Dion Lays Out Anti-Poverty Plan
Amazing Atheist replied to jdobbin's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Unlike you I am a realist. This will never ever happen, I know this because I grew up in a crime filled inner city neighborhood that most people don't pay attention too. Hard drug addicts and alcoholics who have children and live in poverty will never work even if you took them off welfare. The only thing that would happen is that people would end up on the streets and robbing your house for money etc. -
I think the UN was intended to bring the world together. This however has not been the case, I think the major players in the UN need to reform it as opposed to abolish it.

Sask Party win Majority Government!
Amazing Atheist replied to Amazing Atheist's topic in Provincial Politics in Canada
They stand for Saskatchewan or at least that's what they say only time will tell but if I had to say which direction they lean towards it would be a little more to the right then left. The party was a creation of former left and right politicians from Saskatchewan. -
Sask Party win Majority Government!
Amazing Atheist replied to Amazing Atheist's topic in Provincial Politics in Canada
If they improve the horrible economy of Saskatchewan they should.... I know I wouldn't want to take credit for Saskatchewan's current economy which drives away it's youth to other provinces in search of work. -
There is no right in the charter stating that you do not have to pay your taxes. You don't need to attend any court case to know that it is illegal not to pay your taxes. If you want a new constitution just to abolish income tax it won't fly bottom line. Although I would agree that they need to be lower. Taxes get shit done and pay the bills, nothing is free. Income taxes collected get invested back into the country. So guys like Washington and Franklin etc were dumb compared to American kids coming out of universities today? In regards to political science the engineers of the US were geniuses. The founding fathers of that country knew their stuff a hell of a lot better then most people today.
-
I will give the same answers here i did in the other thread. 1: Yes and No. Some Canadians are smart enough to write a constitution this being said most people don't really pay that much attention to the inner working of the government. However the people should be involved in such a process every step of the way. 2: Yes and No. A constitution needs to apply to everyone including those in government. 3: No. What would the government need with a constitution? 4: No. === Canadians wrote the Charter of Civil Rights which is a part of our constitution and in my opinion the most important part as it deals with our civil rights as a people. If Canadians want to ensure their freedom a piece of paper is not the way to do it. Canadians must never fear the government, fearing the government almost always leads to oppression and likewise with xenophobia as well. We must remember here that a paper with some rules and rights on it don't make you free, the people make themselves free because after all no one can just take power the people have to give it to them. === Why is it the only document people reference is the BNA act and not the Charter of Civil Rights which is far more important the the BNA act.
-
We have the Charter of Civil Rights.... The charter works well and guarantees the rights to free speech and consciousness etc. I personally do not feel we need to write a constitution. The US has a constitution and look at where they are headed in terms of their civil rights. I think the only Canadians need to do is not take their already existing civil rights for granted. Now to answer these questions. Yes and No. Some Canadians are smart enough to write a constitution this being said most people don't really pay that much attention to the inner working of the government. However the people should be involved in such a process every step of the way. Yes and No. A constitution needs to apply to everyone including those in government. No. What would the government need with a constitution? No === Canadians wrote the Charter of Civil Rights which is a part of our constitution and in my opinion the most important part as it deals with our civil rights as a people. Sask Party win Majority Government!
Amazing Atheist replied to Amazing Atheist's topic in Provincial Politics in Canada
Yeah the provincial election -
After 4 terms, 16 years Lorne Calvert and the NDP not only lost the election but allowed the Saskatchewan Party to win with a majority provincial government. I am now living in Winnipeg and will be moving back to my old stomping grounds soon come the spring. After years of Calvert of doing nothing for nobody it is refreshing to see change. The Saskatchewan Party will surely open up new investment opportunity for us business types as the Sask oil sands (bigger then Alberta's) open up among other natural resources that have yet to be tapped. Let's not forget their party colors are the same as the best CFL team The Saskatchewan Rough Riders.

