Anti-western, anti-jew sentiment alive and well in Canada.

I don't understand the Eastern Bunny either. Want to know why? Because I don't understand what does not exist..... Nice though to see you still are under the delusion that French-speaking CANADIAN cultures and First Nation cultures are not Canadian. -

Of course not. But then, Trudeau was not a dictator and there is no apartheid of any kind in Canada. And there are some in Quebec who argue that multiculturalism was an attempt to dilute Quebec identity. Needless to say, I do not subscribe to any of these notions. The policy of opening immigration to non-whites started under Dienfenbaker. News to you... Equality does not mean the denial of the rights of members of minority groups. At least, you recognise they are rights. That's progress. I understand perfectly that the freedoms of Canadians are better protected now that they are included in the Constitution, including freedoms that were not acknowledged in the past. -
You really don't get it do you? Let me spell it to you: it is, to use YOUR own words, stupid to have as a centre piece of an opinion on immigration something like: **** Ok, OK, I'll admit. The word test was not the best choice here. But do you seriously believe that I would advocate recognizing foreign medical degree after a 30 minute test? I am talking about requiring them to prove that they are as competent as graduates from our universities, using the same tools we use when graduating medical students from universities. And the Irish was considered lazy bums barely worthy of being called Christians. And this about the non-european... Really? Want to go say to a German and a Polish immigrant, or an Italian immigrant and a Dane immigrant, or a Russian immigrant and a Dutch immigrant, that there a basically not that much difference between them culturally? Go ahead, they need the laughter. Completely foreign person meaning not European enough, right? Back to the absurd argument that there are not that much difference between various European cultures. There is not denying that factors influencing how well and fast immigrants integrate to their new country are different today. But the long history of ethnic newspapers, cultural associations, credt unions and financial organizations show that the recents are not the first to seek to maintain a link to their country of origin. BTW, the point of the parralel between anti-immigrant sentiments yesterday and today is that those sentiments still exist, that their primary fundation is prejudice, and that those who harbour them have been and will be proven wrong by history. Sounds like a lot of schools in Ukrainian communities out west in the 1910's and 1920's and 1930's. I'd say that plenty of their dscendants today are proud Canadians. Some with many of those whose ancestors attended Jewish schools. "The best of what immigrants have to offer" That's the exact words I said. I don't see the word culture in there. Each and every INDIVIDUAL who comes here and decides to make this land his/her land contributes themselves to it. And the best of who they are can only enrich the best of which each of us are. There is a wide range of opinions on the place of women, abortion, freedom of religion, freedom of speech, the place and rights of homosexuals, both in Muslim communities and through out the population as a whole. Ethnic communities and religious groups are not monolithic blocks. There is a minimum standard of behaviour that we can and should espect of newcomers, because we expect it from ourselves. At the same time, any opinion that can be legally held and expressed in this country can be legally held and expressed by anyone. People who call women whores unless they hide in the house, who shun homosexuals and who think of people of any faith as ennemies are not people I find bery likeble, forwant of a better term. But unless you want to make expressing those opinions a criminal offense for everyone, those opinions are not a sufficient ground for barring sooomeone from immigrating here. BTW, ideas like micro-credit and interest-free loans, frequent in the immigrant Muslim communities, sound a pretty good idea to me as a way to help the pooreest among us break the cycle of despair.

Polygraphs can indeed be beaten. Certainly not easy, but feasable, Soviet spy Aldrich Ames beat it TWICE. He later claimed that all he did was to follow the advice of his Soviet handlers: "Get rested, relax, be nice and cooperative to the interrogator, and stay calm". Others said it was because he was a psychopath. Some experts believe that the reliability of polygraph just a little higher than chance.

In the case of Morin, I remember reading that the victim;s mother, when she was first asked when she came back home to the day of her daughter's disappearance, gave a time that was earlier than the earliest time Morin could have arrived home. Since the victim was already missing when her mom arrived home, there was no way he could have abducted her. Well, the police was so sure that he is the one who did it that they convinced themselves that the mother was wrong, and that she had arrived home a lot later that she thought, late enough that indeed it would have been possible for Morin to do it. I am certainly saying they acted out of malice, or coerced the mother in changing her statemen. But they went at her with enough "are you sure" type questions that, as she later testified at the enquiry into Morin's conviction, she was starting to believe they were right.

You mean the good old days when everyone knew their place... the women barefoot and pregnant in the kitchen, the gays in the closet, the Frenchies anywhere as long as they shout their mouth and did it in English, the Indians in residential schools, the immigrants in slums if they were white and out if they were not? Equality before the law, recognition of the true diversity of our country and treating people based on who they are and not where they're from do not equate the so-called "loss of cultural rights" claimed by Leafless. -
When Jesus was among us, the Pharisees hated him. Today, they hide behind him.

I for one, would believe your concern and your declaration of how important they were to you if it wasn't for statements like "HIV is a gift from God".

