I would rather say boomers and their children are both narcissistic to a point where they are too eager to look at themselves through flashy mirrors, like MySpace, to go hide themselves behind a polling booth.
Christianity says don't play with life like if could become less fragile, you may well make things worst in the long run. Christianity seems to be looking at the big picture, and science bedevils by details.
To fight against this injustice, there should be a right to "laziness" (i.e. resting) and to fight against injustices done via environmental degradation, there should be a universal fundamental duty to be lazy (resting). Welfare recipients are not wasting their lives; they are sparing them for the greater benefit of all life on Earth.
To me, the crux of the matter is that people have been unfairly brainwashed to think that the market is simpler and more powerful than political negotiations/deliberations.
To me, the fatal NDP's flaw, like the one in most of old Left-wing movements, is to believe that putting people to work, far from making them lethargic, will politicize them.
