  1. I will have to say that I may have spoke too soon when I said that Schrieber would get his extradition withdrawn durin g the inquirey. I think it will play out the same no matter if he is extrdited or not. The German Government has given the Canadian authorities promises that Schrieber will be made available for questioning and testifying, at the needs of the the inquirey. They are even willing to have him brought back for personal testifying if need be. But I would think that testimony via video link will be all that is needed in this and that can easily be done. Schrieber has played his biggest cards to try and get his extradition lifted, and it look like he may well fail to get this done. That means he will need to be prepared to his pwn case in Germany, where he will not be so willing to talk about bribes and underhanded money etc.. This will be very interesting, as the more he lets out of the bag about things here in Canada, the stronger the case Germany will have against him. I guess he is used to the high pressure tactics used by goverments, more then I am, but I would have to say that he will be very forgetful about things once he is in Germany's hands. I think Harper did the right thing by calling the inquirey, but I only hope that the scope of it is narrowed to the points that we have found new and maybe that way we will have a limited cost for this. Mulroney will want to use this as his stage to change peoples ninds about him and if left to have free rein, he will make it a costly inquirey, and that too is not something I would want. But since the opposition asked for this and got it pretty much as soon as they asked for it, I would think much of the blame for this will lie with the opposition Liberals. They just can not do anything right it seems.
  2. The battle begins and it looks like this time Muroney will take the agressive role in all things, which is fine, as the voters would rather see Mulroney get his payoffs this time from those in the Liberal party that have pushed these issues without knowing anything about them. Watch all of them now stick to only stirring shit when they are in the HoC where they are protected from libel laws. It is going to be very interesting in the times ahead.
  3. Of course the government will keep Schrieber here and not extradite him until the inquirey is over. You have already seen Schrieber talking his way thru a lot of what he said, first by taking any and all heat off of Harper, by also saying that it is more then possible that Harper did not see the letter he sent, as he also sent the same letter to all party leaders at the same time and none of them have said anything about it either until just now. That kind od tells you just where and how all this is going to work out does it not? Before this is over we will find that the money was for a pasta factory and what ever, and really had nothing to do with Airbus etc. The silly games played by the man who like to remain behind the scenes and pull strings. The trouble is the Liberals jumped on this so fast that they now will have to back paddle real fast, to not get caught in the currents and go over the falls. But I guess Dion preferrs it to having to eat everyones crap. This guy just has no credibility in anything any more, and I am surprised he still has not resigned yet.
  4. This survey was another great waste of time and money I suppose. Hell if our politics were born in to us then how do you get all those undecided people? Were they all from undecided families Just another wast of bandwidth.
  5. Myata you are only making more amd more people disagree with you, because you keep saying things that are not true. I gave up trying to explain to you long ago. I only hope that you one day choose to live our country as your view of us is not something I would want to live among. I think you should go to Switzerland and do your draft time and be reqiuired to always have a rifle and bullets in your place of residence at all times. The Swiss are very friendly people, but they also have a very well equipped army and also very person of age is considered a swiss soldier in times of trouble. Maybe if you go to see where and exactly what has really gone on in the past wars, you would feel a lot different today about knowing when to stand up and fight.
  6. You keep saying this but we all have seen is all they need is 7 provinces to do it. Only the Liberals are fapping theing gums saying differently, and they are wrong as usual. Just because you repaet it over and over does not make it right, and as you keep saying that the opposing privnces can take it to the SCC. Of course they can, and just also is a fact that the SCC can refuse to hear them. I can take a parking ticket to the SCC if I had the wil and the money. It does not mean I would get my day or win my case. It really does not matter whethere they accept the changes or not, but the fact is they do not need all provinces to agree, and yes I would imagine that they will fight to no end to try and get more and more power, but that pie is only so large, and if they can not agree on how to divide things up, they can all be given the same number, therfore reducing the power so theyb are all equall, and then work from there. ( is that the Liberals choking on their food ) Again saying that a constitutional challenge may follow, you never quit but again it is wrong, wrong, wrong wrong and it is wrong.
