  1. And how many people who knew this disturbed individual watched it? I am curious as to the numbers. Hell, I've surely seen hundreds of YouTube videos, though am yet to encounter a single acquaintance. Furthermore, based on the amount of irrelevant stupidity being shown in all this 'user generated content', I tend to take take it all with a grain of salt. But I guess that is part of the appeal. In a world of 6 billion +, it is possible to be seen yet remain anonymous.
  2. But what good is expanding your territory if one knows you will face constant conflict, and thus never be able to adequately rule over the territory one gains. Even with the mightiest of swords, won't help if you have some level of complacency. Xenophobes look inward, Imperialists look outward.
  3. Granted, but with 70,000+ uploads per day, plus the Herculean task of tracking the user if her represents a valid threat would make any investigator shudder.
  4. And the French have la "hexagone". So should we also be weary of nations adopting mathematical or geometrical terms. For the record, the ever oppressive ultra- colonial powers that are Poland and the Czech Republic also employ terms pertaining to concepts of a parental nature. Those damned Czechs. They would enslave the world if they could!
  5. Ah, you mean sending the Haitians envelopes stuffed with cash rather than manning the ground with Bengali Blue Helmets or what have you. Well yes, masochistic tendencies are nothing to write home about but have relatively little to do with the topic at hand.
  6. So the principal reason behind your rational of abolishing the U.N is a lack of explicit gratitude? Deep. Maybe we should campaign for all the Bosnian kids to send Christmas...err...Ramadan.....err. Hanukkah cards to your house. Maybe that would prompt a change of mind, no? Sure the U.N is riddled with problems, corruption, and *yes I will say it* ingratitude, but will its abolition make the state of affairs any better? True, that for the moment, it does little. But little is better than nothing.
  7. If this is the case, than yes, and I hope it comes to fruition. Security, peace & prosperity, however idyllic, are enviable goals, and shared by most. --------------------- As per the meth smoking paranoid visions of some CFR / Alien / Communist / Fascist / Jewish / Evangelical Christian / Illuminati / Skull&Bones / Gay / Muslim / Corporate / Banker / U.N / Free Mason / Bilderberg conspiracy involving 666's imprinted on our foreheads and repeated images of soldiers wearing gas masks and Haz-Mat suits, I say, good luck and good night. A mind is a terrible thing to waste.
  8. This sounds all fine and dandy as an ideal, but how does one 'fix' peoples drug problem in a practicable sense without going bankrupt? In that sense, I would prefer the methadone program, which even wit the high costs of distribution and administrative procedures would still be cheaper (and hopefully more empirically effective) than endless psychological counseling/therapy sessions and the like. luvacuppajoe, were you able to locate a breakdown of the costs, i.e, acquisition, admin, distribution, counselling, etc for the methadone program?
  9. This should of been highlited since it i dead on. This has nothing to do with Islam (maybe except for the propensity to let their sons run wild and do what they will while overbearing on their daughters, which is something I've encountered far too often amongst the Maghreb populations). There is no emotion behind these riots, nor are there any religious beliefs. These kids only desire is to cause sh*t, to instill fear (which they mistakenly believe creates respect) in the society which they wrongfully blame as the source of their ills. Its much easier to simply play the victim card.
  10. Considering the current costs associated with sustaining just one single inmate, me thinks this is not the best route. And while it pains me to be providing a 'fix' to junkies, my overly pragmatic side believes if methadone is indeed in the $30 range for a monthly supply, I think I prefer this option.
  11. It's that time of the year again: http://www.memepasmal.net/media/meteo_france_thumb.jpg
  12. While we are on the topic, would someone dare call a man a "hair bigot" because he prefers brunettes, or a woman a "nose biggot" because she prefers men with smaller noses?
  13. Well made, and often clever, but...... 2 Parents? I thought is was as simple as not consuming more calories than you use. http://www.boreme.com/media/yr2006/gaultier-fat-model.jpg Health reasons aside, I think Gaultier made a valid point on aesthetics by using the above model. Of course, beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but to claim I am a bigot because it is not the most appealing to my eye, well that would make the party claiming to be victim of bigotry be bigots themselves.
  14. Dr. Brzezinski all too often gets a bad rap, apparently responsible for everything from Al-Qaeda to the rise of the Neocons to being the godfather of Russian nationalism. That is far too simplistic a view. He was bent on destroying the Soviet empire, and rightfully initiated policies which sped up it's downfall, but the fact that Russia is facing a rising tide of nationalism is of no surprise. While I have always been skeptical of Russia and its concept of pan-slavic nationalism, I have never seen a culture so proud of its heritage both through thick and especially thin. The humiliation they faced in the Yeltsin years only sped up this nationalism, but the true cause was cultural.