Now now, be more precise will you? You used to compare me to Stalin, Hitler and Mugabe. Not to say that our immigration policy does not need reform, but we both no that for you uncontrolled immigration means immigration from outside of the British Isles. And that started well before Trudeau. Imiagine, our countries two national languages having the same status, and our cultural diversity being acknowledged. Yes, Canadians have rights. None of these are diminishing in any way the importance of English-speaking cultures in this great country of ours. But it is nice to know you still don't get it. -
. We agree on something, at last. That being said, my point in writing is that is stupid, cliché and irrelevant when the word immigrant is substituted to Canadian-born, not that we should let everybody who knocks at the door in. I'm not a musician, but id I were my violin would fit in well with organ rendition of "Immigration is bad". I'd beg to differ on that, but I'll pass. I would be the last to argue that the sets of skills we needed 50 years ago are the sets of skills we need today, or that the skills we need today will necessarily be needed 50 years from now. And you won't find a si9ngle posting of mine arguing otherwise. At the same time, I believe that immigrant doctors who are driving taxi cabs should be tested to see if they are qualified to practice medecine here (btw, I take taxis on a regular basis, andI have no problem understanding the drivers' English). We've heard that one before... This used to be said about Irish immigrants, about Eastern European immigrants, about Jewish immigrants. about Irish immigrants, about Catholic immigrants. This used to be said even about non-iimmigrants; French-speaking Canadians and Aboriginals have heard it often enough over the centuries. In the 1920's, the same was even said in some quarters of immigrants from London's working areas. Of course, this is not to deny the existence of cultural differences, or to argue we should accept everything. That being said, we have managed through the years to integrated the best of what immigrants had to offer to the fabric of our society. There are some who think it is no longer possbile, and some who won't even try (and yes, I am talking about both immigrants and Canadian-born); too bad for them. Too late, I am learning a lot about the difference already just by reading you.

On the contrary, I find your endless stream of insults equally pathetic and hilarious. And without any relationship with the issue of immigration and anti-immigrant bias.
-
The notable feature of your postings is the misuse of facts when they serve your prejudice, and the endless stream of insults directed at most people who disagree with you. And the relationship with the FACT that, well managed, immigration has been, is, and will be an asset to this grat country of us is?

And last time I checked, they met the definition of human beings. Off topic, but I cannot shake the feeling that the Putin regime is co-opting the Russian Orthdox Church as a symbol and rewarding it by eliminating the competition on the "religious market". The second the Church will challenge Putin's power, I'll treat the same as he has treated any other opponents.
-
I was merely pointing out the absurdity of the "crimes have been committed in the name of religion, so followers of religions share in the guilt" argument. As for your endless repetition of "oh, but the Russian Orthodox Church did this, it did that"... In case you had not figured it out yet (and yes, my bad for not having expressed myself clearly), I was not talking about the organization, I was talking about its followers who were murdered, exiled, persecuted.

You mean coming to a better understanding of our past What is a fragment of your imagination is the notion that it amounts to wiping out anybody's cultural rights. -
I forgot... Pointing the FACT that there more than just a few Canadian-born people who are grossly unqualified for the job they occupy or who can't use French or English properly even when armed with university degrees do not jive with your anti-iimmigrant bias. You don't like it, so it no surprise that you won't even address it. I'd love to keep laughing at the way you attack those whose opinions you don't like (I am surprised you haven't told me to get a job yet). But this is not about you. it is about this evident FACT... Generation after generation, this great country of ours has been built to a large extent by immigrants.... Including people whose skills, knowledge of this country, or knowledge of its languages was far from being the best. Some failed, many more persevered. Their children went further. And we have one of the best countries in the world. This continues today, and I for one am proud that it is so. Were there, and are there immigrants who should not be here?Certainly. Is integrating immigrants in our society a walk in the park? Nope. But I say, and will keep saying from my own experience with friends, co-workers, clients, and other people who immigrated here that things are a far cry that what anti-immigrants describe. Arguing that our immigration system has flaws is legitimate (I for one would like a refugee status evaluation process that is fair and FAST). But when I see anti-immigrant opinions, I'll call it as it is. PS: Before you come saying that I ignore your numbers... My problem is not with the numbers; I'd say it if I thought they were wrong. It's with the way they're ysed to promote anti-immigrant bias.

This coming from the man who once suggested re-instating slavery.

 As much as i weep for any victim of any murder. Yeah right So I presume we cannot solely blame the atrocities committed by Lenin, Stalin, Mao, Hoxha, Pol Pt, Kim Il Jung and and other leaders of murderous ATHEIST regimes on those individuals and a few extremists, right? Not to say that those who had murdered "in the name of God" were a few. But if you think that will deny God and His love because of what others have done, you are barking at the wrong tree.

Ao You feel you are the victim of personal attacks, Mr. Canada. Allow me to join in with this... A vicious personal attack, and a LIE on top of that. Feel free to denounce its author.

Of course, nothing about helping them vanquish their sickness while they're in jail.

Nice try, Nobody who can read can confuse disgust at your un-christian views with support, acceptance or tolerance for crime.

Wanting to treat criminals harshly is one thing... This... that you belong to the same Church as me makes me sick.

Why, because he doesn't egage in homophobia?
-
Because facts that puts the issue in a larger perspective cannot be used to further homophobia do not make them irrelevant.
