  1. Not so tue the largest union in North America is a trades union for blue collar workers. M just had a huge brain fart, oh ya NORTEL! employees who were promised pensions and after 30 years of service this Corperation said "thank you we failed horibly, and well you have no pension" we don't care about you. But you also have stupid unions like the auto workers who allowed GM control of pensions (not a real union if you ask me) Moral of the story take cash for your services or join a real union with a real pension don't fall for this scam of banking overtime, or stock options or these corperate pension plans, the economy goes up and down and to work 60 years and trust that private company won't fold is not smart. You cannot blame anyone for wanting to be paid the most they can get, its a dog eat dog world and if you think the government will be there for you , your on drugs. So take what you can get! OH and, put a honest days work in for a honest days pay don't over work yourself or try to be a hero they don't care about you your just a number.

  4. At risk of derailing from the topic. If you grew up around Edmonton you would know Edmonton and Calgary is like compairing apples to oranges. That infastructure spending your talking about was the huge 4 leaf clover of a overpass built coming off the QE2 to make way for port Alberta a future investment for Albertas economy. Most of Edmontons strains are a result of everyone using the services as Edmonton is the closest city to the oilsands but they don't live here and pay taxes. Like Cold lake they are becoming bankrupt everyone comes for jobs but they don't live here and pay taxes. Calgary is more white collar with shyscrapers and edmontons a blue color haven for construction workers. Now we can beat around the bush and blame individual partys the PC's had great men like Peter Laugheed, but also had failures like Ralph Klien a sun reporter with a grade 9 education. The NDP long before my time had some pretty useless politicians too from what I hear that hurt Alberta, yet on the same Hand the NDP had great men like Tommy Douglas of saskatewan who did the greatest thing for the country and brought in healthcare. The PC's had scandals with mulruney and Shriber and the Liberals got Chretien buying quebec votes. Now i am too young to vote i am only 16 in grade 9 so I really don't have a choice in the matter. But what I am is a strong advocate of being a fiscal conservative and I sway more to the right so when the time does come Chances are i will vote wildrose alliance I cannot stand by a socialist Harper who sais one thing and does another, sais he wont run a defecit and even with his background in economics is nothing but a heal for his job. I don't support a $40 billion debt and I sure as heck do not suport borrowing money we don't have to give to Private clubs for the elite.
  5. While public service hours have been cutt (lost jobs and less tax revenue), pools are being closed and Edmontons tennis courts are in shambles allot of Edmontonians are irate! If a private clubs cannot function without public money then that is too bad. Increase your membership or your fees to cover the added costs. This has become a huge debate with taxpayers in the region with thousands of Emails going to MLA's, one person in general has said he would begin Torie attack ads on TV again others are planning protest in defiance of political porking.
  6. simulus? Membership fees jumped from $7000 to $10,000 plus long time family members were required to make a $5000 deposit, returnable upon leaving the club, banks also pre aproved the financing. REgardless of federal help the project was to be completed by 2011. I fail to see how pumping money into something that would have went ahead create more jobs? maybe Ms. Blade, 47, who currently works as the sports performance manager at the Royal Glenora Club in Edmonton who is running for Torie nomination has something to do?
  7. EDMONTON -- The federal government is investing $1 million in the Royal Glenora Club. The new funding “will ensure that this 50-year-old facility can continue to thrive and remain at the heart of Edmonton’s vibrant sports and recreational landscape,” said Edmonton-Centre MP Laurie Hawn, who made the announcement at the private club Saturday. The cash will be used to upgrade the ice arena, build a new aquatic centre and fine-tune other amenities around the members-only club such as locker rooms and landscaping. “The Royal Glenora Club deeply appreciates the federal government’s timely assistance for this important project,” said Scott Paterson, president of the club. The funding was made available through the Recreational Infrastructure Canada program, which will invest $500 million in recreational facilities across Canada over a two-year period. The investment is part of the government’s economic action plan to combat the recession. [email protected]
  8. The Feds have given the PRIVATE Royal Glenora club in Edmonton $1 million for reno's. Now where did I place that $10,000 for a family membership or $1482.00 for a single person age 19-29? I can't wait to drive by and wish I could go inside. When questioned Harper insists it is for economic stimulous but after speaking to the board director for Glenora seems the pojects has been planned and underway for some time, in fact the bank already aproved the loans and the private club of elites would have went ahead regardless of Federal help. Harper do you think we are on wealfare or something? One only needs to question the same day Harper was threatened to lose his job so he hands his elitist friends money's to buy votes? maybe?
  9. If it did happen I don't think it would be the kind of war you all are thinking, we are learning this in school, a war with billions of people and Nukes would not be a ground battle. With China as a leader in investing in green technology, science etc they are pumping out way more qualified people than the US. Another 10 years they will be a super power and not need the states for exports only reason they ivest in the US they have too much money and can't put it into there economy or it will hyper inflate, once the chinese become consumers they will wage what is a economic war, and like someone said already we best be choosing the one who will win.
  10. thank you for responding I should be done my report sunday, what I ask from you is why did you as a liberal vote for Harper? you can help me allot by answering that. My dad said he did because he thought all other party's were going to run a defecit and buy into the stimulous fraud wich to my uderstanding devalues the dollar and will drive us into hyper inflation leaving a debt on his children he does not want. Like you ,when I am old enouph to vote i think i will be a liberal too I see a charming loyal trust worthy Ignatiaff who will lead this country out of this mess, I son't like arogance much and how conservatives try to corupt our system like our health minister in Alberta that locked the oposition out, we need to work in a democracy not a fascist state where opinions are sensored. I also feel strongly against the war Harper waged on Iraq he killed so many of our people with his lies of weapons of mass destruction. Thanks. Craig
  11. I never took interest in politics, mind you i am still to young to vote. our class is doing a report on democracy and a large percent of us are basing our failed democracy on Harper, I never understood how much our leader lies to us, and my dad who is a fiscal conservative is mad as hell about being lied to about running defecits, the war in Iraq, income trusts etc. If what my dad is telling me the conservatives need to split, he sais to many dying heart liberals like Harper have corupted the party, and I believe him. I get most of my info from youtube and it makes me mad too listening to the man lie to our faces. I wish these corupt no gooders would be held accoutable , thrown in jail for misleading the people of Canada
  12. I am doing a research project for school on democracy and I am not allowed to start my own topic so i will ask here. I found a video on youtube on Harpers speach Browns speach about the Iraq war back in 2003, he has also copy'd his speaches about the fundamentals of our economy speach my question.....who writes these speaches? it was not Harper or anyone we elected. view the video here.....http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h87Z9uM8KXI&feature=related