Flaherty Says No to Chrysler & Hargrove

You take out a mortgage on a home you are in debt. You then have to pay off that debt and if you can't you lose everything. Not entirely China has recently stated that the are becoming weary of the US economy. It won't be long before the nations giving the US money for government bonds restrict what they lend the US due to it's shaky economy and shrinking dollar. According to whom the US, I'm sorry I won't play a game I don't think I can win and I don't think for the long term that the US is a winner. India, Japan, China, Canada among other nations are becoming the new big power players in the worlds economy. Or maybe they all know it's a matter of time before they bankroll the White House. Endless spending is not a wise or sustainable practice for all parties involved. The debt is at what now in the US almost 9 trillion dollars! That is some heavy debt right there. -
Do you believe in New world Order?
Amazing Atheist replied to Topaz's topic in The Rest of the World
It doesn't matter what their culture is like they rely on the west to keep it's machine of an economy going. China like every other big nation is tied into the world trade organization and not truly communist as many believe. Since their economy relies on it's exports to us the US and Europe etc. The global market has been set up in a way the nations all now rely on the success of other nations. Every nation works the same you have poor people (includes middle class) these people do all the hard work. You then have the rich who earn money from the work you do and the products you buy. China is becoming increasingly westernized however not doing as well as many think. they may be making money now but the nation suffers from massive pollution problems and over population resulting in a lack of food to feed the populous. If any nation faces a 'Soylent Green' like reality within coming decades it will be China. -
Al Jazeera English does not broadcast pro terrorist propaganda or take sides.... They have quite a top notch line up of journalists too. This being said if Canada was concerned about channels that broadcast hate speech we would bar Fox News as they often smear facts and couple them with hate speech. Syria does complain about Israel at the UN and are usually turned a deaf ear. Even the bombing we know happened was unethical. I have nothing against Jews I mean my mom's a Jew however the government there is highly dubious in their motives. Especially in regards to Gaza etc. Israel should not be allowed to have nuclear weapons and should be treated the same as other nations in the region given their violent tendencies. Here is an example of Israel trying to control the region around them. Israel bombed the only Gaza power plant and then went on to supply power to them, now Israel is threatening to cut off their power because many of the people there do not want to conform to Israels will. Many leaders from the west acknowledge that in many instances Israels trigger finger is to itchy and in many cases have been in the wrong. I say we let Israel and the rest of the Middle East have their wars. Shia vs. Sunni vs. Kurd vs. Jew and so on.... Whoever wins takes all. The region due to it's ideological differences will never be peaceful.

Flaherty Says No to Chrysler & Hargrove
Amazing Atheist replied to August1991's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
I hardly credit the conservatives for the economy we have now in Canada. In reality the economy has changed all that much since the liberals got the boot. Not saying the conservatives have been bad for the economy I actually think they aren't doing that bad of a job maintaining what we have, this being said they haven't been in power that long and in no way deserve the credit some of you give them. As for the BIG picture it doesn't look that good unfortunately at least economically. With massive US debt and a plummeting economy it is really hard to see anything except doom and gloom 20 years from now economically. This spells disaster for us as 90% of our exports go to the US as well. The question I often ask myself is how long will other nations keep the US economy afloat by lending them money before they all decide to foreclose? It's not to late for them to restructure their economy as so it's sustainable. This however does not appear to be the case and it has many people worried. I see a new depression in the next 20 years that will start in the US and systematically the world as the market is now globalized. Can't say how bad it will be but with things like global climate change among other factors not being taken into account it won't be pretty that I know for sure. -
I agree or at the very least in the US politics forum as after this 'nice story' ends it begins to talk about the democrats and republicans and how they want to underfund the US military etc. This story leads directly into a US political rant and should be moved to the US board. Not saying it's a bad story as I have the utmost respect for any and all WW2 vets Canadian or American... Just saying it's in the wrong forum.

