That's funny...I thought I asked Cyber for an answer. PS....the land claims were a result of bleeding heart courts. Not the treaties. Show me in the treaties where the contract was broken. Oh that's right...you can't!!!! I can quote you numerous parts where natives have broken the treaties but you won't hear that stuff with your head in the sand. -

I have looked them up. They are still there and most importantly....I wasn't asking you. Your answers only run in circles and get no where. Cyber made the claim that the contract was broken and I'm asking Cyber to show me where! -

Using the treaties as a reference tell me what part of the contract was broken. I'm only looking at the objective contract and not some story of the intent passed along generations. -

Aboriginal land is 0.2% of Canada. Get real! Canada was built on the development of the 99.8% of the other land. Stop spewing the same BS that has made FN people modern day victims! You help no one by doing this! -

Again you are going in circles. These people have the national and somewhat international spotlight. They can report the claims to the government and should not feel fear as its in the open. I wouldn't feel scared now that its so public. However I would be scared if I knew my story was embellished or if there was more to it...which is why I believe these women aren't coming forward -

Jacee.. We've been through this already. The treaties don't say certain lands...they say ALL lands and rights to those lands surrendered. Reserves were made to keep natives safe but those lands too were to be owned by the crown. Please don't tell me what the treaties say because its not the treaties that have caused any confusion, its the bleeding hearts in the courts. You say that the government has done no accounting of the trust fund. What do you call this audit which clearly outlines the FN trust find? http://www.aadnc-aandc.gc.ca/eng/1321564482345/1321564505320 I guess this is just fictional? Or better yet conspiracy theory? Oh wait...is this irrelevant? Whether its the RCMP or the FN trust fund, you only have allegations and zero facts. -

Teachers have changed from back in the day. They never use to face the threat of legal battles or straight up red tape policy like they do now. I don't feel there is the same respect from parents for teachers either which is partially the reason why teachers aren't the same. -
Teachers Should Be Paid More
Accountability Now replied to socialist's topic in Provincial Politics in Canada
I think that's the point with teachers or any other union job. You don't get the highs or the lows, the good or the bad rather you get a happy medium. In other industries you can make more money but you can also lose your job easier, benefits aren't as good etc. -
Teachers Should Be Paid More
Accountability Now replied to socialist's topic in Provincial Politics in Canada
I disagree. I continue to make career choices all the time. I left the oil and gas industry for a lower revenue stream because I didn't like the lifestyle. Teachers can do the same. I know a number of teachers who left that career to chase other avenues. The reality is that most teachers have great benefits, job security and other lifestyle incentives that keep them in that career. But it's still a choice. -

There is no market rate once you become a teacher. You are bound by the constraints of that system. My idea of fair is based on people choosing the career path and then whining about what it entails. Most professionals go into their careers with money being the incentive...this the reason why they go to school for so long and work the hours they do. If teachers were in it for the money then they wouldn't have picked education. Most make that choice for lifestyle...not money. -

I may be out of date but when I was in university, the faculty of education was one of the easiest ones to get into. Further to that, most teachers actually planned on being something else but then realized they couldn't get a job in their field. As such they took the one year after Ed program that made them a teacher just to have a job. And why not? Summers off, extra holidays, 9-3:30 gig...all sounds good until you get there and realize its work! Bottom line it should be harder for a person to become a teacher if they want the high paying rewards. We pay other professionals (doctors, lawyers, accountants) higher sums because those are challenging programs that demand a lot from prospects. -

Empower senior officials???? The same idiots who are making more than the PM while their own people have nothing? Why the hell would any government do that? You seriously call that constructive?? I read through the article you wrote and the AFN site and neither make concrete claims of what needs to be done. Only more vague claims about honoring treaties. What part of the treaties? We can give them the six beaver pelts and garden hoes that were promised. Come up with a real time solution. Something to bring the FN info today's age! Oh...what imbezzlement of FN trust fund are you talking about? Show me this. -

Ok....I'll say it again. The police reporting option can only go ahead when credible witnesses step forward. Whether it is right or wrong...it is just the way it is. That is the system. Do you want the RCMP to go against the system for this special case? -

Why would the RCMP investigate any further? It would be the exact same if they heard allegations that I was assaulted but I didn't come forward. That's the way the system works. They can't investigate until they have people to talk to instead of the ghosts they're dealing with now. My point about investigation was the investigation that the province is already doing or the one that Human Rights Watch did or possibly what the Feds may do. Yes...these are investigations of policy but what else can they do until people come forward? I'm not saying the RCMP are innocent but without people to come forward I will have no choice but to believe their innocence...and so should you. -

