  1. I am not upset about people liking MMA, and I never said that. Well frankly Shady, if I were to coach a soccer team - even a pee wee soccer team - you can be guaranteed that they would learn that hitting a man while he is down is gutless and unmanly.
  2. Youre the only one thats been doing that. Fallaciously claiming the moral highground, and pretending to speak for "Canadian Men" or "Canadian Tradition" when you just flat out DONT. Again. Laughable. But all you can counter with is flat-out denial and insult. AS IF my opinion about MMA affects you directly in a personal way and you have this incessant need to be defensive about some configuration of complicity you have formed about yourself. It's actually fascinating from my perspective, it really is.
  3. True. But they might need more buses to account for more students. Or each separate school that is reverted to public, will still require buses where they did before. Another area is administration where some large savings could be realize. But with the obscene bureaucracy of the Ontario education system...
  4. I dunno about that. I mean one of them could be lictard, but I highly doubt it. However, the problem seems to be the understanding of metaphor (or simile). For example, for those that say Israeli actions are LIKE the genocide perpetrated during the Second World War others will counterpoint with the illustration that there are no concentration camps or that there are resorts in that particular region. So if you were to say that the Israeli actions are LIKE the genocide perpetrated on the Indians during the Manifest Destiny years in the US, they will counter with the fact that there are no horses and feathers involved in the Gaza. Whereas the origial intent is more to specify that "these actions" are LIKE genocide. As IF genocidal actions retain the same form in all regions of the world through all of history. The problem being that genocide comes in many forms, under many guises and under the imposition of different timeframes.
  5. It could be, but not by any significant proportion of the whole. However, when we talk about "weird superstitions" are we talking religion or politics?
  6. Meh, the beloved conservatives were caught saying better dead than red. Support them as you see fit.
  7. Right. As if you are qualified to comment on another's "moral compass." The police have the legal right to shoot someone. So, irrelevant. In a combat zone, the CF have a legal right to shoot someone. So, irrelvant. In a bar fight, most CF members will duke it out like men and not hammer someone while they are down. Most of them are not gutless and cowardly. Doesn't exonerate them from being gutless and cowardly, as every real Canadian man knows. So these claims about how "real Canadian men" fight are just fiction. -k
  8. But it isn't "Harper is a goof." It is the principle involved that seems to be applied selectively according to political tastes and, in this case, using a more or less peaceful group of people in this country as scapegoats for purely political motives and ensuring it gets in the news. What is the real messaging all about here? Now perhaps you belong to a relatively safe demographic that wouldn't have to worry about such things as much, but what does that say about us - that allow this sort of thing to be enacted by our minority government against a segment of our population.
  9. So presuming that separate school funding is stopped in Ontario and all the separate school boards are reverted to regular old public schools, where will we save by not funding? Separate School Boards - Ontario
  10. How about we substitute "Islam" with "conservative" and ban conservatives from making speeches at DND since one of their leaders was implicated in the murder of an unarmed Indian at Ipperwash. Not some idealoligical threat about some country overseas, but an actual killing right here in Canada. Or is that somehow different since religion is not involved?
  11. What is DND's mandate, do you have a link to it or something?
  12. There is a separate protestant board in Ontario too: Penetanguishene Protestant Separate School Board That I didn't know. Hmmmm.... That is why it is a tough problem. For one, the UN is an outsider organization making remarks about our internal social organization with respect to funding separate school boards and they have a point - to a degree. However, their opinion lacks the same weight as the present exigencies of the problem as we ourselves know it. Much of it political, but real enough that we are stuck with the imbalance for the foreseeable future.
  13. Are you talking about 'make peace' with Ahmadinejad or Iran as a nation? This seems to be a non-sequitur actually - a rhetorical response. One side talks about 'military strikes' the other side talks about burying the leadership. More or less sounds all the same.
  14. Right, I had forgotten that. I belonged to a Protestant School Board way back in the day. However, how about Alberta and Saskatchewan? So we have established that the UN opinion carries no legal weight, so what other weight could there be? Moral weight? Weight of logic? Some sort of economic weight? Give me an idea of what you mean and I am sure I will come up with a decent way to dismiss it accordingly.