  7. Are you kidding? Let me get this straight, the opposition howled that they wanted a public inquirey, and they were ready to take the government to task on this and now they say that it is cronism to gotten what they requested. The time line was a little short but given the circumstances and the options that Harper would have had, I do not see anything wrong with the decision at all. Once these things have all played out the natural course of things was the inquirey.
  8. I am getting really tired of all this stuff, but since I was the one who said that the majority of tax court cases are lost. I will wade in on this from my own experience. When Rev Can comes and asks you to prove certain things, it is because they have the power where the reverse onus of most of our legal system is you are innocent until proven guilty. They will as they did in my case take every penny that ever went from any of my 3 bank accounts and say they all were income and denied every expense that I ever made. It was now up to me to show that much of this was transfers from one bank to another etc. If there were any money added to it or deducted from it in any way, it was then said to be new and was income. All expenses were denied and even my accountants fees were questioned and they ask for item by item charges for everythignthe accountant ever did for me. In other words I was guilty and had to prove myself inncent. They started out claiming millions in unclaimed income, and after the first of 4.5 years we got them down to $500,000.00 and over the next 3.5 years again down to $220,000.00. My legal fees were over $60,000.00 and I did not have any assets left to be attached, so just before going into court, I would have had to pay another $20,000.00 to the lawyers and even if I won everything I would not even get my attorney costs back. So I did what I can only assume they were trying to do in the first place and that was to bankrupt me. So since I was already retired and on an insurance pension that they can not touch, that was my way out, to put an end to it. Yes it was not in any way ever a criminal thing, but rather a request by the RCMP to Rev Can made 5years earlier. One of my friends is the IT manager at Rev Can and he had kept a copy of the request for me in a safe place. The problem being to sue the RCMP for doing this illegal act costs way more then most could ever hope to get in return. So yes they get away with it. But one day maybe it will be made a lot easier to get my justice. So by the very fact that they started looking for over 2.5 million and in the end we were arguing over $220,000.00 and I had reciepts and letters testifying to these as being expenses, etc.. Alos thye had narrowed the scope of their audit down to just 2 years from 5 years, also because they knew they could not win them. That to me is winning, yet if you look at the stats it would be called a loss. When it comes to the Taxation and the courts for it, you are guilty until proven innocent and when you win they willk re-imbrse your cost etc but no legal fees and the other huge costs associated with these cases. Even when you win you lose. I hold the RCMP responsible for this and the REV Can special investigations also responsible. If they all died horribly painful deaths, I would celebrate long and hard. No one should ever be made to go thru that kind of thing, and if ever there would be a reason for growing domestic terrorism this kind of thing could easily be the point of ignition. I am or at least was a pretty reasonable guy when all things are considered, but I will never forget exactly what the goverment had allowed to be done to me and also many others. I am surprised that no one has not broken down and gone on a rampage in the offices of these agencies. But I guess time will probably make that come true, some where down the line. So do not ever believe that tax laws are in any way the same as criminal law. You are guilty until proven innocent and remember they have a little program called Rappi or the like, that will pull up every purchase or money transfer you ever made no matter where in the world. They told me on a day by day basis what I ate and where I ate it in Europe for the 30 days I was there. I now try never to use my credit cards or atm at all, as this will all be turned against you when they do an audit. The hate when you pay cash, becuse they can not track that yet.
  9. People just do not understand th real reasons behind all of this and I do not like them but I can see them. Mulroney and Schrieber have been planing this all along, and the reason for it is because the federal immigration was about to pull the plug and extradite Schrieber back to Germany. Mulroney is a friend to Schrieber even if he denies it, and I think that all this was setup and choreographed by the both of them to force Harper's hand and have the extradition of Schrieber put off. Mulroney probably tried to influence Harper earlier on things and Harper I would believe wanted no part in it and probably quickly stone walled any further attempts. So their try to setup the letter to the PMO etc.. Knowing that anything to do with Mulroney and airbus was a dead issue and therefore dead ended in the lower PMO. But this then allowed the case made by Schrieber that he send this months ago, and this then makes Harper call for an indenpdent advisor. In the mean time Mulroney turns the heat up so that he wants an immediate public inquirey. He and Schrieber both now know that the extradition of Schrieber will probably not go any where until this inquirey has been had and all witnesses have had their say. In the end it is all going to be some benign issue where Mulroney can claim he is forever cleared, and he has then helped his friend Schrieber stay in Canada longer. It all has to come to a head before the extraditon court this week. That is why it was fast tracked with tidbits everyday to keep the news on this and the public cry for an inquirey. I personally think that Harper was lead into this and he will not be forgiving Mulroney for quite some time. This is one time I think harper was out gunned in setting up a series of things to get what he wanted in the end. That is going to make him even more controlling in his methods. But either way it will look good for him, as he will be seen as the one who called the inquirey, whether successful or not.
