An opinion shared by just about no one who follows American politics. How corrupt and dysfunctional does a system have to become before people realize that it just doesn't work? The United States is the last place we should be looking to for ideas on politics. The system that we have is the right one, although in my opinions we seriously have to undo changes that have resulted due to creeping republicanism. Most importantly, we have to start appointing GGs who are suited for the role.

Yes, I've seen that, and the earlier report which I believe was the earliest news coverage of the incident. I never heard that there was FIFTEEN assailants.

I understand the general point you're making, but the way you do it is a little over the top... -

Maybe it's not written as clearly as it could, but 'anything written by "whitey" that appears to be to their benefit is etched in stone' is intended to mean that Six Nations always considers the writing in treaties to be "etched in stone" if it's to their benefit, but if it turns out "whitey" comes out better, then the treaty is always invalid somehow. -

Okay, did you even think before you typed that? The 600,000 people who vote for the Green Party are not exactly a "small segment of society". It's a significant number, no matter how one looks at it. I'm not sure how giving the party fair representation would "thwart the opinions of the majority" since it would only have in a PR system about 12 seats. The party would, moreover, be part of the majority since 65% of Canadians didn't vote for the Conservatives. Let's not forget that the FPTP system usually allows for the minority to rule the majority. -
Was this the guy who wouldn't shake McGuinty's hand? I totally forgot about that, actually, but now that you brought it up, having cancer isn't excuse for being a rude asshole. I would have kept on walking, too.

Anyone can start a party with a little bit of money and a few signatures, but there's more to it than that. It requires finding candidates that hold similar beliefs, have political experience, have the inclination to enter the stressful world of public service, raising funds, dealing with all of the small issues that parties have to deal with. Even if they receive over 3% of the vote, that only entitles them to ONE seat. That means that they would be able participate in all of the aspects of parliamentry democracy; participate in debate, raise concerns about issues in one's constituancy, vote, etc. But that's about it. They can't single-handedly legislature, stop the working of government in Ontario, etc. Even if there were a small group of parties with one or two seats, they would probably be so differing in ideology that they'd never vote in a block. It should be kept in mind that in FPTP systems such as in Britain, it is also possible for "single-issue" or so-called fringe parties to get elected. (There is currently a party that was elected simply because people in one constuancy were concerned about their local hospital.) In the end, the primary purpose of MMP is to make the seating arrangement more reflective of the vote, which basically will only have a significant effect on the three main parties. -
He simply looked like a fool today and I think he's basically proven himself to be unsuited for Premier. McGuinty may be a little fruity, but at least he knows what he's doing. Looks like another Liberal majority. Shold be interesting to see how badly the PC implodes.

Thanks. I'm well aware of what parties do. Nonetheless, I still find it interesting.

It's interesting how anything written by "whitey" that appears to be to their benefit is etched in stone, yet if it doesn't then it's just a bunch of biased, racist lies. The fact of the matter is that the Five/Six Nations considered themselves to be a "nation" and entered into agreements as such, and if they made deals or treaties that have turned out not to their advantage, too bad. -

Are you still here? Damn. I'm fully aware of where these organizations are from. You stated that "Warrior Society" is a term that non-Indians use, but here we have Indians using the term "warrior" in reference to themselves. I'm sure you'll just make excuses for why the "Rotiskenhrekehte" are not the same as other "warrior societies" elsewhere, but of course you won't be fooling anyone but yourself. -

Unless legislation is passed restricting the right to vote, hold party memberships to people who are of European extraction, how can things not be "exploited" in some way. There have always been problems. Before immigration of large numbers of visible minorities it was, language, social class, religion that was often used as a means of exploiting parties and votes. The NDP started off as a Christian party that simply wanted to represent dirt poor farmers on the prairies. Now it's a haven for radical feminists, labour radicals, gay rights activists, Communists, etc. These are all things that the Christian founders of the party would find abhorrant. So how did this all come about then? The party lists that would be drawn up would be voted on by members from throughout the province, thus lessening the likelihood of certain factions within the party being able to elevate certain candidates. -

You're still basically saying the opinions of a large segment of the population is not significant. That shouldn't happen in a democracy. Your definition of fringe is based more on wishful thinking. A party that gets a few thousand votes is fringe, a party that gets 600,000 is at the last a minor party. -

Members of the Six Nations obeying the law would avoid conflicts. -
Funny, with you it's always been "whitey" so far; now suddenly there are ethnic groups withing the grand "whitey" race... You never did explain your contradictory belief in "freedom of religion" and the fact that many women in immigrant groups are in situations that most of us would consider religious oppression.

I think "many" kind of misrepresents things somewhat. Just because something is in the news seemingly all the time, doesn't mean that it is prevelent. In fact, the fact that something recieves widespread coverage means that it is relatively uncommon. And then there is media bias; mainstream media is essentially secular humanist, and just loves to focus on things that go wrong in organized Christianity. Also, broadcast news in Canada is largely under the control of one organization. Feel free to check on who makes up it's board. I think there is a difference between denominations, so this is something that can't be generalized about, but ultimately, organized Christianity is something of a problem because it has created hierarchies where there shouldn't be, things that are not talked about in the NT. It's good that there are people who choose to devote themselves to studying and teaching Christianity, but it is no guarentee of salvation. True faith comes only from reading the Gospel, not rituals, ceremonies, observing holidays or going to church on Sunday. If an evil and sinful person teaches that 2 + 2 = 4, is he misguiding anyone? The problem lies in how the evil and sinful person uses the messages in the Bible. People like Jim Jones, for example. First of all, 60 million is an incorrect figure. All these things you mention were being developed prior to the war. It's a complicated argument, and one that I think would be wasted trying to elaborate. Essentially, as I see it, the physical world is corrupt and sinful. Good things born of evil are often no better than good things born of good. If evil creates a drug that allows people to live longer, but during that entire time they choose to continue to live in sin, is that a good thing? Evil creates nuclear power, that nuclear power is later used to create electricity so people can live comfortable, materialistic lives, grow fat and lazy and sit in front of a computer and defend sinners all day long on message boards, is that a good thing? And what about the potential problems that nuclear power can cause; is that a good thing? I don't know, you tell me. As far as I'm concerned, why things are is beyond me, and I have no choice but to accept that this is the way things are; I only have a choice in what I do about it, if I allow the world to suck me in, or rise above it and focus on what's truly important in life.
