  1. It's not as the article suggests. The Tim Hortons is a franchise, operated by a non-profit wing attached to the department of national defence, which was created years ago to offer morale and family support to the troops. The logo on the guy in the picture's shirt is who he works for, not Tim Hortons. All the money they make goes back into programs and services for the troops. I'm also surprised that awarding the GSM is pitched as a new thing, as I saw these guys receive medals in theatre years ago.
  2. I pretty much agree. While the ROM's collection is built heavily on world history, the museum of civilization in ottawa focuses more on the canadian narrative. I'm guessing that national capitals like ottawa and washington will want to place greater emphasis on their own political histories. Europe is different in this regard because they have had fluid borders filled with conquest and invasion, and a colonial history that has given them access to much of the world's treasures. But, while they have pieces from the rest of the world, I feel like they have been absorbed by the country holding them and are treated as national properties. The example that comes quickly to mind are the egyptian obelisks the dot Rome.
  3. point is I only see one whiner here... 'night.
  4. You're right, I am just a rookie... and you always have an excuse for why you're not doing something better with your life other than hanging with us lowly canucks. It's been fun, pumpkin!
  5. I'm whining because I experienced the racism you proclaimed exists? I'm not sad. I do 50-60k of air a yr. some grumpy dude in a monkey suit and with a badge isn't going to cramp my style.
  6. I'm guessing it's somehow important to you because you keep responding. I'm only here occasionally, but when I'm here it's all me, baby!
  7. Who's afraid to admit racism exists here? I'm a brown boy, I've done my time. But I've not yet been profiled in a Canadian airport. Just in the US and France so far. Sucks to be you. Still, some consider personation, passive agression and obsessive posting forms of mental addiction.
  8. You play an anonymous character on an internet forum to 'win'...
  9. JFK sucks. It's crowded and old. I prefer liberty (except that's where Shahrukh Kahn got pulled aside in that moment of airport irony... why are they so racist in the US's most multiculti city?) FYI, the booze is better in the AC lounges. United lounges suck but continental will be a good star alliance member when the grow up a little.
  10. Game? passive aggressive rage isn't a game, it's just the internet. a world of lonely people being tough, but only when they're anonymous.
  11. I'm a frequent flyer with Air Canada. I love the maple leaf lounge and terminal 1 is my fav location. Which airport do you fly into when heading home? Do you have an airport where you live?
  12. I meant a plurality in the popular vote, within the context of political flavour. Vote splitting in the centre and left have given them power in the same manner afforded to chretien in the 90s, even if these guys can't transform it into a majority government.
  13. I don't have an 'ugly american' mystique in mind, I'm just talking to and about you, clearly on issues you don't want to answer but are spending time and effort not answering...
  14. The conservatives have become very good liberals. Until they get plurality, their approach will be to produce largely martinesque policies under the guise of social revolution.
  15. You sound like an extreme left winger with your hysterical fear rants. No justice, no pizza!
  16. Just wondering why an 'american' who claims to be beyond us spends all of his nightlife as a keyboard warrior on canadian issues. I guess it will have to be a matter left between you and your priest...
  17. So is sexual assault, no? That said, I'm with you. Let her say her thing and then move on. It will be forgotten by all other than the hyperconservative disciples moments after she's left.
  18. Okay, you don't want to answer. And yet your post frequency just jumped, like your heart rate. Don't worry, I don't care where you're from... I'm just making a point. Back to toronto, feel free to come by sometime. I'd love to show you a good time in the most multicultural city in the world.
  19. And you're here because...
  20. I don't get it. Are you saying that being evasive doesn't make it easier for you to criticize without personal accountability? You can't get into a boxing match over the phone, sweetie.
  21. I think that they became giddy with their own rhetoric. Most of what I've heard on the matter of US politics over the past year has been informed by its media pundits and their absolute world views, not its politicians. The problem with media pundits (other than that they are media pundits) is that they don't have to live in the world of compromise in which most of us operate. So, to the limbaughs, the becks and their offshoots teabaggers I say, "you lose". And tonight, politicians worked for their keep and the ones who bought your way of thinking also lost.
  22. Yes, keep being vague. So much easier to be right when you don't have to be personally accountable, no?
  23. I dunno. Why do you give us so much attention?
  24. Of course toronto carving itself out as its own province is ridiculous. But people like Bill Murdoch fail to recognize that it is toronto that disproportionately absorbs the people from his riding who are gay or lesbian, struggling for employment, dealing with severe health issues that the local hospital cannot address or who are maybe just looking for a more considerable population amongst which to define their future. Any which way you look at it, toronto exists because of and to the benefit of the rest of ontario.