  15. To compound the stupidity of this entire post, are pig headed claims such as: Assertions that the central european nations are just pawns, little more than token offerings to the powers that be. God (non-denominational for you Kuzadd, or else you would be claiming this phrase to be evidence of some massive Christian/Crusader conspiracy) forbid these nations actively sought to join NATO after having endured decades of Soviet tyranny. So much for preaching the right of self determination of smaller nations, or is it only if they oppose western interests. Or my absolute favourite: In name, albeit this time around, the FSB is far more powerful than the KGB could've ever dreamed. *Though I often enjoy American Conservative, they definitely adopt a Paleo-Conservative view in the strictest sense, one which all too often focuses strictly on domestic issues and shuns the complexities of foreign relations. Not that this article is wrong on every account, it just ignores the fact that Russia cannot be viewed nor analyzed via the same means as the U.S*
  16. Dunno. But if Jintao's tough talk of opening up the party to 'popular' (by Chinese, not Occidental standards of course) input becomes a reality, they may just have a crack at averting the unrest which is an even more pressing threat. That, and reevaluating, if not openly floating the Renmnibi to curb food import based inflationary pressures (the trade off being greater discontent amongst the industrial centers) would be a step in the right direction.
  17. No one did. But some fantasies die hard. And uncontrollable urges to blame the U.S on everything from climate change to not having your homework done apparently die harder. Tension ≠War (cold or hot).
  18. Seriously, who cares. Should one avoid the teachings of Plato for fear of being influenced (or converted, judging by some of the nutty fears and insecurities of certain posters). This is the war on teletubbies all over again. Our life here is far too comfortable here if this is a serious point of contention in our society.
  19. So by that standard, only aircraft carrier based planes can carry nukes? Good luck to the lowly B2 pilot landing on a Nimitz class carrier.
  20. Good point. I should of written "legitimizing" in brackets, as there is no doubt that the international order cannot be an identical fascimile of our domestic civil society, and by that, legitimacy simply means having some sort of moral/ideological union amongst states, and this block (a.k.a posse system) would thus form the basis of this authority, even if not inscribed in stone. Authority is not only legitimized by law, but mores, customs and acts as well. In other words, like minded nations must learn to make concessions and get passed this incessant in fighting. Europe, and even many in Canada, must stop this masturbatory anti - Americanism, and certain groups in the U.S must realize the value of having alliances, even if they lack the sticks, they still have quite a collection of carrots and as August clearly pointed out the ability to ostracize subversive groups. There needs to be focus on the bigger picture as there is far more at stake in our world than just our pride. Now if only we could manage to create a 'legitimate' a pro western Kalifah....
  21. One thing, before anyone tries to portray me as pro-bureaucracy authoritarian, I feel the need to re-emphasize the position of the ex - Bagehot, and that is that there is a fine line between too much and too little authority. Neither are an enviable position. Afterall, our present day, civilized society is founded upon the rule of law. Yet without any authority, there is no force to create, nor maintain said laws.
  22. O.K, but can it ever? If such is the case, how to proceed? Unfortunately, I do not live there, nor have I even been there, but gathering from what I've heard, explicit religious practice is making quite the comeback. China is more than just Shenzen, Beijing and Shanghai. Furthermore, when one has 1 billion +, I would imagine exercising strict control is no easy task, especially when faced with local pressure and/or bribery. But seeing as you disagree, is there any information we should know about? I wouldn't call Doha a smashing success, would you? In regards to your point, just because trade has never known such freedom one cannot automatically assume it will continue to do so. Thus the original reason behind GATT/WTO, a desire to establish rules and promote stability in international trade. In fact, I was even going to quote you on this subject (invoking someone else - Trudeau) Dommage. Though God forbid we question our own ideals.
  23. True, although you do accept the fact that some sort of authority is indeed needed? However, on a practical level, which other institution/force could fullfill said role? I for one, do not think this is what the author was necessarily trying to convey. America is still the only nation capable of enforcing, if not legitimizing such an institution, and thus why the emphasis on the current POTUS. Without the U.S on board, there can be no credible, respected international authority.

  25. So the student should set the agenda for the teacher? Personally, I believe that this should be an integral part of the screening process prior to entry into med school. If someone wants to play the role of vigilante and politicize, if not wholly adulterate the art of medicine, all steps should be taken to prevent said person from being offered such an important position. What next, refusal to treat someone of another faith?
