And they sell these gift cards in $1000 denominations? edit to add: If you guys are just arguing that Josh Duggar is not a particularly crafty individual, I fully concede the point. But if you're trying to argue that it's something other, I think you're being ridiculous. -k

Those require identity verification. I've been researching those myself, as I'd like to make anonymous Visa purchases because of reasons. -k

You seem to be arguing that Duggar confessed to something other than this Ashley Madison business, and that his credit card being in the data doesn't make sense so it must be an elaborate frame-up. Is that not the case? If you're just arguing that Josh isn't the smartest guy in DC, I don't think that was actually in doubt. If you're arguing something else, feel free to expand on it. -k

It doesn't make sense that Ashley Madison could bill a credit card for 2 years unless it was legit. And since the card had Josh Duggar's name and address on it, I don't see how it could be anybody else's. I think he probably assumed his credit card info was secure with the site... an assumption most of us make when we make online purchases. And in light of his confession/apology today, I can't see why you'd be trying to argue the point. It's ridiculous. -k

Point taken You'd have to ask Mr Hefner yourself. Srsly tho, point taken. -k

Here's the thing. He signed up under a fake name and fake email account, but guess what: Ashley Madison requires a *real* credit card. The hackers found a credit card registered to his real name at his real address. I suppose you could try and argue that maybe some scammer managed to get a credit card under Duggar's name and address, but Ashley Madison was able to bill the credit card for 2 years. The credit card issuer wouldn't let an account go delinquent for 2 years, so the card must have been valid. Which means it must have been Duggar's real credit card. Duggar isn't "some blogger". He's first off best known from the "19 Kids And Counting" TV show, where his family espouses family values (as well as the values of the Quiverfull movement...) The Duggar family are somewhat like the Duck Dynasty's Robertson family in the sense that they were big TV advocates for religion. They've also been But more recently he has been Executive Director of the Family Research Council, a far-right Christian political lobby group. They're active in lobbying for "pro family" (ie, anti-gay, anti-feminist) political causes. Josh is a guy who, until he got outed for molesting his sisters as a teenager, had friends in high places. For example, here's Josh with presidential contender Ted Cruz: For example, here's Josh with presidential contender Mike Huckabee: For example, here's Josh with presidential contender Rick Santorum: For example, here's Josh with presidential contender Rand Paul: I think you get the point. For a certain branch of Republican candidates, the endorsement of the Duggars and/or the Family Research Council is something that resonated with their supporters. -k

Well, lots of people hate what Ashley Madison stands for. Their slogan is "Life's short. Have an affair." They're literally promoting adultery. Perhaps it was motivated by a philosophical hatred of what Ashley Madison does, perhaps it was personal revenge from somebody whose family was hurt by an affair that started on Ashley Madison. Or maybe they just did it because it was there. Who really knows. Lots of hackers are motivated by a sense of morality, though. Aaron Swartz was motivated by the belief that information should be shared. The hacker who outed the Steubenville football rapists case will probably spend more time in jail than the actual rapists. I don't hate all Christians, Sharkman, just the ones who go around attacking other people who don't share their beliefs. If this were some regular Christian who was unhappy in their marriage or made a mistake or whatever, I would take no joy in it. But since this happens to be a guy who was the executive director of a political lobby group that spent its time attacking rights for gay people under the pretense that gay marriage is destroying traditional marriage. You know what destroys traditional marriage? Josh Duggar. -k

He's the Keyser Soze of "usual suspects". -k

I never really got into anime. I remember enjoying "Outlaw Star" once upon a time, that was a fun space themed shoot-em-up kind of thing, and I remember watching "Witch Hunter Robin" and thinking it had potential, but most of the series I've seen have been too awful to watch more than an episode of, and I kind of gave up on the whole genre pretty much. I have heard that "Attack of Titans" is pretty good, so maybe I will check that out. Things that always confuse me about anime: -why do Japanese girls look like Caucasian girls in anime? -why do Japanese boys look like Caucasian girls in anime? -why are the key figures in world-shaking drama always attending the same middle-school in Japan? -why is it that the only people able to operate giant war machines always happen to be adolescents? -k