  10. Are you trying to sound stupid? The government does not have to debate any policy changes at all. The government has all the power it needs to make those changes when it was elected. Just because the liberals are pouting that "they do not tell us about this or debate it" is just whining because they lost all the power they were used to having, and rightfully so. Just look at the pathetic arguments you get from that side. Why would Harper debate policy with the opposition, he does not have to and the liberals never did when in power, so it is just sooo sad that they not cry and whine that they have no input any more. If they want input call the election tomorrow. But we know you will ot do that because you are in such pathetic shape when it comes to a political party, that there is nothing you will not stomach just so you do not have to face the voters.
  11. Thes painting s and portraits are from all over Canada, and while they have all been purchased by the government, there are so many that it could fill 10 museums. As with any government assets it deserves to be distributed to the masses for all to enjoy and not hoarded by a central gallery in Ottawa only. These have been locked away in storage for the last two decades and no one got to see them other then a few during special tours. They need to be seen in galleries from coast to coast. Not held in Ottawa.
  12. The Liberal keep trying to say that reform can not be with just 7 provinces support, bu that is the way it reads in the laws and rules. The terms can limited without much problems and again the Liberals will howl but are really toothless. I do not even think that the SCC would hear the case on charter grounds, as it really is stretching the Charter to include this, and not all things need the SCC ruling to be valid. I personally think that we should get on with senate reform right away, as I would like it to be an issue in any coming election, that would come along. Harper and the CPC can handle a multi-issue platform with ease, where the Dion liberals struggle with finding one issue that has any grip with the voters. Hell they can not even make child poverty fly, as an issue, and you have to be pretty bad for that to happen.
  13. It is very evident that this guy was incompetent and yes he should have to bear a large part of the blame. But he also worked in the capacity of the government, that also should have had precautions in place to control things long before they went on for so many years. So unfortunately yes that will mean that we the public will be on the hook for all the payouts in this. I would though say that we should take into account a value say $500.000.00 per every year the person was jailed and $100,000.00 for every year they lived outside of jail. Maybe that would be make things better and I would rather it be offered without them seeking the damages we all know thay deserve. As for Smith goes, what would be an appropriate sentece for him and what punishment would be suitable. He should be made penniless and yes I think he needs to atone for his deeds. We would need to learn a lot more as to what drove him in his decisions and then maybe we can then find a sentence fitting his crimes.
  14. Personally I like the idea of these sort of things to be moved away form Ottawa. These are potraits that belong to all Canada, and they should have the chance for all places in Canada to submitt a gallery to display them. Right now they are actually in Gatineau Que, in a controlled conditions storage facility. It would be great if maybe several places were built across the country and the paintings then could be shared so everyone in all areas can have a chance to see them. I like Harpers idea way more then using the old USA embassy as a gallery. We have way too many museums here in the capital, such that most tourists do not get to see them all and rather pick and choose from the long list of what to see. Time for a cultural exchange between the provinces and Ottawa to show and share all of this among the people of Canada.
