  1. Cheers to you!
  2. I've heard from Finnish friends that they do.
  3. A poster on Ekos put it pretty well so I'll quote: "Trudeau is going to be the next Prime Minister (NDP backing the Libs). I think Mulcair is finished as well. NDP ran a lousy campaign (and I really believe that it started with their refusal to participate in the all-networks debate, because Harper wasn’t going to go……………Mulcair could have scored some big points with the Canadian voter, debating Trudeau, May, Duceppe, and an empty blue podium, in front of millions of voters, watching on television and online. The NDP’s reasoning that they were the only ones able to defeat Harper,…. so they were going where he was going (into Conservative-chosen debates), now looks foolish. All political parties need to rejuvenate themselves, after an election cycle or two……..I think the Conservatives and the NDP will be doing just that, after tomorrow." http://www.ekospolitics.com/index.php/2015/10/penultimate-check-up-on-election-42/
  4. Doesn't say much for Quebec.
  5. The same goes for Mulcair for going along with Harper's anti-democratic antics. Glad it's cost him. I literally had a conversation with a rabid NDP campaigner where they even admitted that their party isn't democratic.
  6. Fair enough, they are pretty much polling head to head with the NDP and the Liberals.
  7. Harper tries to shore up as much of the hoser vote in Ontario as possible and the papers still give his party a free ride. The idea that the public is easy on the liberals is false. The sponsorship scandal demontrates its.
  8. I think I under-estimated on the Bloc. It looks like the Duceppe might be throwing a considerable wrench into the election and he may give it to the conservatives, I've changed my Bloc prediction to 6 seats. Mind you it is likely that Duceppe will be eating into NDP numbers which should help the liberals too.
  9. http://www.torontosun.com/2015/10/17/harper-thanks-fords-at-big-campaign-rally Stephen is on the campaign trail with Bob and Doug. And this comes out today: http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/toronto/rob-ford-mark-towhey-accusations-1.3276736
  10. Hey man I can only hope, but I'm not so sanguine.
  11. My prediction: Liberals get the most seats with 2 more seats that the conservatives, the Bloc 3, Greens 2 and the NDP get the rest. Revised: I'm predicting the Bloc get 6 seats now.
  12. Interesting: http://www.vancouversun.com/news/victoria+busiest+advance+polls/11440909/story.html Note also that it mentioned the other highest was among residents of Saanich Gulf Islands (May's riding next door).
  13. I certainly haven't broken out the champagne. I'm actually expecting a result depressing enough to warrant a binge worthy of the Ford brothers.
  14. "electionprediction.org is now calling Victoria for the Greens. I take no joy if NDP is deprived of the seat - Murray Rankin is a good guy. But the Greens need another seat." Seeing the greens looking like they will gain a seat in my riding has made my day. Given the NDP's actions and discussions with supporters some of who even admitted they aren't democratic I won't be crying too much if Rankin doesn't get elected even if he may be a good MP.
  15. I've never heard anyone call Brian sexy either. hehe
  16. I think the conservative strategy may ironically have backfired. Their 'unite the right' and 'slime the leading opposition' here actually seems to have worked against them this time since they've had to fight two fronts. First they slimed Trudeau then he fell down and the NDP became ascendent in his place, then they slime the NDP and the trend reverses and Trudeau takes the NDP's place. So after all that corporate funding has been spent to slime two parties the only impression the voter is left of the conservatives is negativity, while the other parties have promoted themselves as positive. To be strong everywhere is to be strong nowhere and so all the negativity by the conservatives has merely diluted itself and simply shown the public how negative and ugly they are. To top it off Rob had to come out at the end hahaha.
  17. Maybe that's the problem with the Air Farce not being around anymore.
  18. "I cannot be the only one that has scenes from SCTV running through my head when I hear these names..." Finally someone else makes the connection. How come the media can't figure it out? What a couple of hosers eh?
  19. ``Why are Globe & Mail & Toronto Star both against Stephen Harper`` Because they don`t want to be on the wrong side of history.
  20. Mulcair "great empathy for the marginalized" sure remember Mulcair saying that when he marginalized May from the debates.
  21. I highly suspect that the reason is that the teacher approached it with the usual pedantic text book approach, which years of inundation with had attuned the children to drown it out. The teacher obviously made it seem like more of the usual instead of successfully imparting that this is something that is directly impactful on their own lives. One could just start with the stats that seniors rule you and your destiny and unless you vote this will continue until you realize who is running your life and that it is not necessarily in your interests. I'm sure that would get some to wake up in a hurry.
  22. I think most kids naturally would want to have some say in their destiny. If they aren't understanding how they will create the state and how this has powerful impacts then there is a failure in the education system.
  23. Maybe there is a problem with a lack of civics education. Why are the kids coming out of the schools feeling dis-empowered?
  24. One would hope it would be like this across Canada but the polls say otherwise unfortunately. As a gardener I have a lot of clients who are very elderly. One 90+ year old client who is very with it is very pro Green. I asked her in all her years of experience in Canada which did she think was the best Prime Minister? She said she couldn't think of many good ones, but she really hates Harper and thinks he's the worst Prime Minister she can remember. I said that he has a lot of supporters though. She said there is a lot of people whose grandparents voted Tory and they and their descendents haven't thought of voting for anyone else. Also there was an 86 year old Dutch guy who I gave a ride the other day who had a Green sign on his hat. The Greens here have major support among the elderly in fact I noticed that in the last election when the Greens elected BC's first green MLA that almost everyone at the Green campaign event (I wasn't there just saw photos were senior citizens) When you think of Victoria possibly picking up a federal Green MP remember that Victoria is a retirement town with one of the highest per senior citizen numbers in Canada. (Vic and Kelowna being the highest west of Ontario) So it's interesting how the seniors here are voting very differently from seniors in other parts of the country.
