  1. Well I can't help it when things like this apply to the man. I'm just pointing out the obvious.
  2. Obviously you didn't have grandparents like I did that, who along with their European brethren did indeed build up this country. I think the inference was to original immigrants who just wanted a free country to come to, to work hard, and to be left alone. My grandfolks never spoke Norwegian again once they arrived.
  3. Good find, but the problem is the right wing will always label Historians that don't agree with their agendas as left wing, thereby voiding most intelligent PhD Historians.
  4. I'm not going to search for every single poll, but by all means post your little ditty. It's only be outweighed by the vast majority of major pollers.
  5. I think it's time to inject a little levity into this most serious section. If I'm outta line the mods will boot this. The War on Terrorism A public school teacher was arrested this morning at John F. Kennedy International Airport as he attempted to board a flight while in possession of a ruler, a protractor, a set square, a slide rule and a calculator. At a morning press conference, Attorney General Michael B. Mukasey said he believes the man is a member of the notorious Al-gebra movement. He did not identify the man, who has been charged by the FBI with carrying weapons of math instruction. "Al-gebra is a problem for us," Mukasey said. "They desire solutions by means and extremes, and sometimes go off on tangents in a search of absolute value. They use secret code names like 'x' and 'y' and refer to themselves as 'unknowns', but we have determined they belong to a common denominator of the axis of medieval with coordinates in every country. As the Greek philanderer Isos Celes used to say, 'There are 3 sides to every triangle'." When asked to comment on the arrest, President Bush said, "If God had wanted us to have better weapons of math instruction, He would have given us more fingers and toes." White House aides told reporters they could not recall a more intelligent or profound statement by the President
  6. I guess you missed my post where I cited 6 other polls putting Bush way down near the bottom. At any rate, these are your people answering the polls. I tend to go with what the bulk of your nation's opinions of your head honcho.
  7. Oh that pesky interpretation bug. I really think both quotes of mine above could be correct. Canada was a new sovereign nation, but still had the Queen on our money and a Governor General. We pledged allegiance to the Queen in school. I believe there was an expectation that Canada would enter the war, but under a British umbrella. And that's precisely what happened. The word I should have used was expectation, not obligation.
  8. Interesting, and would make wikipedia a little embarrassed. "At the beginning of the war, Canada was the oldest Dominion in the British Commonwealth. As a nation, it was, for the most part, reluctant to return to war. Nonetheless, Canadians entered the Second World War united with Great Britain, through Commonwealth asociation" and this from links north "Canadian sovereignty thus had been achieved by a long process of peaceful constitutional evolution. This was vividly demonstrated by the independent decision of its Parliament that Canada enter World War II at the side of Britain, which it did within a week of the outbreak of hostilities in September 1939."
  9. Borg, if you are right-leaning then I'm sure you are an exception. My intent was to exclude the army itself as they have a vested interest.
  10. You seem to forget that Canada was a self-governing Dominion under the British Crown, and as such we had obligations as a member of the Commonweath.
  11. One last thing. We can argue all day about in context, out of context, but that's a non-negotiable item for you and me. If you only had the balls to look at some of the clips I provided a link for, you might realize whatever one else knows: your boy(s) in the big house are not very well like by your people, consistently. Their actions have created untold misery for the families of those innocent young soldiers the prez put on the front line. All that money he spent on the Iraq fiasco could have maybe helped some of the 40 million+ who don't have any health care. But no, the USA always needs an enemy to make themselves feel superior to anyone else. Well guess what, you've created more countries that despise Americans and the present Government. The end.
  12. I had you pegged from day one BC, not hard with a handle like yours. You like to demean those who disagree with you, like the ugly American you say you are. Go ahead and post to your heart's content. I certainly have better things to do with my time. A further discourse with you will obviously be useless. I presented a solid case that showed what Bush said could also be interpreted as I described. As an English major, I stand by my elucidation and leave you to bully those who dare challenge your "opinions."
  13. You seem to have an adverse and sarcastic opinion everytime some shows your mentors in a negative light, even when the presentation is factual. You say you don't want to enter into the Federal Politics section but you have no problem running down our previous administrations in other sections. Seems to me while you are welcomed here, as a guest, you are probably making more enemies than friends with your attitude. But yeah, you're right, free speech has to allow for such acerbity.
  14. Please keep in mind this is a CANADIAN forum. To imply that Canadian comments in the U.S. politics section are irrelevant is elitism. I think you have a problem in general with Canadians who disagree with you, and that's too bad. But you will not stop me from posting in this section because you think my comments are meaningless. We call it freedom of speech here, and all opinons/comments (outside of personal attacks and other objectional material) are encouraged and welcomed.
  15. So in a discussion of America politics you have to be a U.S. citizen to have any merit? That's elitism. I gotta wonder why you post so much on a Canadian forum anyway. Been kicked out of of U.S. ones?
  16. Seems to me you're assuming his target audience. Where did he say "I think it is unacceptable.." So let me put it to you. You seem to think his remarks were acceptable. Do you care that you top guy is telling you what to think or what not to think? If you do, that's dangerous territory.
  17. So I guess the surged failed. And oh, Bush recently said: "violence in Iraq yielded a very positive moment in the development of a sovereign nation that is willing to take on elements that believe they are beyond the law."link So now violence in Iraq is interpreted as a postive moment. Man, this guy has a real problem expressing himself.
  18. I have a problem with the President telling us what to think and what not to think.
  19. Topaz, the right is only going to trot out the old chestnut about other professions and their suicide rates. They simply don't care about the soldiers mental heath. Don't think you can chink that armor.
  20. “It's unacceptable to think," Bush said back in 2006. With that background look at some of these video clips:
  21. Did you read the whole article BC? If you did I'm surprised you never mentioned the results of polls conducted by the following:C-Span, ABC, Rasmassen Report, Washington College, Quanipiac University, and USA today/Gallup. Actually, he has consistenly been near the bottom for the bulk of his presidency.
