  1. Fascism was not defeated in WW2, not by a long shot. In fact fascism proved how successful a system it can be, in organizing the political and economic activities of a nation. Fascism doesn't mean arresting your enemies to make them go way. There are many ways to deal with that kind of problem, and all types of government, fascist or non, do things like that when someone is deemed to be a threat or undesirable in some way. There are fascist elements incorporated into every western country. Just because modern fascism has a more smiling face does not mean it doesn't exist. To say fascism is not a component of the American political industrial system is incorrect. However debates on the true meaning of "fascism" are known to be very lengthy and generally, unresolved. In the end it matters not, it's only a word. What matters is, providing fair criticism of a given system for what it is.
  2. Mullah Omar: We don't need no steenkin badges...
  3. It is very puzzling, but does anybody actually know WHY they chose to cut a deal with Khadr?
  4. I would not put the blame for what happened exclusively on the Germans shoulders. Fact is, antisemitism existed throughout the whole of Europe for over a thousand years. the "Jewish question" is one that was shared by every country. And evidence shows, when the nazis enabled their final solution, there was no great resistance to sending jews from every nation to the concentration camps, many of which were spread throughout Europe and operated by local governments, guards and executioners. yes, even non-European countries did little to help the Jews, when the time came Canada also turned its back on jewish people who wanted to leave Europe. Look up the story of the SS St. Louis. That is only one example of a policy that deemed Jewish refugees more dangerous for Canada than the Nazis were. So it is too easy now to forget, what many countries in the world were responsible for in that insane time. And do you think it couldn't happen again? That's why it's important to be on guard and condemn anyone who appears to be taking our nation back down that same road.
  5. Perhaps but the reverse must also be true. They need him to spend at least some time in a US prison. The rumoured 1 year in US jail seems mainly to be symbolic. The same question can be asked, why didn't the US simply say to hell with this guy, no more shenanigans he goes to trial and gets the full brunt of the legal system applied. They could have nailed him to the wall. But they didn't. Clearly, something is not right with the case. There was much outcry from political infulences in the UN, maybe those external infuences were enough for them to want to avoid a trial. Maybe, maybe, maybe. Who knows... but little Omar will probably soon be coming back to Canada. Then will be interesting to see the pony show.
  6. I'm inclined to agree, and take nothing away from Foreman. But "most devestating" is a subjective term. What's even more remarkable is what Ali did to Foreman, and how he did it. He proved that intelligence can defeat overwhelming power. But to do so he had to pay the price.
  7. Fascism has meant different things over the years, but the core concept is a system where every aspect of a society, cultural, political, education, media, and industry are all brought together and controlled by government to convey a consistent ideological message. In that sense the term "Islamofascism", where Islam is the one and only thing that matters, does actually make sense.
  8. lol... that's about all there is to it
  9. Well don't look to me for mercy. Let me put it this way, i wouldn't do what he did. But ask instead why your Hillary would want to get involved. No doubt this is at the behest of Obama himself. So it's political, a face saving effort of some kind. They seemed pretty keen on giving him a deal. Why don't they want to test their shiny new military tribunal on him? We may never know, JBG
  10. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/39834263/ns/us_news-security/ Ask a silly qusetion
  11. Well some Gitmo detainees have reportedly been released and done exactly that. Part of the dilemma of what to do with people like this. Even if "innocent", as I suppose those who were released must be in the eyes of the US military, they became radicalized by the experience. And, infamous... Khadr will be infamous too, but it would be surprising if he ever gets a chance to do anything like that. Suspect that upon his release he will be followed and watched closely.
  12. Well you've got to give them some credit for using hockey sticks... another Canadian innovation
  13. At 15 I was beating up little old ladies for their pension money. How about you? When did your head get stuck up there? Or were you just born with that defect...
  14. Be intersting to see if his sentence will recognize some of the years already spent in Gitmo?
  15. Terrorist to child: "Put on this bomb vest, take this rifle and go to that hill over there, and shoot some Americans." Child: "Wait, let me check first to see what agreements were signed..."
  16. http://www.calgaryherald.com/Clinton+lobbies+Canada+over+Khadr+plea/3716907/story.html Since it appears that Hillary Clinton personally phoned the Minister a few days ago, we can assume the fix is in...
  17. I remember when most of the stores switched to plastic, think it was in the '80's and was supposedly for "environmental purposes". At that time I was against the idea. I thought, this is completely silly, how can plastic be better for the environment than paper? Imagine a landfill full of plastic bags!!! I must be a frikken genius!!!
  18. No I'm saying humans get excited when bad things happen to them, and do even worse things. But I don't approve of that. You're saying, only the last, most recent act committed is the one that matters. I reject that argument too, because it does not lead to a permanent solution, only more of the same naive attitude that perpetuates the problem. I call you and JBG naive because, a child thinks about the problems of the immediate moment, not what happened before, or what will happen next. So rather than "take sides" in an ancient conflict, one should try to get both of these people to stop blaming each other for their fathers mistakes, and not repeat them. But I don't have much "hope" for any solution, partly because most of them are exactly like you two.
  19. For the one icident in itself, Jim shot John. Reality also shows John screwed Jims wife.
  20. No, YOUR relativism is noted. I condemn them even more than you.
  21. My condemnation of the attitude of SOME jews does not equate with approval of the attitude of SOME muslims. That is the part thats so difficult for you simians to understand...
  22. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Squaw You sanctimonious queers can like me arse. Quick go and correct the entry...
  23. I don't believe I'm a "lefty" but I am capable of comprehending the depth of hatred felt, by so many in the Jewish world also. The hatred is stoked by the policy of their governments, yes. This is like a war, neither side loves the other. So are you going to pick sides? Because that really won't help to solve the problem. Forgiveness is not one of their major traits.
  24. I don't care, it's just a word, and a joke directed solely at Jacky. But that IS the way some white boys still talk to this day, like it or not. Don't like it? Oh well. Welcome to reality. I saw it on a TV show, with some cowboys and horses and stuff. Yeah, John Wayne, he shot that dirty Indian bastard right in the brain. And the networks made a lot of money showing it, too. For the record I support native rights. My first thoughts on reading the opening post were this- "The people of that lovely small town just an hour and change from Toronto..." enjoy building their lovely small community on native land. So the natives want to protect what's left of whats theirs. You can only push people so far, and they will start to push back. To my mind Canada has never properly atoned for the crimes it committed upon natives. And that includes the church as well. And in some ways even the 2010 Olympics, but that's another digression, isn't it. Now back to "oh how bad he is for saying that dirty word..."