  15. No it is no the principal of the thing at all. It is just a new policy by a new government. The Liberals were left thinking and yes they allowed this to then be pulled way too far left when it came to expectations of the people of what the government does to protect them. That is it. There are no precidences as it is always a changing policy and will change with each new government, and even while the same government is sitting. Just because you can not see that the government does not want to be your all consuming protector if you break laws in civilized countries with fair court sysytems, and yes they may well make a judgement call on just how far they will go to bat for you, will need to be based on the evidence. That means that Canadian law does not follow you around while you travel, but it can be of assistence when you are treated unfairly by another country. This is a center right government and that means there are going to be limits on how far the government will go in assisting you, after you have stood trial in a fair court system. Get over it, that is how it is going to be. If you do not like that then may I suggest you find a country who will do all the things you want, and go there. We may again see a left thinking government here in Canada, but not for quite a while. So if all the things are so important to you then seeking another place would suit you better. As for me I like it here and yes I am hoping that we take our government a little more right in the future, as it is needed to correct the path to the left that so many years of Liberal rule. Hell we are not even back to the center yet and the cradle to grave types are already screaming.
  16. I warned everyone that they would not like what an inquirey into Mulroney will again finally end up doing. This whole thing was designed to get the government to keep Schrieber from being extraditied, and it looks like it now may work, or it will come to a crashing end this week if extreadition goes ahead for this Friday, as scheduled. This will give Mulroney a chance to redeem himself in the public eyes and that is not somethignhe could ever do anymore with an inquirey into this happening again. I rally do not think much political hay will be made by Dion in this for two reasons, first off he just does not have the ability to do this and secondly he can not make it so he has no choice but to call an election that all the Liberal party know they will get killed over. But all this aside Harper will get the credit for finally having a public inquirey, and if as I said Muroney clears all this up, Harper will also get a boost from that, but if Muroney falls, he can say he still was the one who had this inquirey. When it was known about these money's long agao when the Liberal were in power and they did nothing about this back then. So it will get really interesting but for Harper, if he does give Mulroney his request of a public inquirey, which he most likely will, there is no down side to it for him.
  17. I see that the Liberal supportters are again trying to make something about nothing. This news report has said nothing really. It does not even say who sttled on who or even for what the value would be. It is all very neatly put to bed. If things went the way the Liberal say they did, then there would be some sign of who won what, or settled for what. So like I said not really much of a story here, and not even much whenyou count the recent ones where the CPC decided to not have certain people not run for the party. There is nothing any of them can do as the CPC do have the last say in who runs and who does not. But I will give you some credit on the issue that Harper did say before that he would try to let the local political assmblies be the ones who would make the choices in the majority of cases. It should have come as no surprise though that he overruled the local candidate, after he was already removed from cacus already before. That was not ever going to fly and it would have really shown Harper to be weak if he allowed it. So that one was not even an issue in my own view, as it really was predetermined.
  18. Dion thought he would make a safe bet by choosing something that pulls at the heart strings of most people, and he thought poverty especially that of children was a safe thing to push. What he did not count on was the fact that this same thing has already been pushed many times and there really is not the pressing need for this anymore in Canada. So like usual Dion made a bad choice. I wonder sometime if Dion has any advisors at all guiding him, or is he on his own with out any help at all. Dion will never be able to make any changes to his reputation, until he has a real viable platform that addresses all the issues within the government. He will have to have targets and plans how to meet those targets, and he will need this for many issues not just one or two. He needs to set the basic frame work for the Liberal party and stick to it. It does not sound like Dion is up for that job, but neither is Iggy or anyone of the last candidates for leader. Those who may have the abilities to do this have so far said little, and it would seem that they are still willing to let the Liberal party dangle for a while yet. Dion must see this by now, and if he had any loyalty to the Liberal party he would just resign and let some one else take over.
  19. It is getting foolish for people to try and defend the issue of no death penalty, when yes there are many such cases where the use of deadly force is allowed in law. Those with bledding hearts can sputter all they want, but if a large person is coming at them with a knife and says he is going to kill you, and you have a guns with in your grasp, you will pick it up and fire it, and you will probably aim for the head, just to make sure he is stopped. Or if a burglar is breaking into your house and threatening to kill your family, with a weapon, you would do what ever you could to kill this guy before he can carry out any of the things he says he will do. A police officer can shot dead anyone who has a weapon and points it at anyone near by. If a person who has a black belt, has a Karate match where one of the oppoents dies, it will not be a muder offence, and yes he will get let go free of any crime. The lists can go on and on. So we say that we do not have the death penalty but only in the courts and only when circumstances allow us not to use it. But we do have death penalties in much of our every day lives, and circumstances just need to be pressing and immediate danger of death, or eminent death. That will never change and that is what sticks in the craw of those people who say "any taking of life is wrong, ni matter what". We all know them and we hear then all the time protesting this or that. But if their lives were ever threatened, they would be the first to say that the police should shoot who ever is threatening their life. It is all in the perspective, and that is how it should be.
