  1. If your salary allowed that, good for you. However, single moms, single dads, and even two income households at minimum wage do not have that luxury. They must work or go on welfare. A legitimate daycare plan means that your tax dollars don't go into social services. A legitimate daycare plan means revenue from the tax dollars of working Canadians. A legitimate daycare plan means dignity for single parents and low income familes, because they don't have to go on the dole or accept charity. It is only offspring welfare when parents are unable to go to work because they can't afford daycare. That's a lot more money out of your pocket since it's going into the system (welfare) with nothing come out of the system (taxes).
  2. Another gimmick. It's taxable and is like trying to fight a forest fire with a water gun. There is no way they can call that a day care plan. Where are all the spaces they promised? Not a single one.
  3. Does that have to be limited to refugees? I know a few people I'd like to set adrift in a dinghy.
  4. I think white goes better with cat. I save my red for road kill.
  5. Absolutely. No cats but two dogs. If you want the best seat in my house, you'll have to move one of them.
  6. Are you also raising a grandchild? I don't really need childcare but pay $ 10.00 an hour for respite.
  7. There was a letter to the editor in our local paper a while back from a woman who used to work for Immigration. She resigned after a case where she requested deportation for a man who was wanted for murder in Jamaica. Her decision was overturned by the brass, and the wanted felon was put up in a hotel in Toronto at our expense. All meals, etc. paid for until an inquiry was made. She said just talking to him she felt uneasy. No remorse only feigned indignation. I hope that's not the norm.
  8. It's a different world now and views I might have held ten years ago are different now. With the threat of global terrorism I think the 2004 decision was the right one, and the Supreme Court was right to uphold it. One poster commented: "The Supreme Court actually did just the opposite. It decided to uphold a pact that allows the US to decide who can enter Canada." I had an immediate knee jerk reaction to that, but then realized that in most cases that is probably a good idea. We simply don't have the manpower to cover all our borders, so extra checks and balances are wise. I would imagine that the Human Rights organizations involved can cite cases of abuse, and people being turned away unfairly. Maybe if I heard a few, I might change my mind.
  9. During WWI the Newfoundlanders were cannon fodder for the British. After the War, they asked for a break on their taxes so they could rebound, and were told no by Great Britian. They refuse to be treated like fodder again.
  10. "You have heard that it was said to the men of old, "You shall not kill: and whoever kills shall be liable to judgment." Did you use that as a reference when you said you couldn't care less if they killed each other off.(Israel and Palestine). How do you justify war? And don't give me the tired 'eye for an eye'. As Ghandi says it only makes the whole blind.
  11. Socialist God? Where did that come from? It was just a funny story. Coming from a Catholic family who voted Liberal all their lives, I was an outcast (only figuratively). Even my dad thought the story was funny and he loved Trudeau. You're singing to the choir.
  12. Oooh. I've always wanted to be part of 'a mass of common people'.
  13. I kind of like being called an 'Obama-Maniac'. A refreshing change from 'God-less Socialist' and 'Stick Waving Leftie'. I suspect that fans will try to find a way to at least catch a glimpse. He's only here for 5 hours. I remember years ago when Trudeau visited Kingston and adoring fans lined the streets. He went on our local radio call-in show, which just happened to be one number off from ours. My husband was still in bed when the phone rang. I answered and a gruff voice said "I want to talk to the Prime Minister". I couldn't resist so handed the phone to my barely awake hubby. The guy on the end of the phone started ranting about something. I was in the next room in tears I was laughing so hard. I kept hearing "what?" .... "Who is this?" I was voting PC at the time and it cracked me up. I wonder what the poor sap told his grandkids about his conversation with the Prime Minister.
  14. I'm there. I'll bring the cocoa if you streak across the lawn, to divert their attention while the rest of us sneak in.
  15. I'm sorry. I know I shouldn't laugh but it's 1:30 am and I can't sleep. That was very funny.
  16. I read that his visit is going to be very short anyway. More of a pitstop than a visit.
  17. What link were you looking for?
  18. Why are you saving it for later?
  19. Yuk. But you're right. The whole Warren Kinsella thing got blown out of proportion. I saw the Conservative MPs who were eating at the Chinese Restaurant where the cat joke was made. I was hoping one of them would start coughing, and I'd be able to say: "Oh look. He's hacking up a fur ball.'
  20. Here's the Link. Another Tory Lie.
  21. Check the link left by someone in the thread. Michael Ignatieff and his wife have donated the maximum for several years. Just more Cons propaganda, like the whole Punjab thing.
  22. Thanks for that link. I'm curious though. How do think he's too far right?
  23. I think you're right. A few weeks before that they were eager to get their hands on the ten million because it meant they could pay off their bills and have a little in the bank. They wanted one more shot at a Majority before Dion retired. It backfired.
  24. What is your fixation with Coalitions? When did money factor in? Harper's 2004 Coalition with Duceppe and Layton, forced Paul Martin to do his job. The Liberal/NDP Coalition of 2008, forced Stephen Harper to do his. What goes around, comes around. Both coalitions worked. They're gone. Get over it.
