They are all for real. Some are so utterly ridiculous that you can't help laughing. Go read a few at ebolamonkeyman...they are friggin' hilarious!

Meaningless, Uninformative Thread Titles
ScottSA replied to August1991's topic in Support and Questions
Scott, give it a break.First, at thsi very moment, I want to dispute one of your claims and I don't know where to find your post. (It's a religious thread about Islam. Your ridiculous thread titles make it difficult to find. I'm still looking.) Second, imagine curious lurkers faced with a panoply of threads (or Google searchers incorrectly directed). How would they know where to click? Between completely random diarrhea and anal retentive precision, surely we can have a compromise. When you open the hood of a Mercedes, you usually don't find a Hyundai motor. You shouldn't get in the habit of disputing my claims. It's easier to don a hair shirt and flagellate yourself on a rockstrewn pilgrimage to the Holy Land, since it involves a great deal less humiliation for you On the basis of that fact, my mystical hard to find ninja threads are actually a boon to you! Perhaps you can't find my thread because Charles ran away with it and hid it behind another thread? -
Floods are judgment on society, say bishops
ScottSA replied to cybercoma's topic in Moral & Ethical Issues
http://comment.independent.co.uk/columnist...icle2730465.eceIs it a fair assessment to say this bishop justifying the death of innocent people is the same thinking as a suicide bomber goes through when they believe they're acting as a tool of God? What idiotic relativism. Is this guy trying to write comedy? -
You don't consider the following atheistic evangelicalism?

I hate it when people invoke Occam's razor and then mis-spell it. It just looks so...I don't know...illiterate.

Kosovo-why so important to the US? geopolitically speaking
ScottSA replied to kuzadd's topic in The Rest of the World
Don't be an idiot. Before and during the war there were supposed to be 100,000 - 200,000 civilians allegedly killed and planted in "mass graves." Almost a decade later, they have managed to uncover less than 1000, most of who turned out to be combatants buried in battlefield graves. Read Momo's article again, slowly, aware that there are a few holes in it. Do you see the words "civilian" anywhere in connection with the mass graves? How come no one talked about these piles of bodies behind every bush that we were supposed to find as soon as the war ended? What happened? 800 is about the harvest from a good week of Muslim atrocities in Iraq, or two weeks in Indonesia, but I didn't see Clinton bombing the Musselman, did you? Here's what we were all told to expect: Link Morris' link tells you what we found. Really, read up on things before you spout off. -
Let us suppose, for the sake of argument, that every person living in poverty in Canada (however you want to define poverty) is a lazy, no-good, so-and-so whose circumstances are indeed due to their "poor life choices." Whether we like it or not, if the present state of affairs is not addressed, then shelters will continue to proliferate and be used to temporarily house an increasing number of homeless people. These shelters will be funded by our tax dollars, either directly from government or indirectly through subsidies to and exemptions for charitable organizations - even in Dickens' time, there were the poor houses. In a recent report (PDF, 2.6 MB), the author Gordon Laird cites government numbers showing a cost of up to $6 billion a year to service a core homeless population of 150,000. That cost includes health care, criminal justice, social services and emergency shelter costs. Laird also cites studies demonstrating that providing low-cost housing for this core group would reduce the cost to taxpayers considerably. Isn't that one of the bottom lines for so-cons? That less of tax dollars be spent? NB: I don't accept the report in its entirety. For example, it's customary for researchers, mortgage lenders and landlords to use 30% for the maximum amount of household income that should be applied to housing. While 30% makes sense to me for the lowest decile of household income, it seems too low for higher incomes. This is one case, where I think a relative measure should be used. Did you know that Japan cut its welfare rolls in half by adding stringent guidlines to welfare? And did it without even one person starving? Your solution of making poverty comfortable simply draws more people into the lifestyle. Your assumption that not providing more beds for homeless people is going to lead to more homeless people makes no more sense than your implicit assumption that providing more beds will lessen the demand for them. Why does the left have such a hard time with basic economic principles?

I never once compared the two. Christianity doesn't get a free ride because Islam is worse. You sound like someone who justifies beating his wife because afterall.... it could be worse. And you sound like someone looking at picture books about dinosaurs to remove your concerns about the herd of elephants stampeding toward you. Again, WTF?

