one year there, but then in came Dalton McGuinty, and taught Ontario that it really had no clue what big deficits were before. -

Everyone knows that campaign staff are on the lookout for people who want to disrupt the campaign stops, and that's particularly so for Harper because he is the number one target, but a long shot. Disrupt one of his speeches, screaming and making a spectacle of yourself, and you get on the national news. So finding out people attending a Harper meeting are pictured with another leader clearly leads to suspicion they're looking to make trouble. Still, the Tories have apologized and said they'll tell their staffers to be more careful and more polite in future. -
Former Chief of Defense Rich Hillier called Chretien's time in office the "decade of darkness" when spending cuts and neglect drove the military to the verge of obsolescence. Now it's looking very much like Michael Ignatieff wants to imitate Chretien - and Trudeau before him. Many have noted the Liberals' abrupt shift leftwards into heavy social spending and higher taxation, but aside from his opposition to the new fighter aircraft few have noted what this means for the military. It is evident from the platform released on Sunday that Michael Ignatieff favours a return to the decades of Liberal practice under Pierre Trudeau and Jean Chretien, which oversaw the slow but persistent erosion of Canada’s military, to the point of international embarrassment. We lacked troops, we lacked equipment, we lacked influence. Canadian soldiers heading overseas had to hitch rides on foreign aircraft. We couldn’t deliver our own equipment on aid missions. The point is that this book burning took place on the other side of the world. I suppose I could see if someone had plunked one down on the road in front of them and set it on fire they'd be indignant about that, but really, what the hell difference does it make if someone burns a book on the other side of the planet? And even if they're too stupid to differentiate between some local preacher - and god knows they've got enough loco imams - and the American soldiers you'd at least think they could tell the difference between Americans and the UN. Most likely, unlike the gurkas, they'd shoot back and kill a lot of drooling fanatics.

Being protective of the money you earn in hard times is not being 'mean'. And it's not as though anyone wants to throw orphans out into the cold to starve. What exactly do you consider 'mean' anyway? Not thinking much of a new and horribly expensive social program which is clearly unnecessary?

In what way did Mulroney, for all his flaws, govern as an ideologue from the right? Hmm, well, the more I see about the Liberal party's shift to the Left the less I think them likely to govern with anything approaching efficiency.

Is Igantieff taking us back to Trudeau days?
Scotty replied to Scotty's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Really? Cause it seems to me that with your party being 14 points down what you people who support the Liberal Party are doing here is trying to advance a cause, and you're doing a piss-poor job of it. -
Chretien wasted $2 Billion and nothing to show for.

You are babbling. In point of fact, you've been babbling inanely throughout this entire topic, like a smirking punk with a chip on his shoulder. I read through it with a sense of disappointment, and was hoping that at least someone might actually hold a defensible opinion they had put some small amount of thought into. Clearly that someone is not you.