Well, first off "I" didn't expose anything. I posted what's currently one of the biggest stories on social media. This genie was out of the bottle without my help. The Duggars are public figures and activists. They're using their fame to promote their social and religious views. Fair game. This week the Duggars were meeting with execs at the TLC network to pitch the idea of a new TV show where Ma and Pa Duggar provide counselling to victims of sexual assault, calling upon their experience counselling Josh and his sisters. That's a fact. If the Duggars want to continue to promote their social and religious views in this way, their private problems are fair topics for public discussion. -k

That's a load of self-serving crap. They don't actually know what information the Russians obtained, and were heavily invested in making these sorts of allegations against Snowden at the time, as a means of trying to fight the PR battle. I think that if we revisit the "Snowden" thread, we'll find that many of these self-serving statements from US and UK intelligence big-heads were debunked as quickly as they were issued. And does it really pass the smell-test that on-contract computer operators at the data center in Utah can just log on to the server and download lists of top-secret in-field operatives? Really? REALLY??? -k

mmm, that's nice. -k

If Joe or Suzie from Winnipeg had accounts at Ashley Madison, I really couldn't care less. But we're talking about a guy who worked as executive director for a political action lobby group whose focus is demonizing liberals and gay people for "destroying families". -k

Example? -k

They were probably just trying to protect us from terrorists, e^pi*i. Nothing to worry about! -k

Well, at least you can get a Participation Award for getting in before the lock! -k

He's a public figure, the information is out there, and the sensitive stuff like his personal contact information and credit card number is redacted, so I don't see the issue. Hey, have you become a social conservative as well as a fiscal conservative? Did your recent life-changing experience also turn you into a Family Values guy? -k

Josh Duggar (as well as the rest of his family to lesser or greater extent) have built fame and fortune attacking the librerals and the gays for destroying America's families and molesting children. So what does he do in his spare time? He destroys his own family and molests his little sisters. I don't care what people do in their own time... unless it's a direct contradiction of policy that they're trying to advance in the public sphere. At that point, their flaming hypocrisy becomes a matter for public discussion. I don't even care where the information came from. "hey, you guys weren't supposed to find out about that" isn't a defense. I realize that this was supposed to be about City of Winnipeg employees and that Josh Duggar is completely off topic, but at least I didn't bring Caitlyn Jenner into it, and since I didn't call anybody a troglodyte I'm sure Charles will be ok with it. -k
-
It's apparently my fault for not giving you guys enough to talk about to keep your tiny adolescent minds from wandering back to Caitlyn Jenner. -k

My favorite news from the Ashley Madison hack is that family values activist Josh Duggar had an Ashley Madison account! http://gawker.com/family-values-activist-josh-duggar-had-a-paid-ashley-ma-1725132091 Dude blew $1000 at Ashley Madison during the same time frame he was working as Executive Director of the Family Research Council, a major US lobby group that spends most of its time complaining that liberal values are destroying families. Josh doesn't need liberal values to destroy marriages, he just needs his credit card. As a devout and extremely vocal Christian, Josh fully endorses the power of prayer; no doubt "dear God, please don't let my wife find out" is high on the list of things he prays for. Josh's turn-ons include: Josh's turn-ons include: Of course, Josh already got fired from Family Research Council after it became public knowledge that he molested girls (including his sisters) when he was a teenager. It's not like there's much more damage to his reputation that can be done at this point. But it does kind of demonstrate what a load of horse crap it was when he was talking about how after his molesting days he got in touch with Big Baby Jesus and prayed until he was all Godly again. Guess that didn't take. I'm sure more prayer and reflection will be had in coming days. -k

Female security screener won't frisk male passenger, so he can'
kimmy replied to kimmy's topic in Sex and Gender Issues
To me it's ridiculous that this policy-- which presumably was crafted for the benefit of the passengers' protection-- was non-negotiable even at the passenger's request... or at least in the security woman's mind. The CATSA spokesman said that the agent was in the wrong here. One suspects that at some point in the past, an angry female passenger raised hell after being frisked by an overly zealous screener, and CATSA issued a blanket policy. -k -
I'd say the attempt to equate Roosh to Cenk Uygur has been a failure, to say the least. -k