Because they're not unique and special snowflakes. We're all human animals. But you just said that belief in the afterlife takes that joy away. Surely you're not just making up grand sweeping pronouncements and tossing them about?

Multiple concurrent discussions will be merged
ScottSA replied to ScottSA's topic in Support and Questions
Do you not recognize your own posts in this thread? I wasn't aware that we are expected to begin at the beginning of each thread each time we opened it to make sure other threads haven't been added to it, or that we need to search through threads with different titles to see if ours has been merged with it. I was also unaware that a post with a title about a certain aspect of Kosovo (Why so important to the US?) should be invaded with a post about another aspect entirely (Haven for terrorists). Posters complain all the time about being "off topic" when that kind of thing happens. Can we expect to see all threads about, say...Islam...condensed into one thread too? Perhaps all religions should be collapsed into one topic? In fact, it's probably possible to collapse the entire forum into one or two encompassing threads! Maybe even one! -

Do you mean this one? http://www.mapleleafweb.com/forums//index.php?showtopic=9239 No. Let me help: Deleted: to strike out or remove (something written or printed); cancel; erase; expunge. One would hardly be able to find a thread that has been struck out or removed, would one? No but I thought like so often with your pronoucements you were in error. Perhaps because there is already a Kosovo thread another is redundant? Unless of course it's the semi coherent musings of some danish xenophobe then all right, let the superfluous threads multiply Sorry you were wrong. I didn't mean to force you into a tizzy. I know for a fact that you don't like this practise anymore than I do. -

WTF are you even talking about? Are there crusades going on that only you know about? Are there similar terror bombings and threats of terror bombings around the world by Christians that no one but you know about? I know it's frustrating to be defending something that simply can't be defended, but don't make a total ass of yourself trying...

They matter because you "won the genetic lottery" and have been able to live. Death matters because it is the end of life. Death matters because in order for you to die that means you have lived. Life after death takes away true appreciation for life itself. Then why do religious people find the same or greater joy in the same thing?

May I ask why threads are being deleted for no apparent reason? To wit, a thread entitled "kosovo," in the "Rest of the world" forum, and which had the beginnings of a good discussion, was simply erased with no explanation. Is this a new policy in effect? Is Greg aware of it?

UK Gov boots intelligent design back into 'religious' margins
ScottSA replied to cybercoma's topic in Moral & Ethical Issues
Thank you to geoffrey and even MM for poking holes in the ridiculous strawmen abounding about creationism. Creationism takes many forms, and a number of them are in no way incompatible with evolution. -
"the religion of atheism" -- this is an example of an oxymoron (your education continues!) And yes, atheism (a-theism -- the LACK of theism -- more education for you!) is catching on without a commie leader (eg Stalin) even forcing it down people's throats. People are abandoning religion in droves. They are realizing how religion has utterly bastardized the concept of "god" and are turning away from it. And this is a very good thing for humanity. But I am not greedy, I will be happy once Islam is gone because the rest are sure to follow. So Scotty, believe it or not we are on the same page -- we both want to rid the world of crazy religions. Your information is completely wrong. So completely wrong in fact, that it's laughable. People may be abandoning supermarket religion in the 1-5% or whatever percent of the population that lives in the west, but to imagine that religion is being abandoned across the globe is just unsupported wishful thinking on your part. And you still don't seem to be able to grasp a couple things: first, the difference between spirituality (which people even in the west are not abandoning) and religion, and second, the fact that your evangelical faith in atheism is for all intents and purposes itself a religion.

It's not clear to me why the thread entitled "Kosovo" was erased, so I spose I have to repost the same thing here as was on the erased thread. I do hope that Greg hasn't created a monster in temporaly giving the keys to someone else. -
Canada's First Chinese Canadian Political Party
ScottSA replied to scribblet's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
The Sex Party doesn't sound very inclusive. What about the virgins? Maybe someone should start a "Virgin Party of B.C."? I think they have one already... They're called Young Conservatives...... I didn't find the young ladies in that party to be particularly virginal when I was there...quite the contrary. The young NDP, on the other hand, hated men, so that didn't make for loose trousers...thank God...have you ever seen a young NDP woman? Yuck! I used to date the daughter of a senior Trudea cabinet minister....so I only have her eye witness accounts of crashing young conservative parties Well, you know why I have eyewitness accounts of them... -