The New Improved Cannabis Poll
Amazing Atheist replied to buffycat's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
I never quoted anything I am weighing in on the evidence as a person who not only believes in scientific method but practices them. I am not completely and you have yet to prove me wrong on anything I've said. Most of the studies I have seen in regards to harm have not been studies regarding medical uses or potential medical uses but to determine the amount of harm done to the body. They have looked at the long term effects of Cannabis. I will not deny that it is all cut an dry as Cannabis does contain a carcinogen which is benzine. This could potentially cause lung cancer. While at the same time the plant has also been proven to have anti-carcinogens. The only negative long term effect that has been proven is Bronchitis. Cannabis has never killed a single person and many people have smoked it for years or ingested it have not suffered permanent brain damage. You would be surprised at who uses Cannabis and yet have suffered no brain damage or at least the damage you specify. As someone who has smoked for years on a daily basis and an artist which requires great coordination and mental concentration I can assure you I function as well today as I did 10 years ago when I started using. Burning out is a term used to describe the coming down from a Cannabis high. Yes I know what burning out is because I 'burn out' all the time. You just merely get a little tired is all. I have read through endless pages regarding Cannabis and it's effects and many of the studies do sit well with my arguments despite what you may or may not believe. A psychological addiction is in most cases determined by the person and events in their lives coupled with their personalities. If Cannabis or Alcohol were physically addictive then everyone who used them would like 80% of the time be addicted. Heroin and Cocaine are different because their chemical make up makes your body dependent on them. There are no physical withdraw symptoms associated with Cannabis like with hard drugs. Science has established that there are two types of addiction psychological and physical. No you were never addicted physically or psychologically. I use Cannabis because I like it's effects, you obviously did not agree with it's effects so you stopped. There in psychological terms though is a such thing a non addictive personality and this yes is the category you would be put into. Not everyone is the same though. I could live without pot and I do from time to time and every time I do it's no big deal I just don't think about it. There is an option to vote for keeping it illegal. This is impossible, people like me who have one or two lights and make our own supply will never be caught. The government has also proven that they cannot grow pot efficiently or safely for that matter. No one would buy it either as the variety would suck. The same laws regarding tobacco should be used. Those who want to grow for personal supply can and if you want to grow industrially you need authorization from the government. The only people who carry around 30 grams are usually drug dealers. I mean that's quite abit of pot. Besides such a law could not be enforced for the amount of people who use pot anyway. You either completely legalize it with rational regulation or you criminalize it as it is now. It is clear that criminalization has not and will not work so that leaves one option. The government could never meet the demands of the consumers which is why personal grows need to exist and why private enterprise need to be in the loop... Plus it creates more jobs etc. -
The New Improved Cannabis Poll
Amazing Atheist replied to buffycat's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Pot does not kill brain cells or harm the brain this has been proven through irrefutable scientific study. If your nephew isn't a genius now he never was, tons of smart people smoke weed on a daily basis. Your nephews problem isn't that he smokes pot but his addictive personality. Pot itself is not physically addictive he suffers from his own psychological addiction to the drug. -
The New Improved Cannabis Poll
Amazing Atheist replied to buffycat's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
A little harsh don't ya think? I could argue that everyone here not only uses drugs for medicinal purposes but for recreation and in many cases don't even know they are taking a drug. All a drug really is, is a foreign chemical or chemicals that alter the bodies functions. This being said not all drugs are the same. For example no one denies that Alcohol, Heroin and Cocaine all have and do destroy lives and even kill people. Pot however has not destroyed my life nor am I an addict as I quit from time to time to keep my bodies resistance down. Most pot smokers are casual smokers using on weekends and at parties etc. There are many legal drugs that destroy lives as well as illegal ones but not all drugs destroy lives and this is really the issue. -

