  1. Speculating is very powerful to a point that it can even cure paranoia.
  2. Public education is a positive right because it equalizes life opportunities. I cannot imagine equalizing life chances without teaching what religions say about goodness, meaningfulness and truthfulness.
  3. To me, far from being shameful, it is dutiful for a state to suspend individual rights on security ground.
  4. Positive rights are government's obligations. Positive rights seem to include transmission of religious knowledges.
  5. He is only suspect because, among other things, he knew Ahmed Ressam.
  6. As a Montrealer myself, I'm quite happy that Abdelrazik is not living in Montreal. But as a Canadian, I'm happy to see that this Soudanese is protected by the Canadian embassy in Khartoum. I would not like to see him being one of the millions victims of the Darfur ethnic cleansing.
  7. Religion is only a subset of culture. Culture is composed of memes. Canada should stimulate adults-children communication.
  8. Speaking of rigidities, the concept of right-wing authoritarianism was introduced in 1981 by Canadian psychologist, Bob Altemeyer.
  9. What is more important, I think, is to promote (religious) cultures in which what it means to become (fully) adult is not strictly linked to entering an unbreakable marriage.
  10. "Bill C-301 is proposing to allow licensed owners to buy as many guns as they want without having their name associated to them. While there would be little to prevent owners from giving those guns to individuals without licenses, it would also be nearly impossible to take preventive measures to remove guns when risks are known and to enforce prohibition orders." http://www.calgaryherald.com/opinion/op-ed...1330/story.html
  11. This reason has ultimately to be linked to injustices (past and present).
  12. Abousfian Abdelrazik would not cause any problem to Canadian authorities if it was obvious that he is just a man in love with the Canadian lifestyle.
  13. For non-adults, it is meaningless to speak of rights without distinguishing negative and positive rights.
  14. Richard Poplawsky began his shootout with a AK 47 but, so it seems, he finished it with more common long-guns.
  15. Most African emigrants are economic emigrants which means that if they had enough money to live in their countries they wouldn't insist to come to Canada.
  16. Because we don't want to repeat it.
  17. Net compensations allow for subtractions.
  18. A state is a protection agency and an agent knows more than his/her principal.
  19. A fiscal policy can undo what a monetary policy is doing so, by publishing grey and black lists of tax heavens, G20 countries will be able to deal with inflation.
  20. The biggest winners first.
  21. No murderers live without any social relations. Poplawski has a mother who knew everything.
  22. African misery will end when the Western World (the DeWolf family descendants for example) will compensate Africa for having endured the slave trade.
  23. Individual freedom becomes quite meaningless if girls need to learn from adults what they have to endure to become fully feminine (i.e. women).
  24. Politics is becoming a game where only real homeless persons have a chance to win a majority government. Your parents have to choose carefully the province where they settle, if they want to give you a chance in politics. Even the family of Paul Martin has not been able to capitalize on its move from an English-speaking region to a French-speaking one.