  20. Yeah I heard of it and yes my parents lived through it. What is happening now while it will not be like the depression with soup kitchens feeding the nation, it will be worse in most respects. The social network of todays countries make it so the worst family affects of such things are not so devastating. But yes you got the right idea of how bad it will be. What hapened to the CDN was something that in part is what will happen to the USA, and yes we survived and yes again so will the USA. It just will not be as strong and will never be seen as a world dominating nation ever again, after things take the USA economy to task. As I said earlier the people in the USA will have to get used to $4.00 / gallon gas, very high prices for food and exceptionally high prices for everything they have to import, which is a very very large number of things. Here in Canada when things looked bad for our dollar, the CDN was not doing so bad against the Euro, and the USD was almost 2.5 times what the euro was. So yes we here in Canada had import options to keep prices down. We got a lot of our winter vegetables from Brazil and Argentina, at very good prices. Today all those places have made vast gains in their currencies, so there no longer can hep cushion the affects. The sad part is that while the worlds currencies are all gaining on the USD, the USD is also dropping against these and it is like getting hit twice as hard. The fact that you have countries dumping the USD for the Euro, should tell you that this is no flash in the pan things and it is very long term. Otherwise they would not exchange them for short term values. Those who want to be stubborn can sit and wait for the times to turn, but that will be a very long time in coming. As you said our dollar played around moving up and down for 30 years And for at least half of that time it was very low. Well the USD is falling much faster then the CDN ever did and it will probably take longer to grow back up. So 25 years can be a long time to wait to see investments in USD pay off. Non of what I said is hocaust pocus, and if people look and follow the money markets and those who speak for the international funds, and you will see that all of what I am saying is there and in the open. I have only brought together things so they follow what the banking industry have already said would happen. I would assume they used mush the same data for their thinking. The USD can slow things down a bit, but I do not think Bush has any plans to do so, as it will all hurt his war efforts, and he would let all the USA go down before he does that. Just my opinion, and those of a many others might I say. I said I am not a financial genius, and I said where I get my info from. it all makes sense to me and that is why I have chosen to believe it. I have also said why this time it will be much harder to handle a failling currency then it was before. I am open for any arguments that would show it to be otherwise. As you said let the chips fall as they may, but I wonder if the USA government can not reel in some of Bush's policies that are hurting their cause and also making the rest of the world not worry about kicking the USD when it is down. I would like to see some thing, that would slow this down and even make it lessen the damage it will cause. But I just do not see that white horse on the horizon.
  21. I must admit that I am not a worldly financial genius. But where I do get my advice and news from is my brother who was just until recently a retired CEO of a major Canadian Bank, where these and other bank CEO from both Canada and the USA meet often as much as once a month, to discuss things in general. What I have been told here are the quick versions that have been dumbed down for me by my brother. Now, are they written in stone? No, these are just what the banks have decided will happen and they then make their long term plans based on this. Would I bet against them being wrong? the answer is no, as most will have already seen the banks seem to always make money even when things go bad for countries. Just so I make myself clear, the USA is in trouble like it has never seen before. If they do not soon take better issues of things they will be deeper in trouble for decades of time. Bush has no real plan and will ride out his last year in office still being the way he has always been. The high CDN will be for well over two years, and is not a flash in the pan as some have said. It will continue to climb for all of 2008. The USD therefore will be down, and if you are already being paid in USD and in the USA, it will not be seen much for now, but in the next couple of months you will see what I do not want, but will happen, and that is instead of Canadian prices going down the USA prices will be going up to meet and even surpass the Canadian prices. Shortly the people in the US will see everything climb on a daily rise and fall type basis, and it will always seem that it rises more then it falls. Get used to it as it is coming. I will say that it will be obvious by early spring. Remember I said that, and also that for the most part no one has said much about this before. Then just remember it is not me who is a genius predictor, but it is just where I get my info from that are very wise in these things.