I suggest they continue to do what they are doing now. Investigate and get to the bottom of the allegations and try to improve the system. You make it seem like the whole system is broken. It has some issues to deal with but It continues to be fixed like any other organization, company or working group. -
Alberta has an $3 billion deficit!
Accountability Now replied to Boges's topic in Provincial Politics in Canada
Yup....this I agree on. There will come a day when the resources go away and then what? We need to develop ourselves in other areas either research, technology, manufacturing, etc. Resources are great as the leading industry for now but we need a significant alternative. The problem with Alberta is that Calgary and Edmonton still compete so much for these alternate industries. Both cities want to be the main stage for any company coming to Alberta. In my mind the province should be pushing for the bigger picture. Let Calgary be the white collar city home to corporate headquarters and Edmonton the blue collar city home to manufacturing and gateway to Ft. Mac. Combine the two cities with a high speed train so that larger companies can have their corporate office in Calgary and a manufacturing office in Edmonton. Neither city will ever compete with Toronto, Montreal or Vancouver on their own. So why not combine them and make it possible to compete. That's where the provice needs to step up and sink money into the infrastructure to do this. Such a railline could run from airport to airport allowing the cities to work togehter to attract more international flights. Maybe its a crazy idea and has all sorts of implications. But it seems good on paper. Lol. -

I disagree. They do so only because the bar has been set so low so people don't know better. Most people here are content because we don't have sales tax and taxes are generally lower than other provinces. We look at that and say...hey, they must be doing a decent job. However, the whole time our provincial government is really not practicing fiscal responsibility. Once the profits go and true budgeting is required....then you will see the shortfalls. And trust me....there will be plenty of red neckers here that will voice their opinion. -

Yup! I stated that about five posts already however Jacee is convinced the entire RCMP is corrupt and so is Interpol. So there really is no hope. -

I did paste it. Read the CLIP!!! Its starts with Human Rights Watch - Again....this proves that you are only trying to read what you want. Read the whole thing before you re-post. Its isolated to this area. My point is that the RCMP is a national group. Do you get that yet? -

Your link wasn't working but I think I was able to find the same article. The bottom line is that you are generalizing an entire police force by the poor actions of possiblly a few of their members. Without hesitation I can tell you that police officers are not perfect and our belief that they are perfect is what allows for this stuff to go unnoticed. Assuming these accusations are valid, then the women should have taken it to a higher authority either within the RCMP or government or Human Rights....whatever. From what I understand of the police in my area....the City Police will gladly rat out the RCMP and vice versa. No love loss there. The fact is now we are left trying to put the pieces of the puzzle together to figure this one out. In any event, I still think that you are way off on your opinion of the RCMP. Even that article states this is an isolated incident but of course you didn't comment on that so let me show you. Human Rights Watch - an international organization dedicated to protecting human rights - says the allegations do not prove a "pattern of routine systematic abuse" by police, but are worrisome. "While the testimonies that Human Rights Watch gathered do not establish the prevalence of abuse, they do, together with other studies, raise serious concerns about police practices, police Having said this, you obviously live in a world of conspiracy theories because even "Interpol" is compromised? Seriously....you need to go live in Mexico or a third world country where the police are paid by the cartels and then see what ulterior motives really are. The reality is that 99% of police in this country are average men and women who are trying to do the job to the best of their abilities by serving and protecting. They are not perfect. In certain cases they go too far when trying to restrain people and in other cases they abuse the power they have. They are humans and have the ability to mess up. But I will gladly standby the police organization in this country and be proud to have these organizations to serve us. -

I agree. I still get upset thinking of the Ralph Bucks that flew out of the coffers back in 2006. It was nice getting the $400 but I have to beleive it was much better spent in infrastructure or saving it for the rainy day. Having said that Alberta has yet to be put in a situation where they truly have to be diligent and responsible. Big oil booms always fill the coffers and they get off from any true budgeting. So the Budgeting 101 class that our politicians take all say to ride the wave. This may haunt the province one day but until then they are just enjoying the ride. -

I hear ya. The treaties have given them certain rights and have taken certain rights. Overall they are not equal. Some would argue they have it better, most would say they don't. However the FN are adament to keep the treaty rights which is weird as the treaties were the first and most consitent form of colonizalism in our country. Yet they hold on to the things that oppress them.