The New Improved Cannabis Poll
Amazing Atheist replied to buffycat's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Then it would be legalization.... The government tried to grow pot for it's medical marijuana program and ended up producing an unsafe product in an abandoned mine in Flin Flon. In my opinion people should have the right to grow under 2 lights for personal and industrial growing should be done so by farmers and private enterprise. This would really expand the job market and create an entirely new cash crop. Economically it is a far more wise decision not to let the government control Cannabis growing 100%. Although I do agree that regulation is a key component of any type of legalization. The same laws in regards to growing tobacco have been reasonably successful and should be used as a model for the regulation of Cannabis. You can grow w/o a license for personal use but must get a license for industrial growing and selling. Personal grows don't hurt the market just as personal tobacco grows don't hurt the tobacco industry. If you must know I cracked a joke that the mods found inappropriate. Also I am not Dana in fact I don't even live in BC I live in Winnipeg.... Stop calling me Dana please. I got a PM for the mod about making accusations etc and I'm sure at your request, yet here you are calling me Dana when I am in fact not Dana... A little hypocritical don't ya think. Seeing as how the Green Party will never win a federal election or at least not in your life time why should people support them. They can't apply any real pressure to the federal government. Legalizing pot is also not the only issue most voters will vote for either I know while it is an issue I do care about it's not the only issue I care about. John your not a dumb guy and you could be a force to be reckoned with if you get your shit together. Politics should not be about slamming other parties and people who disagree with you. It should be about stating you policy and why it's better for the people. I have no personal disregard for you or the party in fact i voted green last election however not because of their pot policy but because of their environmental policy. The green party policies are not my problem and neither are you really as your not even in my province. My problem with the green party is that they can't win an election. Unlike most I will not vote on any single issue there are several issues I will be voting on this time from the war all the way to health care and global warming. You know if pot was legal there would be no such charge for selling pot because most of the people selling pot now would be out of business just like Al Capone and other went out of business at the end of alcohol prohibition. You can't say that was caused by pot... It has been proven that pot has no lasting effects on the brain and it also does not harm the brain either. Like I've said before most people would never even think I smoke pot on a regular basis. To use one unintelligent guy as a basis for criminalization and then lump us all in with him is just wrong. Well the taxes collected from pot could go into the health care system, help the homeless and help the mentally ill. -
How best to defend our values against Suicide Bombers?
Amazing Atheist replied to August1991's topic in The Rest of the World
For those saying Canada is primarily a Judea/Christian nation I say no as most Canadians do not attend church or take part in religion at all. Canada prides itself like other multi cultural democracies on the separation of church an state. If our government started to impose religious dogma on the people I would leave Canada as I am an atheist and accept no religion. In response to the OP, these types of enemies are not new. Extremist Muslims blowing things up is not a new occurrence 9/11 just made people aware of how serious these people are. I personally feel in regards to many of the regimes especially Iran and Syria that many of our disputes with them could be solved without causing death. Iran for example says it want full diplomacy with the US to work out differences and so on yet the US refuses and declares it's military a 'terrorist' organization. I believe the main problem with the Middle East and it's relations to the West is a lack of cultural understanding and horrible foreign policies regarding the region. As for groups like Al Qaeda I believe strongly that this type of violent group is rooted within the Islamic faith. The Quran is full of violence for example Mohamed (spelling?) was a warrior, the whole damn book praises the wars this man fought in the name of the almighty space daddy 'Allah'. the book mentions other warriors as well but he's the main guy. Christians are really no better and both sides of the argument in regards to religious beliefs view what is going on today as a war of civilizations. In reality both religions have a lot in common in regards to violent histories I just feel that the people in the ME embrace their violent histories more then other religions. -
The New Improved Cannabis Poll
Amazing Atheist replied to buffycat's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Decriminalization means that it no longer is a crime to use or possess small amounts. The loop hole here is that it is still illegal for legit private enterprise to grow or distribute. This results in the same people controlling the market as they do no while it is completely illegal. In simple terms decriminalization of the plant only becomes not criminal for the users but remains illegal to produce and sell. Users of course who get caught would be getting fines instead of criminal records. Cannabis is a 7 billion dollar a year industry currently controlled mostly by criminal organizations. If it were decriminalized today the industry would not change at all and in return supplying the black market with profits. -

Amazing Atheist replied to Topaz's topic in The Rest of the World
Why not even nations like China for example have 'world' trade centers and central hubs connected directly to other international banks. Knowing something about how economies work etc. It is clear to me that whoever controls the currencies and big banks etc can control any nation connected to them. -
Crisis feared as US water supplies dry up
Amazing Atheist replied to margrace's topic in Canada / United States Relations
No anyone who doesn't believe global warming is stupid and don't understand the science involved to reach that conclusion. I once questioned the validity of man made global warming until I went over some of the data that has been presented and it is scary. This is the biggest challenge for humanity to overcome and more of a threat to our existence as a species then a nuclear war. The water shortage in Georgia etc is a direct result of abusing natural resources and should be an example of what happens when you take something for granted. -