  22. Where have you ever seen such a case? There has to be a level of where we question stupid argument, and you have just reached that with this example. If you can not discuss things without going really foolish then you lost the argument long ago. Again you are using hyperbola to try and make a point, and it is just wrong in all you are saying. These two women were the supposed main suspect in the murders according to the Mexican police. They were questioned and no charges were ever put on them and still to this day no charges have ever been filed. But you forget to say that because it does not fit with the lies you will use to make your point. This then makes everything you could ever say on this, to be questions. You will lie to make a point or misuse the facts to as well. Not what I would call a good way to win over people. The government is not abandoning anything. They are saying that they will on a case by case reviewing make better time and issues with the foreign governments. This will mean that the foreign governments will know this is nota knee jerk reaction and then also pay more attention to the request, as it will have had some level of scrutiny to make sure it is not about parking tickets etc. which is really a waste of time on both sides. It is ovbvious that you want the government to look after you from cradle to grave and to tell you that all is well, even in foreign lands when you know that is not so. The Canadian people voted out that type of government in the last election, because they were going way too far to the left, we now have a right of center government, that is there because the voters wanted to see things pulled back towards center. Hence your arguing that it is wrong, when it is what most people want. It is also what we will see happening probably for the next several governments.
  23. It is not me who gets to say what you did or did not is a banning offence, and yes while I feel strongly about multiple threads, it is more because it splits the disscussion and therefore is not to anyones benefit. I would assume that you did so by being inexperienced, and I am sure the mods who will sooner or later catch you for this, will give you a warning etc.. As I said I was once given warnings as well. But just make sure you follow the rules and do not quesyion too much when you are caught, and you will probably never get banned or have a mod take issue. As for harm done, it is one of wasteful bandwidth, and it also shows grandstanding on making every point a thread. Give it time and you will have all this down and be able to may be guide the next person who makes te same mistake. We all do try to help in these things, as the mods can not always be here to change it, but yes they will catch it even if no one says anything about it. I hope you understand that while we have many differenet opinions and we sometimes get heated in our expressions, we still are a community where we all help each other no matter what the disscussions may show.
  24. Well as I said a month ago when JD was amking all the issues of the CPC never moving higher in the polls, I gues I was right, the polls would soon be going well into majority area. He laughed at my 46-48 % prediction, but with Dion on his run to submarine the liberals, that is not such a far fetched number now is it. We are only 5% from being dead center of it, and things look like upwards is where things will go. But I must admit that I said before that I do not put much faith in what polls show. I did not before and I really do not now. I find them to be a floating indicator of about 40% of what the people are thinking. The other 60% will always be the dark horse in all things of politics. Give the people some haert wrenching issue and we will have high voter turn out, but have a lackluster campaigne and we will have very low turn outs. I think the high turn outs will benefit the CPC and the low turn out the Liberals.
  25. It was very obvious that you were openignnew threads when the subjects were already able to be covered in existing threads. You were warned and ignored, so I would imagine that the mods did finally make their point with you. I also would suggest you not argue that point as that again would be you flaunting rules because they are not in your way of thinking. That is another no no. I have no problem in letting you have a say, but do so in the active threads and remember that not ever small point deserves a seperate thread. I was once warned about doing this before as well, but I soon learned to live within the rules as they are, and not what I think they should be. I really do not think you are going to like waht is going to happen in this. Yes I think Mulroney is crooked, but we already learned that he can bite back at us. The same thing is going to happen here as Schieber only used this as a way to delay his extradition and that is not going to work, so now his repeating his accusations will cost him more in his trials in Germany and he will soon deny everything. That is again then going to make it a very weak case against Mulroney, and he may well again get a bonus from the government for damaging his reputation. But now that this has set up the power for Harper to call inquiries on past leaders, both Chretien and Martin are open season and a lot more dirt can be made at the whim of Harper. So look for reports from those inquiries to be had near possible election calls, and there is nothing the Liberals can say to not sound like hypocrits to try and stop this. Dumb move again by the Dion Liberals.