  15. You mean discriminatory against non-Catholics AND non-Protestants? The emptiness of the argument surrounds the fact that an opinion by the UN carries no weight when it comes to constitutional legalities in this country. Since there is a guarantee for Catholic and Protestant religious education in the Constitution, all the other religions have exactly the same privlidges and rights of one another. So it because a real peach pit of an argument. It would specious to grant other groups participation in what they themselves term a discriminatory privledge. So the only thing they could reasonable advocate for is an abolishment of those consitutional guarantees. Nevermind the implications of taking constitutional guarantees away from a group of people, but a good chunk of them vote which, as has already been pointed out, would be political suicide. So sure, the UN says this or that, take the high road. But it changes nothing here.
  16. But even if they did, then there would be the strength of schedule argument, the difficult path argument, the computer-says-so argument and finally, the fewest hangnails per team argument. With the amount of cash being generated with the current BCS system, I can't see anyone wanting to risk that even though the Papa John Bowl (now Birmingham Bowl) might not look as well attended on TV as Papa John wanted. One day I hope there is the 'Bitchin' Camaro Bowl.' However, I kind of like the current system, it's unique, plenty of schools are eligible for a meaningful final and the the top-ish two teams meet in the BCS final I can see playoffs for maybe the top 4, but I wouldn't want a 'March Madness' approach at all nor any superconferences created.
  17. So my point is, that since separate school boards have been constitutionally provided for, pronouncements of discrimination toward them by the UN are essentially meaningless. Therefore arguing that separate school boards should be abolished because the 'UN says so' is a somewhat empty argument.
  18. Buckeyes fan here, with a close secondary interest in the Wolverines. Both won today. Hopefully when they meet November 27th it will be the Big Deal. Nice to see the Sooners knock off the Longhorns too. I dunno if anyone can beat Alabama though, they look way too strong. But the season is still young-ish so hopefully someone will be able to solve them.
  19. Oh, don't get me wrong, I agree with you. But not having "official" religions is a nice idea, however why do you think there is a Catholic separate school board in Ontario?
  20. Hitting a man while he is down is gutless and cowardly, every man knows this. Whether some men do it or not doesn't make the act "right" nor does it exonerate those that do it from being gutless and cowardly. All you are advocating for permission to to jump someone after they are down and keep beating on them. Until when? Until they are unconcious? Their skull is fractured after slamming their head into the pavement a few times? Shameful. Right. So let up on him when? All you have done here is given permission to slam someone's head into the pavement or beat them into a pulp. "Oh, your honour, I killed him because he still posed a threat." Nice. Hitting a man while he is down is gutless and cowardly, MMA or not. Right. Pee wee lacrosse. Nice try, another feeble whiff. Is that all you got? At least you'll never have to worry about knocking anyone down with shots like that. What's that I hear? Right, the sound of another infamous kimmy swing and miss. Whoosh. Really? Where did I say it is "acceptable?" So you are saying it is acceptable to kick a guy in the head while he is lying on the pavement do you? Thought so. Whiff. You don't think Domi has been called gutless before? Heck, that is likely one of the reasons he got into quite a few scraps in the first place. I mean, seriously, do you know anything about sports? Oh well, at least they are not hitting a guy when he is down, which would be gutless and cowardly. Now you are just being hysterical. Hysterically funny that is...
  21. UN?? Pffft. When the "UN" comes to Canada and pays their share of the tax burden, then they can come around here giving us their unsolicited righteous opinion about our constitution. Otherwise, they can shut up and go back to spending all the millions we give them.
  22. Well then that proves we are getting the smart ones at least.
  23. Well, I have to agree with that. Why WWF never had any appeal for me.
  24. No, I was relating to what Mr. Hardner was saying, when you were quoted as saying: Which specifically refers to Mr. Hardner's idea that your principles come with a 'yeah, but.' So, taken in THIS context, let's see if the shoe fits: The shoe seems to be a good fit. Now, about your contention that late trains in Canada are "rare and infrequent" ...
  25. Picked last for the pee-wee soccer team too eh Shady? Maybe it was because you were 18 at the time?
